If he ends up 20% as good as Scott Thompson I will be amazed (and happy!).

Two or three good games a year is the next best thing to worthless. Injuries or not.

Hope I get proved wrong this year.

I thought he was our only shining light on Saturday V North. Kicked a sterling goal from outside 50, tackles hard and is a great over-head mark. My only criticism is he fades in and out of games.

He and Davey were the only players who looked like they had the skills required for AFL football. Huge apologies to Jones on that statement because he was and is our most consistent player.

I think yze magic was being sarcastic.

I was aware of that demonsflag. It’s a pity you couldn’t also comprehend my incredible wit.

But even you are much harsher on Sylvia than me. Comparing him to Judd across drafts is a little unfair.

I haven’t seen a ball kicked so far this year but reports here on him seem to be positive. Others point out that he’s capable but its his consistency which is a concern. I fear he is just not up to it, injured or not.

You only have to look back to his game against the Bulldogs to see how damaging he can be.

It's wierd say if he was taken at pick 30 instead of 3 would he be judged so critically?

Maybe he wouldn't even be on our list

Sylvia will be a solid player if he can ever get his body right. He does have all the assets to be, good kick, good hands. I think his true spot is in the midfield and he'll get his opportunities this year. Perhaps work ethic could improve, which is strange because I'm sure 'work ethic' was one of his listed attributes when he was drafted.

I'll admit he has done nothing for the club to this point. I don't back on taking him as a mistake, look at the other highly touted youngsters for the 2003 Draft

1 Cooney - couldnt get him. But meh, anyway

2 Walker - awful disposal. Sylvia is much better in this regard

4 Ray - an outside midfielder

5. McLean - Best of the lot

6. Bradley - .......yeeeeaah.

7 Tenace - Thank Christ we didnt take him

Of that list I'd take McLean first, possibly Cooney second and Sylvia third.

I was wrong about Green as he's having a great year, Bruce has been the same.

But Sylvia really hasn't impressed. A real tradeable asset at years end. Package him with a late draft pick for Warnock.

Was a shocking draft looking back on it. We just happened to be at the bottom at the worst possible time. Barely anyone in the top 10 has become even a decent player, let alone a star. Sylvia is no different. 5 years and counting and he's getting shown up by kids who are 18 and played under 10 games. A real shame.

I think were judging him to hard.

I think he is doing an alright job but i think if he were in a Geelong or Hawthorn side he would be a lot better.

I want to give him another contract. He WILL be a very good player for us.

Incorrect. If he were playing for the Hawks or Cats, he would not be even getting a game.

Farren Ray would look alright in Red and Blue atm.

Good running player with decent enough skills, and Tenace would probably get a gig with any team outside Geelong, Hawkas and maybe the Doggies

I completely agree. In my eyes he's a good player. He does some boneheaded things at times (the clash with CJ today was just embarrassing), but I think he's improved to be an important part of the side.

I just think people can't see past the disappointment that he's not the superstar we wanted when we drafted him. He isn't, but he's a handy, strong bodied forward who does some nice things, and I do believe in a better team he would look better than he presently does.

Maybe but if he were in one of thoes in a year or two he would be a regular a be very good player

Probably not even in my best 18, let alone an "important part of the side".

I think some of us are letting his past injuries cloud our judgment. Oh poor Sylvia, he's never done a full-pre season. Give me a break, Brad Miller hasn't done a full pre-season in 3 years (until this season), but that never stood in the way of him being a team player.

Sylvia's skills are not the issue, and never have been. It's his attitude and selfishness that kills him as a footballer.

When he clashed and broke Ferguson's ribs a few seasons ago, we forgave him because he was "young and enthusiastic". 3 seasons on and he's still doing the same stupid things he's done since day one.

He has all the attributes to be a fantastic player, and that we settle on him being "a handy, strong bodied forward" just goes to show that we all know he'll never take the next step because his attitude won't let him. What a waste of talent (number 3 pick or not!).

I watched him pull out of 2 (admittedly tough) contests today - 1 to provide a contest in a mark in 1st quarter in our backline, can't remember circumstances of 2nd. I noticed after that, that before a contest, he has a look around. Unimpressed. He could take a few lessons from Valenti for toughness.

Well as its Mr Jimma's favourite letter of the moment "R"... well lets continue the ruthlessness !! Jaded is right.. many others are right.. Col does not represent any value going forward. Hes had enough time.. he doesnt show the correct demeanor let alone attitude to be a better than he is player... Who wants "handy"..who want "Ok"...who wants mediocrity on a stick?? I dont I want good footy players who PLAY !! not pick up wage cheques under false disguises.

Yes he does have talent.. must be still in his locker or garage at home as he rarely brings it with him to play..Ahh to 'play" does he really want to ?? You have to wonder at times where his head is at.

Seen enough...next !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think his attitude needs to be addressed....Bailey may need to spend time with Sylvia's ear over the summer.

Well duh: Brent Prismall can't get a game at Geelong, he would be a walk up start into many other teams, including us. Plenty of players, and good ones at that, can't get a game for those two teams.

If we pick up BP with a first or 2nd or even 3rd round pick, i'll be filthy. His reputation does not fit his game.

I wouldn't drop Valenti off the list for him.

I wasn't suggesting we should take him.

Long time reader of Demonland and only post occasionally when I feel strongly about something. Not to give you a big head Jaded, but 99% of your posts are absolutely correct especially this one.

I travelled to Melbourne this weekend from Canberra (as I try to at least 3 to 4 times a year) to see the Dees play and what I saw of Sylvia was appauling. I made a point of watching his work rate yesterday as I saw exactly what I had been fearing....Nothing. I don't need to expand here as it has been done already but at some points yesterday, I swear his legs were painted on.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
