Hardass Football

thought we could start a thread about the type of footy team we should become.

Obviously I feel we need to be the most hardass, brusing, fierce and feared team of the AFL.

With players like Slyvia, Jones, Bell, Moloney and Whelan we have the manpower now we need to execute.

Davey has a wicked tackle on him ( dirty minded fools) as do a few others.

Bradley Miller was a force a few years back with his hardness before he got robbed with some gay umpiring and a [censored] tribunal panel.

We have some big bodied , strong players now. Lets take advantage of it.

Winning

passionate and gutsy !!!!

A team that will win at any cost and arrogant about it, and is hated by all opposition supporters because of it.

I feel the opposite....

Winning yes but not at all costs...i dont want to become a collingwood...

1 - Winning premierships.... fairly.

2 - Winning finals.

3 - Winning games.

4 - Being tuff...

Winning at any costs is where being ruthless comes from. No club succeeds in the long run by winning respect from other teams by trying hard and sometimes winning. Just compare the financial situation that the kangas are in, for example, compared to Collingwood or Essendon.

The best sides in the world (and the sides that dominate over a longer period of time) in any given sport consist of teams that believe they can win any game in any position, and that belief is caused by arrogance. Just look at the Australian Cricket team, Manchester United, NY Yankees, etc. How many teams are there out there that market themselves based on the fact that they are well liked by their opposition?

*The highest skill level in the competition*

*Running over the top of teams with superior endurance*

*Other teams consistently complaining of being sore the week after playing us*

*If all else fails, known for beating teams that need to win to make the finals - Carlton and Chris Judd's demise would be a cherry on top* B)

Winning.

I don't care if people respect us or not. I don't think having other clubs hate us or think we're dirty is a necessity. Geelong didn't play like thugs or tough guys, they just played damn good footy. Brisbane played dirty and played good footy. I don't care which approach we take, as long as we win.

Don't care if other clubs supporters respect us or not. The winning feeling beats everything.

Pride in performance. Every player, week in / week out!

I hate those days where you should win easily but so many times before we have disappointed and lost easy matches!! carlton a few years ago when it cost us top 2....

we should be able to adapt to any style of footy - grind out wins when required but also winning games playing attractive footy....

also, the opposition should be scared of playing melbourne - not being able to front up and go, oh well we've got the demons, so it should be easy or we know what to expect.. keep the ball in tight, win the stoppages, etc...

youd need to corrolate though the connection between toughness and injuries. Its all nice and easy to say to go hard for the ball and give it everything you got, put your body and soul on the line and you will win games. Yes you may win a game or to with a ruthless unforgiving team, but going in with the tough mentality bring injuries to prone players like mclean and moloney, whos absence causes more losses than going in hard for the ball a couple of times.

Melbourne dont have that balance. Some players are conservative, avoiding injury (white and neitz) whilst the others mentioned above go hard at it.

So you're effectively saying Neitz doesn't put his body on the line?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
