I was thinking that actually. His shoulder muscles have the same circumference as his head. I can't speak for him but I know when I developed a bit of size around the rib-cage and shoulder area suddenly overhead marking became a breeze. He'll be harder to knock off his line in the air... Exciting stuff.

After 2007, everyone seems to have him pegged as a tall midfielder. I do like how he can get down low and go go go, but I'd much prefer to see him become a tall marking option that has speed, a la Bate, mostly because that is what we need. In 2006 Bate got huge over the summer and suddenly became "a player." Hopefully Dunny can do the same.

personally, that picture tells far more of a story than the article. the article is the usual preseason tripe with nothing really of note. every preseason there are about 400 of these per team. the picture however shows dunn going stride for stride with brocky. he could be a tall midfielder with great endurance or a forward with a bit of size about him so it is exciting. Question ... is that miller in 4th place behind buckley?

Frankly, neither the picture or story tell us anything. The picture is taken at a point in time in the circuit run.Was it at the start or the finish?

But Classy is right about the article. Its sudsy at best. I'd prefer Brock makes a statement on the field with his game rather than at a Lionel Ritchie concert.

"We have been doing a lot of game-style training early on. We are doing a lot of running and been in the gym but the big difference is that we are doing handball games already," said McLean.

Where is RCR and does he want to sack Bailey already?

Brock, Dunn, Buckley, Miller and Warnock are the guys i can spot...

What do you think neita is thinking about brock? Do i want to play under him as captain, see if he can pull something special??

To be honest Old, I cringed when I read that. The only teams that have been effective with a handball, run and carry style of game have been WCE and Pt. Adelaide, because they have the players with the pace and evasive skills to carry it out. I can't think of anyone on our list who is quick and evasive.

i love how they are spending a bit more time in the gym! its starting show more then last years effort!!

Cats - highest handball to kick ratio in 2007. Just because we did it badly in 2007 ...

when Dunn was drafted he had recorded a beep test mid15s...that's as good as an elite midfielder.

we now have a few taller players who have elite endurance- Dunn, Morton, Meesan, Bate...that's a definite positive in my books.

Hang on, is that DUNN in second place, on the right of the picture?

Frickin tank!

Definately not what I expected.

Buckley still looks every bit as big as the training photos from a couple of weks ago suggested, too.

Ahh, preseason.

So far we've seen Davey, Dunn and Buckley all look like they've added a huge load of upper body strength. Any others?

It's been a clear drafting strategy, I'd say.

Don't know about Newton's endurance test results but he has shown he can run around a fair bit on game day.

We're looking at a scary set of marking talls roving from forward to wing, running defenders off their feet. A match-up nightmare for opposition coaches.

You are pretty right about this time of the season.

Who reported that Melb had its best preseason last year? It could not have been the Club. We had numerous players down with OP. Bartram was long term injured and many leading players had poor post Christmas periods on the track through injury. On top of that we had Pickett clearly out of condition.

Yeah, I was out Sayurday night and saw a few of the boys in the club.

Didn't recognise Dunn until I read this, he looks a lot bigger. I kept wondering who that other bloke was.

But he looks a bit bigger than Bate and Miller at the moment, he'll be firing all cylinders this season by the look of him.

haha i kept thinking 'who does that guy play for? He's gotta be a player to be that size and i wish we had him at the dees'

Where is Jones?

Can anyone see him in the pic?

I was at Fridays training at Monash and couldn't see his bald head there either, though I was distracted through having taken my 2 young kids and he may just have been wearing a cap

I think am not sure but i think Jones is wearing a cap backwards with no shirt on and is next to Frawley (alot bigger) and Jeff White (looks in good shape).

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
