Strong rumour (but not a huge one)

I live up in the country and have heard strong words that we're very interested in Dean Putt, the Calder Cannons second ruckman who played a lot of the year on the HFF and killed Kreuzer in the semi final. No, this is not [censored], his family have said we're among a few clubs that have been talking to him heavily, I would think we'd pick him up with our 3rd or 4th round pick, thoughts?

Because I'm sure the other clubs recruiting managers are all currently ensconced in Demonland, taking our every word as gospel. <_<

Dean Putt – Calder Cannons

Ht: 202cm Wt: 90kg

Junior position – ruck

AFL position – ruck

Tall athletic ruckman who can push forward and take a mark. Is a left footer and his kicking is pretty good without being outstanding. Had some games where he had a heap of hit outs but others where he didn’t fire at all. Doesn’t always do a lot around the ground but he is very agile for a big man and his pace is good. Proved to be very dangerous up forward in a number of games.

Strengths: Pace and agility; Ability to push forward and kick goals; Marking

Weaknesses: Doesn’t always work hard enough around the ground; Should win more hit outs than he does; Kicking can be dodgy at times as far as hitting targets goes.

Question marks: Is he able to find something and improve his around the ground work?

Draft Prediction: Pick 30 plus. Someone will take him and hope he can find a few gears around the ground. His ability to take a big mark up forward makes him attractive.

Stats: Averaged 14 possessions and kicked 23 goals in 18 regular season games. Averaged 10 hit outs in those games.

202 cm and only 2nd ruck at Calder Cannons!? Who was their 1st ruck and tall was he?

202 cm and not a key position either - must have had small opponents if playing HFF - I've got doubts about this guy.

Guys with his type of height and stats and much better rating have failed before him .

Have you seen him play?

Has talent, killed Kreuzer in the hitouts in the semi final and kicked 5 in a match earlier in the year.

EDIT - I don't know who the Cannons first ruck was sorry

Putt's got ability but he'd take time to develop. He's got more talent than Neaves ever had, I can tell you now.

PS I ain't bias because I don't know him personally, but have heard through a friend of a friend.

I'm pretty sure McEvoy was the Cannons 1st ruck, and he'll be top 20.

Geez it's a tough crowd here sometimes. I didn't think what you said was so bad. I'm scared to give an opinion sometimes because you never know if people are going to jump down your throat or support you.

But what you said does make me wonder - if you (I don't mean you personally) were a talent scout and you saw a guy look great the couple of times you saw him but the stats aren't so great, what would you do?

Only going on what I was told by someone who saw the game mate, did you see it?

That's because everyone has a different opinion.

I would gamble on him with a late pick if I was a recruiter, which is the area of the draft Putt would end up in if he does get drafted.

i would do my best to get my hands on tapes of games. or have a chat to people who will have seen him regularly, coaches officials etc. perhaps even get down to watch him train, you may pick up some reasons from there

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
