Newton is good

I agree with him; Newton is very very good at kicking footballs and marking footballs and playing football on a football oval. I believe if I was playing a game of football, and Newton was on the other team and I was playing on Newton, then Newton would probably kick alot of goals on me because he is very very good at football.

This thread still has a lot to prove.

Brilliant...

From now on, if Juice has a good game, or does something noteworthy, I'm not going to go into any detail. I'm just going to say...

Newton is good...

Saw you guys managed to turn one of this guy's other no-content threads in to some semblance of a discussion -- any chance you could work your magic on this one too?

I think the "if you don't have anything to say, don't post a thread saying it" principle is grossly underrated by some.

Did anyone notice during the latter half of the season how people were starting to scream "Juice!!!" whenever he went near the ball?

This could turn into an Yze or Ang Christou scenario, with the word juice resonating across the MCG at twilight as he gracefully marks the ball.

There is one thing that I will point out that he needs to work on and that is his balance, if you watch videos of him playing late in the season, he goes to ground too often gor my liking and to fix this he needs to work not only on his strength, but also his positioning to enable him to be in the best position to take the mark or gather the spill.

He can't always take the screamer and as much as we would love him to, because who doesn't like a spekky, he needs to work on this aspect of his game

Otherwise Juice for GOD.. Fast becoming a fav player....

Genuine question here, not a rhetorical one -- how exactly does someone "work" on their balance? I would have thought balance is something you either have or don't. Robbo's a good example of someone with no balance.

I don't know if you can work on balance, but in saying that it is possible to work on positioning etc. to help with this problem.

For example an 85kg full back playing on a 115kg full forward wouldn't play man-on-man he would either come in from the side or play him in front

What are we up to now? Like 20 posts? Some threads don't even crack 10.

Our work here is done...

I'll make an attempt at turning some kind of discussion out of this post.

Based solely on the Kangaroos game I have a feeling Bailey is aware of Newton's strengths, that being playing full forward from the square. He has shown promise as a Full Forward, without being stationed in that position this year.

Looking at the Kanga's game Newton spent a lot of his time up on a wing and across half forward, why? To expose him, and give him a reality to check and inform him, through his inability to pick up the ball below his knees, that he has a long way to go. This and his inability to body out an opponent one on one are his real weaknesses. Instead of hiding him in the goalsquare and allowing him to lead, or take a run and jump at it, Bailey is getting Newton up the field where the chance of a one on one, and where there are more opportunities to collect the ball below his knees.

Many, and I agree, say he is a one-dimensional player. Yes, so what do you do about it? Bailey is pushing him up the ground to work on his weaknesses. Brilliant coaching in my opinion. I hope Bailey leaves him in for the rest of the year, but more importantly I hope we see some real development. If he remains a one dimensional player, his time in the sun is limited, the modern game doesnt allow for stay at home full forwards. If he can develop his weaknesses he can play a big part in Melbourne's development.

I too was frustrated by his performance on Sunday, but I'm sure Bailey has a bigger plan for him. Give him a chance.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
