full back.. who can do it?

We all know that MFC is in desperate need for a strong fullback (glass type) player. Carroll is a very good footballer, but he is better playing on the 2nd tear forward. Can the Ferberger get big enough and strong enough to play a permenant full back position? Id love to see him do it!! If not, who can?

Fergy- Nope, he is depth at best.

Carroll- He is a good full back because he has a magic moe. He is better value as a 2nd defender.

Frawley- Still raw, and not really ready ofr the job

Rivers- Maybe a tad short for CHB (although he does it well) could be a handy FB on quicker forwards.

PJ- Could take the Gorillas when Dutchy is busy being Dutchy.

Buckets- When he is hot he is a solid backman, when he is cold he is our worst player.

Dunn- Why not? He isn't being used up forward.

Miller- APPARENTLY he is baileys love child, so he can play anywhere he wants to.

I think we dont give enough credit to Fergy.. I reckon he could show us next year something special...... I love what u said ' when dutchy is busy being dutchy'

You gotta love him.. hahaha

Put Frawley in a pocket and try and develop him into either a CHB or FB. Rivers isn't quick, reads the play better than anyone at our club, so it probably looks like he's quick.

Miller is not Bailey's love child, but FB is the only place I can see Miller holding down in the 22. FB's don't have to kick, don't have to be clever, and don't have to get the ball. Miller could just concentrate on beating his bloke, he's strong, he's quick, and he's dedicated.

I can't believe i'm saying this...(i'll be saying it with an upward inflection, like there's a question mark at the end): Let Miller have a go at FB for a while.

Now compare this awesome bunch to the geelong premiership backline.

We have a loooooooooong way to go.

we dont have a fullback period !!! we dont even at present have a likely looking candidate. 2nd and 3rd ups's yep, have a few.

A good , quality , miserly fullback.. No where near it. I was half hoping we might be trying to snare a half hopeful in the trade....nada !!. we worry so much about kicking goals but we let them slip past with monotous regularity. either Bailey is playing for time and looking to get someone to work into the spot over time ot he has some miracle sure up his sleeve. Of all the spots on the field this one worries me the most about our line up.

They were just our fullback options. Let's not forget Whelan and Bell.

There's alot of potential in Frawley, Garland, and maybe even Miller. If just one of them came good then it would solve alot of problems for us.

My money is on Frawley to be a massive developer under Bailey.

Long term he is our best Full Back option.

Has the raw potential to model himself on a Scarlett or Glass.

He is our man, give it a couple of years & he will be every Full Forwards nightmare.

I dont think FB is that much of a worry for us, as long as Frawley (or one of the other kids, maybe one from this years draft?) developes like we hope. Carroll will probably play a transitional role as a starting FB in the next year or two, while Chip will hopefully get regular games in the back pocket to hone his craft with minimal pressure; doesnt matter if he gets carved up occasionally, its all part of the learning experience.

He's not an ideal choice I know, but I honestly think Choppers done a fair job at FB in the last two seasons. He struggled at times this year but Im hoping with Rivers back next year to lend some support, and hopefully with Melbourne more competitive in the midfield, he'll get back to 06 form. If we're stuck with him at FB for another two years while Frawley developes it wouldnt be great, but it wouldnt be the end of the world either.

I am of the opinion that Carroll is the only player who is the best of the lot of them. I think there might be something behind Baileys decision to keep Miller...perhaps to take care of FB although my $ is on him playing CHF with Bailey at the helm. Fergs is shocking overhead but has speed carroll doesent. I would like to see Warnock have a chance at FB for a few games too, seing as we are not going to win the flag, i would like to trile players at different positions. I really like Warnock

He's never been able to get 'big enough and strong enough' in the past, and he's 26 or so. Apparently his brother's the same regarding putting on weight. I can't see it happening.

Full back will be determined by what player lines up there, it won't be a permanent position for one player. Most of our backmen are capable but we need to focus on stopping the ball getting delivered easily and accurately into the opponents forward line. We will need alot more pressure and chasing from our Half Forwars and Midfielders. This will then make our Backlines job a bit easier

Rivers is a gun defender. but he is best suited to a lose roll. We need a big man like a D Glass. IF we had him and Chopper taking the 2nd foward and rivers lose we'd have a great backline.

I'd like to see PJ played down back, he is tall and agile for his size. Possibly FB but More likely CHB. Wheatley taking the kickouts and white/PJ taking the mark. Perhaps 1 of them could run forward to stretch the defence?

PJ is way to slow. good to chuck down in the one on ones but not on the lead

No way PJ for CHB.. Too big and slow.. Imagine Reiwolt on him, he would run an absolute muck. Possibly FB but for only the slower, lead/mark type players. I wish Melbourne got somone like Scarlett or Glass. Perfect FB's.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
