Listening to SEN this morning, it seems a formality that the Tigers will pick up Mitch Morton from the Eagles.

This being the case, i am almost certain that part of this deal would be to take brother Cale with the No.2 pick.

This leaves West Coast with the decision of taking the next best player in Cotchin, who is a Victorian, and whose Dad has already expressed reservations about his son going to their club.

I believe we are an excellent chance of snaring Cotchin, as the eagles, with this Judd experience may opt for one of the highly touted WA boys in Masten or Palmer.

Cotchin would be incredible to land and i dont see it happening. I want Palmer preferably...that is if Cotchin is unavailible

4- Palmer

Why is Richmond picking up Cale a condition of West Coast trading Mitch? The only party that could impose that condition, and even then it would only be a gentlemans agreement, is West Coast. Mitch is hardly in the position to say 'I'll only go to Richmond if you pick up Cale'. And if WC were pushing this condition, then you could be dead-set certain they are after Cotchin.

There is a suggestion that the parents will relocate to Melbourne with both brothers playing together on the one team.

Cale is regarded as a top three pick. The Tigers will be getting Mitch relatively cheaply, but a player must agree to be traded. Would Mitch be more than happy to land at Richmond if he knew his brother was going to play there too? I think it's a possibility.

Fair enough. I note also that the other one is playing at Hawthorn.

I don't think McEvoy is the best player available at pick 4. I suspect it will be either Palmer or Masten.

McEvoys stock has risen dramatically

I would have taken Palmer, but now I would go with mcEvoy

A 199cm kid that can take a mark and kick a goal.

We are screaming out for talented KPP's

I'll put the question like this.

If the Tigers did draft Cale Morton at No.2, do you think West Coast would draft Cotchin?

Yes.

They may have been stung this year by Juda$, but they will not expect that to happen all the time, or even most of the time. This would be our only chance of getting Cotchin, and it is not high-percentage recruiting by West Coast.

Believe me I would be ecstatic, but I do not see it happening.

I understand that Masten is rated VERY highly in WA. I don't remember where I read it exactly but he is very well regarded over there. He is almost the archetypal in-and-under midfielder. So there is a chance, and it is Masten. But the chance is slim.

On the one hand Cotchin's father may not want his son playing for WC... even though WC would say they don't give a rat's what Cotchin's father thinks, this would probably be a turn off for them.

But on the other hand he is rated as about the most talented player in the draft, and Masten has OP.

You obviously didn't see the under 18s grand final. Less chance of drafting McEvoy after we have traded for Meesen. I would say we were more of a chance to go for Palmer, Masten or Ebert from your list.

The Richmond supporter who called up today, had mail that the Tigers were going to take Cale if they secured Mitch in the trading period.

KB quizzed Greg Miller about Morton and Cotchin on his show yesterday because he had received messages from concerned Tiger fans that they were not going to take Cotchin. Miller was very deflective on this topic.

I just find it interesting that Mitch wants out of West Coast and is linked with the Tigers like it is a done deal. It's a stretch, but not out of the realms of possibility.

Got to agree with that. Obviously I have my preferences, but I'm not going dislike a player just because we could have had someone else.

From the sound of it, they will take Cale with pick 2. Thats what we've been hearing from the get go. If Miller is avoiding the issue then you can bet your bottom dollar that that is what they are going to do. Who the hell are KB and the supporters to complain if Miller decides that Morton is their man?

I don't think thats the issue, however. The issue will be getting Cotchin past Weagles at pick 3.

We have all identified the holes in our list, one was a ruckman, we now have 3 young ruckman and White, we have two years for Jamar, PJ and Meesen to step up to be our No1 Ruck.

Secondly are two key post CHf and CHB, do we look at Rance and Henderson

And last we need skillfull, fast midfielders to complement our hard young midfielders we have now. I think pick 4 should be used to get depending who is avaliable one of Palmer, Masten, Ebert, Cotchin or Morton all see to fit what we need. IMO this is the way to go get one of these guys, I will leave it to CAC and Bailey to decide.

I agree Drake, Do we look at drafting both Henderson and Rance (should he be available) in the one draft???

Or do we get a mid with our first pick (Palmer, Masten, Ebert, Cotchin  ) and then go for a KPP??? If this was the way, which i think it will be, surely we would go for a backman first.

Our first pick needs to be on a fast and skilled mid, IMHO. If WCE get scared by another Judd scenario and we get Cotchin, that seems to be great. Either way, we should get a decent player.

I'd spend our other picks on KPP prospects - if they're ~the best at that pick, if not you just take whoever - and rookie ruckmen.

Posted

Well im thinking its out of Palmer or Cotchin for our 4th pick ( whoever is there standing there to be taken)

Can anyone elaborate what the differences are for these two players?

As i want someone with silky skills and chases hard for tackles but most of all silky skills to go along with our hard nut younger midfield, actually as i think about it, Simon Buckley could be that man, i really think he has some nice skills and could play a bigger part in 2008

i'm starting to hear so much about Masten, that it seems he's clearly the best midfielder after Cotchin and Morton.

if WestCoast dont pick this kid up, we should definitely take him.

runs a beep test of 14.12, springs in under 3 seconds. in the archetypal inside and outside midfielder. is a ball magnet, and a genuine footballer

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
