I'm now of the opinion Neeta ought to still lead in 08.. he can go out in ablaze of glory...and hand over the job and seasons end... when we might have a clearer idea of his successor.

Spot on B59. It seems stupid not to lead the club for just one more season. After all this will probably be his last and our 150 th birthday.

Personally i think Neitz will keep the captaincy unless Bailey asks him to stand down. If this happens then i am all for Green has fantastic leadership skills and i think he will step up if made captain.

Neitz Captain 2008

Green Captain 2009

and then Brock when he's ready to be captain.

Any chance DB will put in a co-captaincy policy. Green, Mclean and JMac.

The Storm weren't sure Cam Smith was ready for the captaincy so Storm named 3 captains that year which included Cam.

The following year Cam Smith was named as their only Captain after a stellar year.

Yuck, if he does that I'll be annoyed.

We are a proud club with history. There should ALWAYS be one captain. More than one is weak and a cop out.

As long as it's only temporary I don't mind the idea. But I really would hate to have 'co-captains' on a permanent basis. It cheapens the role, and smacks of corporate empowerment. Newsflash Sydney/Brisbane/etc, this is a football club, not a boardroom.

I agree about it being a cop out but I think he should captain the club with perhaps Bate, Rivers, McLean, Jones to fight out for a couple of VC roles or form the main leadership group I see no sense in making McDonald, or Bruce co-captain or vice captain when you need a young bloke to step up the following year.

Jmac will be Captain 2008, Reason: Look at his tackle stats for 07. It shows that he puts his body on the line and does the one percenters for the smallest player

We won't replace a 32 year old Neita for a 30 year old Junior.

Either we get someone who can captain long term next year, or Neita does it again. Simple.

Agreed.

Ideally this was suppose to be Brocks year to blossom and to become skipper in 08.

Neitz is definitely the man in '08 and hopefully we can see one of Rivers, Brock or even Jones really emerge to take over the reigns.

disagree...todd viney did a great job for a year and helped the preperation for neitz...jmac and neitz can help us for the future

And how many Todd Vineys do we have on the list?

Junior is not the leader Todd Viney was. Although I love the way he goes about his business and believe he should definitely be part of the leadership group, to have him captain whilst Neitz is still on the list would not make sense.

what do u mean mate? junior is a leader. the respect from his team mates and the hard work he puts in week in week out makes a leader.

A Captain is usually someone with experience and who is respected by all. Neitz would get the job but he will be lucky to play ten games. Jmac is next in line, with two B & F's he gets the respect. Even though he one of the smallest players in our group he shows everyone how to play the game,. If only other players had the size of his heart and wears his jumper with as much pride. You always know he will give the teqam his all, Thats what a Captain is. Captain doesn't need to be long term. It would be good if the club gave him some appreciation of his services and give him the job for the remainder of his career.

Junior is not a leader...neita should continue for one more year, and it will be either Brock Mclean or Nathan Jones who takes over long term after that

He is a leader, but he's not the sort of leader we need to change the direction of this mob. McLean is the type we are after. Somebody who revs the team up from go to woe, taps on the ass and all that. Somebody who is always talking. The only thing between him and being a damn fine leader is that too often his 'talking' is directed at the umpires.

With the awards this season given to Jmac for most consistent and Green for Best team player you could bet your bottom dollar they we lead the playing group next season

Nathan Jones should stick to having as good a second (permanent fixture) season as this one just passed.

Brock ain't a leader.

He might be, he should be. But right now he isn't. Recent events should make this very clear.

Leadership isn't yelling at your teammates to show more intensity.

Leadership is being as consistent in the bad years as you are in the good years, its about getting the most out of yourself, and it's about putting your body on the line to do the 1 percenters that no-one seems to do.

James McDonald is an All-Australian Midfielder, he has won our past two B&F's, he is our most selfless player.

He deserves the captaincy more than anyone on our list.

It's about time he got it.

Posted

I agree about about Brock, he is having enough trouble showing leadership on a footy trip by the sounds of it. Give him a few years as stated earlier there is no imediate resolution other then stick with neita and have a few young guys as vice captains.

Posted

We must give it to someone somewhat young. For the future.

That rules out Jmac along with his obvious lack of leadership skills. Yes he leads by examples but you don't see him rallying his teammates.

Remember it doesn't have to be the best player, just someone who can rallly the team and fire them up. Look at Tom Harley. Definitely not Geelong's best player but look at the team huddling around him before veey game while he fires them up. He's an inspirational leader, we need someone like that.

Would have liked Mclean myself. Goes in hard. Fires up teammates. Speaks his mind and speaks well to the media. However his poor year this year (largely due to injury) and his adventures overseas may have caused him to lose his chance at being skipper in '08.

Jones is a good option but a little too early. Maybe there is a chance for a Jmac captaincy for two years and then Jonesy taking over.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
