This was us filming part of a promo. I thought it was a Fox promo (same as last year) but it’s an MFC-produced video. We made the banner last week and did a mock raising yesterday outside the ‘G. Then we cruised up and down the Yarra in a boat waving flags etc. and yelling out to Kozzie. It was so much fun, until it wasn’t: I experienced a sad combo of sunburn and mal de mer and had to disembark early 😭

Is your Demon Army membership current?

for those who have been attending regularly do we think the starting talls for round 1 are JVR and Luker?

Also is the writing nearly on the wall for Henderson and McAdam with the sudden rise of Latrelle and Ricky? i suggest only one of these 4 will be playing in the seniors and i can’t really see us playing 3 in the 2’s

I noticed a number of turnovers from him today, but also that he got pressure on Koz and laid tackles where just about no one else from our team would.

And I want to see him taking the game on as much as possible at training. Even at Casey he’d have 25 touches but not a single one of them is aggressive. All short sideways or long and wide.

I suspect if he makes it long term he’ll be a defensive stopper first but he has to grow his offensive side, if for nothing else just to get out of trouble when it’s hot. He coughed the ball up in embarrassing ways at times last year

Playing safe won't earn him a spot in King's team so it's up to Howes to show he can hit those kicks and take the game forward.

FWD: JVR, Mihocek & Johnson (If 3 are required). I think they'll want to see Luker tear up a couple of Casey games early.

BACKS: May, Petty & Turner. TMac can play small and all are well ahead of Adams for me.

Couldn’t disagree more on these from what we’ve seen so far..but that’s why PS is fun!

I’d guess it’s JVR, Checkers & Jeffo or Luker

Down back it is Disco, Harry & Lever with Adam’s next in line but May is def putting in the yards to try to sway opinion

Howes competing with Taylor for the hybrid spot — but his inability to take game On by foot or by speed will hurt him but who knows

Over heard a bit a conversation between May and a trainer when they walked past. Trainer said he must be pretty happy with where he's at and May said his skin folds look good and he's dropped a few kilos.

Make of that what you will

Heard similar encouragement per my report that he’s sprints were what he’s had since joining club — he is def having a crack and looks leaner for sure

Is Brody Mihocek a natural right footer?

Reportedly that's the foot he injured his toe late last season.

Just been viewing the Training Gallery January 21 on the club's website. Where he's off bike and looks like having a kick to kick in the park. Using his right peg.

I'm never sure with foot injuries which foot is more impacted. Is it the foot which connects with the ball or the foot that gets planted into the ground? Perhaps it depends on what the injury actually is.

Does anyone know if we are at Gosh's tomorrow?

(i did look on our website, no doubt it's there somewhere but i couldn't see it and i dont have an hour to look!)

Doesn't Salo's family own a Lebanese restaurant? When I read Leb yesterday I assumed Salem. Pardon your French but sorry for your mal de mer and sunburn. I guess you really were red and blue.

I believe it was a dislocated big toe on his right foot. Happened back in September maybe??

3 of those 4 are basically yet to fire a shot at AFL level and the other can never get fit enough to get a on the park at any level.

I tend to agree there is probably a spot for one or maybe two in the senior team (form permitting) but my concern is not that we have any type of surplus, but we have at least one that can impact meaningfully in that small forward role on a consistent basis.

My money is on LSP at this stage mainly due to the fact Koz will try his best to make it work - but I can't say I'm over optimistic on any of them to be the next Bobby Hill/Papley/Watson

Agree Sydee Latrelle has consistently shown that he has serious weapons, just needs to continue to build stamina and strength he is 180cm and has a more mature body than Kozzie had in his first year.

Tommy Mathews comes with huge wraps, he was the captain of Gippsland Power, however his PCL injury held him back, I think JT mentioned that they were surprised that he was still available at our 3rd pick. He is the same height as Kozzie (172cm) but has very strong legs and larger body type, I’m picking him as this years Smokey if he can get his knee right.

Ricky Mentha is showing that he has some X factor but needs to perform well at Casey to get a call up. Shane McAdam could be a lock if his body holds up, he has great skills as shown at Crows but he can’t stay on the park. And we have Kozzie 🌟🌟🌟and Kade Chandler 🌟 already performing at a high level.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
