No Viney, Oliver, Petracca for season 2026

Almost a bit poetic the Viney stuff

Imagine telling Brad Green this at the 2024 B&F

Look, if he wasn’t injured, I don’t think anyone would say it’s a bad decision to extend him. I think [censored] happens.

Whilst he might have a poor kick, I’d take his heart and commitment any day.

Early contender for worst post of the year.

On what planet do you extend a contract 18 months out to a 31 year old who may be gutsy but is completely one dimensional & has had previous major injuries.

In a world where you’ve recently lost Angus Brayshaw and Neal-Bullen and are aware you are also losing Oliver and Petracca soon.

You act like I resigned Viney 😂 and don’t worry. 10 months to go, I’m sure you’ll snag top spot champ.

Any news on Culley?

He’s missing a month, but they said he can still do fitness training. Decent chance he will be available for round 1

Basket case scenario looming large

Completely agree with this and I had an argument with another Dees fan over it. Viney has been a fantastic servant of the club and I've loved his career from the start, but the way he and his manager took advantage of us in a weakened position to get an extra couple of years on his contract (when he has already had injury issues) really rubbed me the wrong way. I get it, he's human and ultimately has a life and family outside of the Dees, but when you look at other clubs and see players sacrificing salary/years on their contract to me it reflected poorly not only on Jack but the culture that we have failed to build.

Didn’t like it from Jack, but also don’t know why the club felt any pressure when he was still contracted.

If he was out of contact he would’ve deserved at least 2 years, maybe 3 for such a great servant. But effectively 4 was just crazy stuff.

My theory is Goodie was looking for a good news story to distract from the team's performance.

Bad news about Viney, probably won’t see him to after the bye in the best case, but slightly good news on Culley, if he’s out for the 4 weeks quoted he might only miss 1 game.

Of those 4, Jai is considered to be likely to play Round 1.

I should have also said that I do not know the current status of May.

I was talking to a veteran AFL Recruiter who was involved at North at the time of Viney’s resigning and he stated categorically North were never going to sign him Lamb was unfortunately screwed by father and son which hurts because I love them both

What hurts? Jack did what he had to do to continue to get paid when he most likely wouldn’t have?

It’s his job.

And it’s Tim Lambs job to do the best deals to improve the List of the MFC. In this Recruiters words one of the worst deals he has seen

Probably didn’t help that Viney played one of his career best (if not best) games against Gold Coast a week or so before he extended with us.

I remember the sentiment on this forum after that game was “please stay Jack”

Spot on.

Just look at the key trading decisions King and the club have just made:

Out:

Tracc and Clazz

In:

Steele and Miochek

Out: two players with questionable impact on culture

In: two players widely considered to be solid citizens that positively contribute to culture.

Viney is the very definition of such a player.

  1. We don’t know what the contract looks like, it may have been smooth out to allow other decisions to be made (like having some room to pay Kossie).

  2. Having Jack tied to the club shows those joining us that we support our players and is therefore beneficial in recruiting players and retaining them. It’s a strong message to managers.

  3. Having Jack around is terrific for culture and giving him some further support after what he has given to the club is the right thing to do.

  4. All the armchair experts patting themselves on the back are doing so before the contract extension has even come into effect. Judge it when it has and that starts next year. It may work, it may not. One thing we know is Jack, like he has done all his career, will give it everything he’s got. He’s a champion of the club, he’s a past captain and premiership player and not only has he got my full support I’m happy he’s with us for the next few years. To not have him but a very low pick instead makes little sense to me. The opportunity cost is most likely a young kid running round at Casey.

I would also say, look at how many very average players sit on lists for 3-4 years before being delisted. Every club has them. He brings incredible leadership and also on field coaching as we transition to the new breed.

I really don’t get the people cracking sads over this. Like sure maybe it would be better to do a 2 year extension instead, but this won’t hamstring us moving forward so I’m not really bothered.

Thought as much, so do you still love them both??

I know there were Trac/Oliver issues that year but he won the Bluey in 2024, he had a good season amongst the turmoil. Contract length perhaps too long, but we don't know the ins and outs of it all.

I'd like everyone to get a fresh start for 2026 under the new coach, unfortunately it's a bit delayed for Jack.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
