I honestly think he lacks the talent for the top level. He has rarely if ever dominated a game at VFL level. He has some had some good games but nothing that screams I should be in the seniors. His few games at the top level have been a couple of marks and a goal or two but seems to go missing for parts of the game. A friend said to me last year he looks the figure in those blow up people you see at car yards that are all arms and body flying about. Sadly I was struggling up disagree.

If you go over his games at Casey, quite a few were excellent! The problem last year was a bad hand injury and when fit was rushed straight back in without any form. RESULT got dropped and this was on Goodwin. Then when he did show some form Goodwin Refused to play him in meaningless games at the end of the season. I'm sure a new coach can bring tge best out of him!

I hope you are right.

I think kentfield seems to have that mongrel in him which you love to see in a KPF. Hopefully with a big preseason we get to see the best of kentfield this year. Still so young too, only just turned 20 this year

Can confirm he does have mongrel, no question about it

We need a porta poti for them. I saw three head to the far away end, kneel and do the, I am a river to my people. MFC should do better!

One very cold and wet day in winter training was well underway when I arrived. There were no other spectators. As I rounded the corner of the marquee (as you know Kev, it’s a blind turn) I came upon X taking a leak up against that huge shade tree under which we track-watchers usually congregate. The tree is very close to the marquee as well as the boundary fence. But it wasn’t awkward at all. As I walked past X said, “Hey, Ghosty!” and I said, “Hey X!” And that was it.

A portaloo would be a good addition though.

All in a days work.

Hostile work environment, without a designated toilet.

Funny story, thanks.

Maybe a small tent with a bucket.

Gross! Whose job would it be to empty the bucket?

Unless it is the evil thing, then a personal bottle emptier may come in under the softcap.

Probably yours GW, given you are also doing so many other things, which I for one sincerely appreciate 😀

Thanks TA <3

But as much as I love the players I’m not down for carting their urine away after training 😁

This is all a bit disturbing visually but more so amenity wise. Is it really true that our multi, multi million dollar professional team does not have access to an ablution block and must relieve in the open. Pretty bad methinks.

Question to everyone is this actually true? Did Robbie Flower have mongrel? If it's exactly the same as competitiveness I guess I agree. I just want to see players giving their all. Is that the same?

Imagine being paid a million a year yet being forced to pee like an animal at your workplace.

That was my thought also Go Ds, competitiveness that “will to win” ,”hate being beaten” is ingrained into every winning group each doing their bit to get the win regardless of the cost. Hopefully our coaching group can find the way to ignite the passion in each of their charges to find that level of desire to succeed.

There are very few like Robbie Flower he was the graceful Gazelle amidst the Lions, he loved to take them on and win.

Mongrel no, but as fearless and courageous as I've ever seen.

QED ... A player doesn't have to have mongrel.

He will almost certainly play as a mid for Casey but he is probably so far back in the pecking order for mid spots (see the list of mids in my report remembering that Viney and Lindsay did not take part in the session) that he is used as a forward in most drills that have game day like structures. I don’t want to come across as being harsh as he does perform well in the VFL but if we are in a situation where he is playing in the ones as a mid then it is likely that we have been hit with a lot of injuries or very poor form from the 8 or 9 players ahead of him at this stage.

Can we assume that there is a 'pecking order' with regard to any of the zones on the ground given that there has been so much change in the list, the coaches and the game plan?

I think that new, clear eyes will be assessing everyone during the preseason. I know that there is historic form and evidence with all of the players but this is a very different club to what is was a couple of months ago.

I think there will be a few surprises from players that will challenge us to alter our perceptions of them.

Well thank goodness you have put ..”the world to rights”, Nothing like a good dose of pessimism to suck the energy out of the optimism of our pre season track watchers

They may have to get the players to wear male Catheters and a bag at training. 'yer right' They need to get to Waverley ASAP. It is pretty bad - 1950's stuff.

Match SIM finished. They’ve split into two groups for two separate drills. One drill starts on the wing and involves two players kicking a ball each to two assistants and getting the ball back and kicking to a leading forward either Mihocek, JVR, Jefferson, Fritsch or White.

I can’t work out what is happening with the other drill. Mostly defenders but Windsor and Pickett involved too. Mix of red and pink bibs but it doesn’t appear as if the bibs mean anything as red kicking to pink. It will remain a mystery. 🤣

All part of Steve's Secret Squirrel Strategy 😉

The NEW plan 😉

Laurie: Bill is a fascinating case. He excels at VFL level and looks impressive on the training track, yet he has had very few chances to show what he can do at senior level. This preseason he is being used as a forward, but for mine there are several small forwards who appear to be ahead of him, including Thomas Matthews, who is still in rehab. It feels like a last roll of the dice for him, and he needs to make the most of any opportunity he gets.

NEEDS A CHUNK OF GAMES. HE'S NOT A FORWARD.. IF ANYWHERE AS OUTSIDE LINKING MID. I LIKE BILL, BUT NOT SURE HE'LL REALLY FIND SPACE IN THIS TEAM 🤷‍♂️ HE HAS POISE AND NOUSE... NOT ALWAYS THE AFL TEMPO .

Jefferson: Another interesting case. He will surely need to prove himself at Casey if he wants to break into the senior side. I would love to see a bit more mongrel from him both at training and on game day. He has clean hands and is an accurate kick for goal.Likely the last roll of the dice for him too this season. Luker Kentfield is breathing down his neck.

MORE MONGREL ?? HOW ABOUT SOME !! SADLY FOR SOME I SEE NO FUTURE FOR HIM WITH US. HASNT THE PHYSICALITY TO OWN THE FWD SPOT. MOVE OVER ROVER... NICE LAD...TOO NICE 😉

Mihocek: I was very happy to trade in Brody. He is just what the Doctor ordered for our forward line. Will provide a nice foil for JVR and will work very well with Fritta. Leads at the ball well. Excellent hands. Very accurate kick

EXCELLENT PICKUP. WILL MAKE HUGE DIFFERENCE. CHANGES OUR DYNAMIC AND 'ORDER' IN THE ARC

Latrelle Pickett: Love everything I have seen from Trelly. Classy user of the ball, can sell candy, has pace and can work his way up and down the ground. It is a thing of beauty to watch the two Picketts combine. It will set the G on fire.

AHH ...SORT OF THE LUCKY DIP MYSTERY PRIZE. COULD BE ANYTHING. IF HE CAN CAN STEP UP TO AFL PACE AND INTENSITY THEN HE MAY WELL BECOME ANOTHER WEAPON.

POSSIBLY NIGHTMARE MATERIAL FOR OPPOSITIONS. BAD ENOUGH ONE PICKETT... BUT TWO.... A SALIVATING THOUGHT 😉

It’s true with Luker, he has mongrel and is very competitive. You don’t have to have both but IMO you must have a competitive desire to play at the highest level. Those who just have talent don’t last

No, not Tulip. He had bucket loads of courage. He could however get a bit of a niggle on 😉

A very determined lad was Robbie.

He willed us through some dark days.

The best players I've seen and have played with have always been super competitive.

It's really not necessarily mongrel, but some also had that.

Sorry 'Pennant' just posted the same before reading your post...

...and on Luker, he definitely has mongrel. Saw him take care of a senior opposition player who thought he could get one over on the kid. He won't try that again.
