Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm getting sick of MFC players going public without engaging their brains first.

1. Robbo goes public and endorses neale after kicking 7 goals agaiinsta the Pies. Great , if he bothered to back it up the next week. remeber the tigers match. Danners goes the week after.

2. Neitz says they are playing for Riley's future. Wrong david, your'e all playing for your own, and Mark Riley undrestands this and doesn't need gratuitous support if its not backed up on the field. You know, the way the Bates , Sylvias, Frawleys and their mates did last week.

I'm expecting words of 'wisdom' from Brad Green any day now.

Can't wait

We've had leadership issues since Lyon, Viney and Stynes retired, sad but true. Hopefully things will turn around in a couple of years.

What else would he say mate?

Having a coach for 10 years and a close mate in danners, he isnt going to say just after a win" oh bloody oath mate, huge difference, Rileys approach totally different than ND and its such a welcome change"

My apologies for taking part in the discussion. What was I thinking?

Pointed out that Davey was told to stay next to the point post

Shock! Horror! Our best small forward told to play in the forward line... Who'd have thunk it?

Glad that we finally have a coach who is prepared to play forwards in the forward line and not on the half-back flank.

I wonder if we really have the right blokes picking the new coach?

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E19742,00.html

"Lyon, Gerard Healy, Danny Frawley, Mark Maclure, Robert Walls, Peter Schwab and Anthony Ingerson have been consulted about the coach search."

I'm underwhelmed.

Well let's look at them individually.

G.Lyon - Now works in the media. Perhaps a good one, I guess he's as knowledgeable as anyone else.

D.Frawley - Isn't he an assistant coach with another team?

M.Maclure - No confidence in this guy at all.

R.Walls - I never read any of his articles, I'd much prefer David Parkin to this clown.

P.Schwab - I know Schwabby personally, he's got alot of knowledge on the game and is still in touch with what's happening

A.Ingerson - Was a great player but as far as I'm aware he's been concentrating on his building business since retiring, what knowledge and skills will he bring forward?

I have to say Apocalypse that I have to agree with you.

This so called group of consultants is a joke. Most of them have no senior premiership experience (Lyon, Burke, Ingo, Frawley); Frawley and Scwab were failed coaches and Walls most recent success was 20 years ago. We drink from the well of failure once again! What I will never be able to understand is how Gardiner and Harris can come up with a review process and force the hand of the incumbent; and then come up with this group of failures to find the replacement. The irony of Schwab's role is that when ND was appointed he and Damien Drum were the next two in line. Thank God we appointed ND - imagine how bad the last 10 years could have been! How about Stan Alves, who at least gave St Kilda their most successful season since 1966, is an ex Melbourne Captain and premiership player (albeit at North) and is still involved in the media. I haven't liked this "process" from the start and I have even less confidence now.

As much as I admire and love Stan I think the coach has to come from well outside the club and be given virtually carte blanche to put his own stamp on the club's football department and playing list. That starts with the bootstudder, the property steward (groan) and goes all the way up through the ranks including fitness staff. The less familiarity with the personnel at the club the better as far as I'm concerned. We have been an unsuccessful club for far too long and we need someone to instil the ways of winning back into the ranks.

Agree Warren D. Of the list, Maclure is probably the only one for me who has demonstrated he can speak his mind. I am not privy to what Ingo can bring to the table.

This whole 'process' reeks of an administration not willing to make a hard decision and absconding on its responsibility to what is the biggest decison this club faces in plotting its long term future.

If all goes pear shaped, who gets the balme, er sorry..blame. Gardner? Surely not. He appoints a committe to make all the hard calls. Nice touch.

WTF.

So I guess we have decided that these people are inept and are therefore absolutely going to make the wrong decision then?

get rid of Robert Walls, his opinions are rubbish and he is the one who recommended Ross Lyon to ST Kilda. I assume the club is paying all these consultants. How hard could it be, you have Voss, Mckenna, Lomgmire, Ratten, Harvey, plus a few others, interview them and pick what our club needs, a hard nosed leader that our players will respond to and has a good long broom to sweep through the club.

Why were at it, why don't we find a few more so called experts and throw more even more opinion in the mix. And perhaps even Bev for the final soft, feminine touch.

Does the myriad of outsourcing of opinion in any way indicate that we really know what we want or are looking for?

Given the number of chefs this club thinks it needs to make this souffle rise, I think not.

Maybe, maybe not.......

From out here we have no specific idea what the club is exactly looking for, we can only hope that they have a notion of what we are all looking for as our new coach. Maybe the outsourcing was deemed to be the perceived best thing for the situation? I don't know, and I am not going to pretend to know.

There does seem to be a hell of a lot of people involved, but honestly who cares as long as they make the right decision for the club.

I guess the downside is that that won't be known until we are well into 2008.

The reality is that the process should not be too complicated on the surface, but given we are bitching about who makes up the panel it is probably a little more so than expected, and while I am not convinced about all the names on that list (or the number) we have to think that they have a voice that the club wants to hear.

All we can really do is hope that it is the right voice :D !!!

Sorry Rumpole, I didn't mean for Stan to coach, but to add input to the consultancy group - I rate him far more highly than most of the vaudeville act listed as 'consultants'.

You blindly support a Mfc 'process' (read 'confusion') you suggest has no specific idea of what its supposed to deliver.

AS, succinct as always! I would have thought the process should be fairly straightforward too. The list of available talent is well known. You only get rid of someone when you have a better replacement. We have obviously overlooked this very simple rule of human resource management; unless I've missed something. QueenC, what the club should be looking for is a potential premiership coach. Surely that is the ultimate objective of this whole "process".

Well, when you go out of your way pull out everything I actually said it would seem fairly "blind" wouldn't it.

Seriously what your problem? You have not come up with a suggestion just bitched about the process the club has put into place.

So let me try again, and I hate the tone of these discussions.

Of course the process should be simple and transparent to the best of their ability, and I said that, but obviously you chose to ignore it (didn't fit your personal criticism I guess). But in the end the club wants to hear from these people. Why? I can't answer that and neither can you, but what I am hoping (and if that is blind faith then so be it) is that the club makes the right decision for this massive role on the back of what this particular panel has to say.

Is that so difficult to understand?

And Warren I am with you on this completely and unashamedly......

But what I was trying to say (apparently not that well) is that the club must have some idea of what kind of person they believe will get them there.

And that all those many people involved, for one reason or another, must be deemed to have the knowledge, skill or experience (and I don't know the clubs criteria on the panel appointments) that the club thinks it needs on how to find that particular person which can get it and us to that ultimate objective.

But I do agree that there does seem to be a hell of a of them, and that that may unnecessarily complicate the process.

The club has appointed these people for a reason, we are looking for a coach, a coach that can win, and the club seems to believe that these people will be the ones who will find us that person. Are they the right people for this job? Which is what the current discord seems to be about, I honestly don't know (I don't know enough about the individuals involved apart from their public persona's), but in the end I hope so, which I guess makes me weak.

I am not condemning or applauding the appointments, its way to early for that, in my opinion.

Rubbish. You have obviously been sucked in by the process the club wishes to employ.

On a previous post reasoned my view for all the outsourcing. No one should have any more intimate knowledge of what this club needs than the current board. If they wish to solicit advice, keep it tight. I question the need to trawl.

They've had just on a decade to make an informed assessment. As leaders go, the current board doubt themselves.

Look Alan I think we are going to go in circles forever if we keep this up ;):) ......

I do agree that the large scale outsourcing being employed could well be unnecessary, and could overly complicate things that shouldn't be and definitely don't need to be. But this is what it is, for better or worse, and while I may get splinters I am going to reserve judgement until we know more, or until they come up with a decision, because that is what this panel will, and should, be judged on in the end.

I am not saying definitively that the process is the right one, or the wrong one. But it is the one, as I said, for better or worse.

And I just hope that we get exactly what this club needs, because of, or in spite of this excessive "process".

I hope that makes sense.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
