A Mackin

It's such a shame that Mackin got hurt, because her development across a handful of games pointed to a really good player in the future.

If Dees get two 1st round picks for Zanker, then we bundle it up with our own pick … offer 3 x first round picks to GC suns. Dees need to strongly push to get the number 1 pick.

Fox Footy reports …

“consensus is that Oakleigh Chargers ball magnet Chloe Bown is the No. 1 open pool prospect. A consistent, reliable on-baller with an incredible work ethic and ability to kick well on both feet, Bown had a near perfect draft year. She was crowned the best and fairest player of 2025 national championships and selected as All-Australian captain after steering Victoria Metro to back-to-back title wins. Her season was book-ended by a best on ground medal when representing the Australia Under 18 team against the All Stars in April and the Coates Talent League best and fairest award in September after averaging 29 disposals and six tackles per game”.

AFL site reporting Richmond the most likely to get the Number 1 pick from GC.

Saw this on the trade blog:

"Essendon holds a strong interest in Gold Coast's Claudia Whitfort as well, with the midfielder still weighing up her options as Carlton and Melbourne also chase her signature."

Whitfort (171cm, 26 yrs) played a few games for us back in 2018-2019 then went to the Suns via St Kilda. Has established herself as a solid midfielder though has has a few injury interrupted seasons of late. All-Australian and GC B&F in 2023.

any word on zanker going vs staying?

i'll be pretty disappointed if she goes to be honest

Sounds like she's off to Freemantle, nothing official yet though.

what is it with those purple blighters taking our players?!??

It’s now official. Edo is off to Freo. 💔

FREMANTLE has secured a blockbuster trade for Melbourne spearhead Eden Zanker.

The two clubs agreed a deal on Sunday that will see the Dockers land Zanker, young defender Lily Johnson, pick No.35 and a future fourth-round selection, with the Demons securing picks No.9, 27, 81 and a future second-round pick.

I'm not across the AFLW trade landscape as much as the mens but losing Zanker, Johnson and pick 35 for picks 9, 27, future 2nd and 81 sounds like massive unders. I would have thought Zanker alone would have been worthy of 2 first rounders.

You're right. We got shafted. 😠

Unrelated but I'm pretty sure Molly O'Hehir remains out of contract. Would be a huge blow to lose her. Fingers crossed we see a re-signing announcement soon.

i would have thought a first round pick was an automatic multi-year signing?

I suppose it depends on what Riley Sanders’ future plans are 🙄

pick 9 and shuffling of later picks is not a good deal for us. at all.

i'm very underwhelmed by this

It’s disgraceful. And on a selfish level I wish they had’ve waited until tomorrow to announce it. Our DA WhatsApp has been buzzing all day about what we’re wearing and hair n makeup etc. for tonight’s B&F. Now it’s done a complete 180 and it’s all about heartbreak at seeing Edo go. 💔😕

I agree. Seems well unders. Difficult to know how much negotiating leverage we had though considering she was out of contract. And if picks 9 and 16 get us into the conversation for pick 1 from Gold Coast it will have been worth it. We need to get access to top flight talent.

Pick 1 has already been traded to Richmond. We could make a play for their GC's now pick 4 as they would presumably still need points. Adelaide may end up with a stronger hand for that pick though.

Looks like she's off to Tassie...

Have to assume they have an agreement in place with another club to now on-trade picks to move up the pointy end of the draft.

Geez lets hope so.

I’m currently walking down Flinders Lane with Edo and Nikita on the way to the B&F and I’m even sadder now 😕

I was an early adopter, didn’t like her when she played for us 😂

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
