Farewell Christian Petracca

It’s a pity they couldn’t motivate each other the last 2 years to finish higher than 14th on the ladder.

I love the how the media is trying to construct the narrative that melbourne fans are writhing in pain watching clarry and trac and that the club letting them go is one of the worst player management decisions in the history of football.

In reality, all melbourne fans reading these articles who were sick and tired of their antics and half arsed efforts and are finally excited for a season:

The whole scenario should never have been allowed to grow, starting with player #29

Meanwhile Goodwin gets a cushy job at The Swans

So do we blame Darcy Moore for this? If trac didn't cop that injury would he still be with us? I mean we wouldn't have gone through all this scrutiny & trac wouldn't have gone through all that trauma.

But then maybe we still wouldn't have focused on improving his kicking.

If we still had Petracca, we wouldn't have Taylor, L.Pickett and whatever GC's 1st next year turns out to be, all of whom will be running around 10 years after Petracca has hung up the boots.

Goodwin is one of the most successful football people of the last three decades! What planet are you from with an insult regarding his worth to Sydney? Look up his AFL career, it’s not that difficult Mr Keyboard Warrior!

Left The MFC in a right mess Wayne…

Call him whatever you want, but It’s hard not to view a performance like that as incredibly damning of…whatever the hell was going on at the MFC for the last four years.

Which is why change finally happened last season. Better late than never I suppose.

Petracca's possessions in my opinion can be cut in half quite easily if Dangerfield had have been playing.

That’s not what your comment was about. You showed unnecessary contempt for his worth in his new role.

I don’t care what his new role is.

As Head Coach at The MFC he oversaw an absolute car crash over 3 years.

Walked away with a payout.

You are welcome to respect him Wayne, but I don’t, We got the same Press Conference for 3 years, whilst we recruited Senior Players who gave us nothing and our 2 Star Players couldn’t wait to get out…

That is Goodwin’s legacy after ‘21

You give BS a good name!

“Walked Away” - terminated

“Star Players couldn’t wait to get out” - Oliver wanted to stay

“I don’t care what his new role is” - Why did you mention it then?

Aside from the fact that I reckon you know. If I was cat coach and trac was getting many damaging 1 and 2nd qtr possessions in the square, Danger could have nullified that and been proactive as well.

Trac and Ollie could have had 20 possessions only each and they still would have been besties for Media Maggots.

Petracca may have been let down by the club but he was just as happy to let down his teammates. Oliver has been letting down his entire club for 3 plus years. I’ll be booing both of them with great gusto because that’s what I do to players who leave my team. As for McVee, he’s not worthy of a boo, more just a hiss.

When players move clubs, many (not all), have a high motivation to prove themselves to their peers, coaches and the football public. Obviously Trac - given his ego and desire to be a hall of famer - was very motivated.

Its frustrating that Trac was seemingly playing at 80% since he returned from his injury, and that the player we saw in the 2021 GF hasn't really re-emerged until Opening round 2026 for another club.

He wasn't going to be that player at the Dees in 2026, he also couldn't hit a target inside 50 and is not a defensively minded player - which made him something of a liability in a midfield alongside Oliver and Viney, which struggled with kicking skills or the foot speed/drive to run both ways.

Oliver was a culture killer as a loose cannon, but so was Trac as a massive ego. They both had to go - and we need to kove on.

Jack Steele's pre-season form suggests to me he will also he making St Kilda fans squirm, so these things go both ways.

We now have Kosi, Steele and Windsor lining up at the centre square this season, different but no less dynamic.

Can't wait for Round 1 so we can start talking about our players.

Don't know about that. But it's true he was up against a very mediocre midfield. Bigger tests are to come. That said, he's still an outstanding player, and in the short term at least, a very big loss.

No he wouldn't because he barely plays midfield anymore. Spends about 80% up forward now days.

Dangerfield does his best work as a marking tall now with the occasional bursts in the midfield.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
