Well at least its not the pies

Clarry will probably be serviceable for them. Or he could fall off the wagon again.

I have no doubt we got the best of him

A pity things went off the rails but ce la vie. whats done is done

i wish him the best

Shock, horror... oh myyyyy gaawwwwdd

Where did that come from ?? 🙄🥴

Good at what he does.

I post after his last game against the Pies that I thought he was getting back to his former self( 30 disposals at 86%) and that I would be gutted to lose him. I am gutted, but we move on.

I can understand the decision though- but the way we have handled it is a [censored] joke and if we get a future 3rd rounder for him and still pay half his wages then somebody else needs to get there marching orders.

Imagine a centre square with Tom Green, Finn Callahan and Clayton Oliver 🤤

Green and Oliver together wont work similar to how Viney and Oliver didnt work.

Loved him as a player, was unbelievable for us and dragged us over the line on so many occasions.

However, he and Trac were not only poor leaders, but were counterproductive to our development of younger players.

I am now a firm believer, strong system will beat superstar players on a disconnected team. We have a nucleus, but just need to build the system- which I’m confident that King can do.

We were never going to get the best out of Clarry or Trac again, comparing them to 2021 version is not fair. They might blossom at another club, but so be it.

Mark this trade period down as a positive for the clubs next 4 years. We will free up valuable $s and hopefully add some key pieces.

I love this club… this club! The members, fans and anyone wearing our jumper. Players who leave to me, regardless of status are always part of the story, but ultimately ex-players.

I largely sit here, but with sadness too.

It’s just an all round sad situation that we’re in.

All the data suggests not only that it did work, but it worked better than any other midfield duo in the Dees’ modern era. If Oliver is somewhere to at least his 2025 level the Giants will function fine.

It is what it is. Like a lot of people I have a soft spot for him and am sad to see him go. However, the club is bigger than any individual and anyone watching Claz these past couple of years can see that he's a shadow of his former self. Gazza was not going to help Rangers win our 10th league in a row all those years ago and Clarry isn't going to win us our next premiership. Onwards and upwards.

The best thing for Oliver and Melbourne. He's not been a force in the game since 2022, for a variety of reasons. This is his best chance to get back to somewhere near what he was. His first 150 games were amongst the best I've seen from any Melbourne player. His last 50 odd just poor to average. The reality is, he isn't what he was. The club needs to move forward. I'll always hold him in the highest regard for his 2016-2022 work. It ended how it probably should have two years ago, except that now we'll take a second or third rounder, instead of the first we would've got in 2023. All the best at the Giants, Clarry.

We have to turn the page. We saw this year that the team with Petracca and Oliver was no longer going to work. It’s painful, but it’s the new brigade’s team and that is indisputable to them now.

Hopefully they can rise to the occasion under King.

Shattered. One of my favourite players and one of our best. EVER. Whatever way this is spun, you can’t convince me whoever/whatever we’re going to get from this deal will equal what Clarry was, or what he could have been for us in 2026

I think the same for Trac. Together, losing both Trac and Oliver, generational talents who propelled us to our first premiership in a million years, and dragged us into relevance again after so many years in the doldrums.

I held out hope that it was all just noise and the media and Clarry feeling hurt and miscommunication and immaturity but that it would all come together.

A really sad day.

I’ll also add that throughout 2025 when Clayton repeatedly slammed the ball on to his boot directly to an opposition player, which often caught us on the rebound, I often said to myself that he might find the ball but he kills us when he does.

I need reminding of that. He was miles from a winning player this year.

Im talking about the last couple of years.

Our midfield got exposed in many ways because of the way the game was changing which was transitioning out of contest and contested footy to a more transitioning game.

No coincidence that at times our midfield function way better when Viney missed games because all of a sudden our midfield wasn't predicable with 3 plodders in Viney, Petracca and Oliver all in the same centre circle.

Once Viney came back in it threw our midfield structure completely out of wack and we got dominated once again.

The game is moving away from having big bulls in the midfield now days. You either have Green or Oliver in there at times.

Probably worth also stating that Simon Goodwin, Adam Kingsley ain’t..

There will be no Clarry kid gloves at GWS

While it’s sad how his career at MFC is ending it’s worth reflecting that, given his personal challenges, it could easily have never happened at all.

We got some things wrong at the end but we must have got a few things right at the start.

I know many here won’t agree but I’m very broken hearted about this one

Clarry holds a special place in my heart and I am incredibly sad that he won’t finish his career in red and blue

He isn’t perfect, in fact he’s a mess, but he’s our mess and I will always support him

I hope he is happy and healthy

Sad Studio Ghibli GIF

I fully get how some, as yourself, feel about this and Oliver.

I do agree about him being a mess. I can't concur that he's OUR mess. And that goes to the heart of the predicament. He's his own mess. He's an adult. ( according to some )

I know some won't agree with me ( that's novel ) and certainly won't concur these sentiments.

He's a very lucky lad. He is without doubt a very talented footballer. But he's a flawed genius in being so. If only half the tales are true then he's been the epitome of high maintenance. He's commanded a high coin. That of itself isn't a concern ( if returned in kind ) . His role is to play as team member not as some head billing star of a show. He owes it to his employer to do what's reasonably asked. The proper reaction to being asked to change his role is to comply if its within ability. If he thinks it isn't then he ought to think how he can and discuss concerns with his mentors and instructors.

This isn't something the club has set out to do. Over the years tge club, and fellow team mates, especially his captain have gone out of their way and way above duty to look out for a mate. That's commendable and really totally unecessary.

You have to wonder about the calibre of character that someone who you would think owes so much for chaperoning his career would return the favour by abandoning any moral debt and buggering off.

Some will.cry ... but... but.. but we forced him out. No we may have forced his hand but he , and only he is responsible for his decisions.

So whilst I certainly understand your position Jaded, indeed that of anyone who is essentially grieving I dont share it.

I really feel for the likes of Max .

Clarrys not perfect. Who among us is. I fervently hope anyone with problems gets the help they need but this doesn't in my view excuse his behaviour.

I'll miss the Clarry of old.... couldn't give a rats about the current version.

Funny you should say that because I've heard that's exactly what has been agreed to.

I wonder if he’s aware yet he’ll have to move out of his Camberwell house if he plays for GWS

On his wages, he can simply buy another house in Sydney.

Seems like gws only wants to hand over pick 35 in a trade for Oliver, I’d hope given that we aren’t paying the mooted 700k of his contract

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
