His manager basically said he wanted to come back to Victoria for family reasons. GC not allowing it this year. Humphrey will try again next off season and push harder for a club he'd want to play at (Hawks or Pies).

He’s not going to lose talent in 12 months and the best they’re getting for him now is our pick or spinning 7 and 8 with who’s future picks? Better to get offers next year from clubs with picks in hand.

Have to think some of the reluctance is Humphrey didn’t really want to join our sinking ship when Hawks and Pies can turn his head next year.

If they played their cards right they could have come out of this trade period with Petracca, their academy kids and a bunch of future picks to do as they please with. They'll get Petracca and their academy kids but they're going to have an unhappy asset playing even less midfield time than he did this year and they'll more than likely be dealing with better positioned clubs next year who will have less to offer than we have.

I don't see Humphrey having a break out year playing behind Rowell, Anderson, Miller and now Petracca.

Not sure if you heard his manager just then but based off that interview Humphrey clearly wants out and was more than happy to come to us this year.

If Bailey genuinely wanted to get to Melbourne I'd say it would be getting done, my gut feel is he doesn't want to come to the Dees, still wants to come back to Victoria but just not to Melbourne. I'd bet that if hawthorn or Collingwood genuinely wanted him and had equal collateral for a trade it would be getting done, not enough noise publicly from Bailey, ie like Curnow, Petracca, Merret, Oliver, Flanders etc to satisfy Gold Coast that he is actually serious, they know they will get Trac either way, of course they are going to stay firm on keeping him. We aren't a destination club for young guns, only for a top up in retirement fund players.

I don’t see how it isn’t obvious he wants to play for us. His manager in not so many words said as such.

The fact he wants to come to Melbourne and not club X adds more weight to the request.

So why are they not doing that?

I take this as ...he wants a deal, but GC don't wanna deal and have gone into hiding other than a 'we're concerned about ya mate, what can we do to help?" phone call from Dimma.

GC also want to deal with us for Tracc but not inc. BH.

BH says to Manager "stuff this i want out im gonna go see what other Vics are offering whether they like it or not".

Manager says "i don't think they'll budge but up to you, just keep it under wraps and don't be seen while you're down there as i don't wanna look like a donk when i say you aren't looking around".

BH goes to Vic and gets spotted (with us).

Manager tries to back out, effectively siding more with GC.

BH .... if he has a brain, sacks Manager and apponts someone who's willing to get the deal done (Trump!??). His alternative is to stay with exisiting incompetant manager (for now) and remain unhappy for next 12 mths.

Question... is it viable to offer Tracc for Pick 7 and BH (ie, drop the second pick)

Where has anyone outside of demonland said that Bailey Humphrey wants to play for Melbourne? I wish it was different Danny but I just think if he come out and said I want to be traded to Melbourne they are my club of choice things would look a bit different.

Mass performance reviews spike in the first half of October strongly correlated with barracking for Melbourne and specifically visiting Demonland.

How many other clubs can say they’ve met with BH twice (him coming to see us, not the other way around) and he’s had a medical?

I took as a last chance of saying let this kid go. We wanted them to go public. That’s what they’ve done!

Its everything short of coming out an requesting a trade. Which tells me a lot about his character. He still respects the GCS and doesnt want to [censored] on that relationship.

He is everything the opposite of Trac. And whilst we failed to acquire BH, there is a positive that the 'The Brand' is highly unlikely to be at the club next year. We all need to move on and pray that picks 7 and 8 land us solid players. They are unlikely to be superstars, but hopefully we can get some serviceable players of the 200 game variety.

What? Trade Radio is over for the day? Just when I was getting the hang of it.

JK I still legit have nfi what I just listened to

Assume this time next year Collingwood have managed to trade out De Goey and made plans to replace them him with BH.

I still have absolute blind faith this gets done, the longer we hold out on them for trac the closer we get to them folding. The interview did absolutely no favours to the suns.

Well let’s hold petracca and we can do this dance all over again in 12 months and try again to swap tracc for Humphrey.

Petracca didn't request a trade last year either. In fact I'd go as far as saying that Humphrey's agitating this season is pretty much identical to how Petracca handled last year, except Petracca wasn't making social media posts about it.

He did request a trade this year after the club gave him permission to explore his options. You just like Humphrey more because he's happy to play for Melbourne while Petracca no longer does.

Yes but like Merrett, another year older and value goes down while BH value possibly goes up

We need to pull the pin on the trade and walk away

its the only way to force this move now

worst comes to worst we can get back to the table and accept the picks. no downside

Perhaps a middle ground is that we accept picks 7 and 8 for Trac, don't provide GCS with the required picks to secure both of their academy players, they draft one and we draft the other, and then in 12 months time see if us/GCS want to do a trade involving Humphrey for their academy pick. BOOM!

Ahh no, if we pretend to pull the pin and then come crawling back Gold Coast would offer us an even worse deal.

bad for us, but good on Cammeron for holding firm on a very promising talent.

I was expecting to hear a complete buffoon.

Maybe I'm naive, but that was an excellent interview. He sounds like a bloke you'd want in your corner as a professional footballer. I feel there's a fury simmering beneath the surface.

Very unlikely to happen now, but I think a few people who came onto this thread to swagger around and assure everyone they were fools for thinking this was anything other than a mirage look a bit silly now.

what's stopping them from offering a worse deal now

GC have multiple academy picks, they roll definitely get the top 3 in

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
