My understanding was that the exit meetings were held in the last week of August? This chimes with our earlier delistings.

Accept your explanation of course, though across the AFL all the exit meetings for teams not in finals seem to have been held in that week in August. Not sure why May's would have been delayed?

Idk why his was delayed. I just know that it was delayed and that it took place yesterday morning.

I'm just asking as I find the idea .."odd"

How does 'someone' accidentally LEAK something...and to the 'wrong people' ??

I do have sympathy for May. Must be a kick in the gut.

Really interesting, given there was media coverage around the CBA requirement that clubs release their players by the first Wednesday after their season ends (what with the GC v Essendon delayed game).

We must have received an exemption, or this was a “second” exit meeting or something.

Do you know if anyone else's was delayed?

Presumably though, if they're being delayed it's because the club is/has been considering their list/contract status. Surely there's no other reason. Perhaps the May decision was held over till we had clarity on Mihocek, Adams, Derkson and potential movement in those areas - apparently there were clubs sniffing around Adams, so we may have promised him more game time.

Apparently he wasn’t the only one whose meeting was delayed. But also, it’s not that clear cut… some players (Fritta for example) were told on day one of exit meetings they’re a required player (along with other definitive statements) and that was it. I’m guessing not all exits were so cut and dried.

100% agree.

But I think a key factor to support Adams to thrive is Petty going back and taking the oppo's best key forward freeing Adams up to play Lever's zone off interceptor role.

Adams is an excellent kick, better than Lever, so if we can get him intercepting around the half back line and settimg up transition chains.

Yep, Petty at full back, Adams as the Petty of 2021 second tall, and Turner the Lever-like interceptor who can join in quickly on offence and is cat-like at ground level.

So if the three key backs are say Adams, Petty and Lever, does that mean Turner (who i rate as our best key back and key forward prospect) goes forward again?

No Lever for mine. He becomes depth like TMac.

Of course, the FD may see this differently, but this would be my 2026 defensive team if given the powers.

Knowing our trading success not only won’t we attract a Flanders type but we won’t be able to give away a Premiership FB either. So Melbourne. I’m in my negative about the club phase watching Prelims like these again!!

Why didn’t Goody ever try May as a FF? We’ll never know if this could have worked, damn it.

How is not being able to give away a Premiership FB so Melbourne he’s the only one we’ve had in 57 years,

And then those "wrong people" leak it to Tom Morris? Are the "wrong people" our leakers? How was May OK with the leak? Was there a second shooter? Will our boy sign next week?

All this and more, next time on MFC uncovered.

Yep he has looked great at FF a few times I’ve seen him..unbelievable really it was never tried again

Tmac was asked to find a club as well a few years back ... isn't gone yet and MAY still play FF

The key is how the responds. Tmac took it as a drive to win his place back. May as a big burly gf may work. It would negate his speed drop off. I guess we’ll see if we get any offers.

My guess, they wanted to check in with the new coach first and see if Kingy saw him as a key to the team going forward

Some people just have no idea how to keep their bloody mouths shut when they're in possession of confidential information.

It ain't that hard. Just say nothing.

Actually TMac may fit into the same argument

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
