Is this yet more evidence that the whole club was full on "We're about to make the top four again, baby!"?

Sorry to be cynical, but this whole idea that Goodwin should feel hard done by because he was realistic about our chances of making finals while other decision-makers were over-optimistic fools doesn't ring true to me.

Completely agree. Go back and listen to Tim Lamb speak after the trade period last year. Go back and read Green's letter after the review. The whole club was of the belief that we would bounce back this year. No one was ever sold the idea that 2025 was a development year.

Are the Dogs actually pursuing May? Nothing in the articles suggest so.

I didn't think TMac would re-sign for 2026 (although I was hoping he would, because he has been good, often v good).

Maybe there is something to the May talk, and that has motivated TMac to hang around another year. I doubt we would give up Lever AND May - but if May were to leave, and knowing that Lever has not been able to stay on the park (fit) for sustained periods of late, we would need experience in the backline. Petty, Disco, Jed (?? - wish we had seen him) etc are good, but will benefit from guys like Tmac.

There is undoubtedly a lot that goes on in the background. Iceberg scenario like... we only see the bit out in the open ( mostly )

Players will be talking with...players.. talking with club, talking with managers, even family ( and friends ) It's not a static world.

For anyone still wondering, the “more than likely” gone quote is click bait. The actual quote from the article is:

While he’s contracted for 2026 at Melbourne, it’s more than likely he will be a victim of a list shake-up under the new incoming coach given there will be a thirst for change and May has enough crosses next to his name to be an easy cut.”

Just speculation from the journalist, Scott Gullan.

I dont understand the hate on May. its everywhere in the media (abeit indirectly). He has said a couple of stupid things, but to me that is his character and i think we need more hard nuts in this team.

His body is really letting him down and i wonder if it is down to bad genes or bad preparation. You just have to watch him move in 2021, 2022. It is night and day different to how he moves now. I think his lacking confidence, fumbles etc is all due to him knowing that he cannot move like he used to.

I think the Dogs would be silly to trade for him - he will retire end of next year and i would even suggest he would not be getting much game time next year.

Put him at full forward!

Id like to have seen that but has that bus left the depot ( now ) ?

The Pups are more than likely to just dip out on September. Do they think theyre in the frame for next couple of seasons ??

If yes... they might 🤔 think a veteran full back worth the punt esp as they've noted ( somewhere) that their defence isn't what they'd like it to be.

Will they roll the 🎲🎲

Dogs defence has been an issue for at least the last three seasons. They will be desperate to do something during the trade period. If we can get May off the books go for it. Petty down back and life goes on

Exit interviews are underway as we speak.

I guess we’ll all know soon enough who’s going/staying.

The whirlwind nature of exit interviews....fitting day for it. Turbulent times.

I reckon contracted players will have to wait until there is a new coach. Some may want out and be told no by the new coach, and some might want to stay and be given their marching orders anyway.

And I don't think we will delist anyone officially until Casey's campaign is done.

No doubt there will be lots of noise coming out of the meetings tho. There always is.

Can you see a soccer ball in the room through that window Ghosty? These exit interviews are a different version of a "flush run".

Always been curious as to why exit interviews happen the day after a big booze up.

" How do you rate your season Riv?"

"Do you mind popping a couple of Beroccas in my water before i answer that boss?"

Wadda you reckon????

A really tough one to assess the trade value of. You don’t just give away a guy who’s been a star player or a leader but given his age. Who knows.

Through the window?! I’m a ghost ffs. I could be sitting at the table and no one would know.

JUH is done. Bloke won't even turn up to training. Wouldn't be going anywhere near him.

It'd be a rerun of Jesse Hogan going to Freo.

Our leaks aren't as bad as first thought if we don't know already.

is this for the boys playing out the finals with casey too or just the ones who are done for the year? are we likely to get any sort of departure statements this week or not until we bow out of the vfl?

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
