Is this really the best the AFL can do?

How much will this jack up already outrageously expensive tix?

And what's with the obsession of oseas acts, always,?

We have the best bands in the world in Oz.

Support them.

Time to grow up AFL.

We will never sell our sport oseas so give it up.

Agree, think it's also a good time to pay respect to our AFL journalists. I found the perfect song by an Australian band incidentally.

Who is it? I never understand the need for half time entertainment. Just let the little leaguers play or gave the sprint. Let people socialise & communicate with each other

Can this thread just be stickied so we don’t have the same thread started up every 12 months?

I guess it depends on the act though.

Maybe your rightly assuming the trend will continue.

Do we need entertainment?

What about a magic act?

It's really a duplicate of the Superbowl.

Let's do something different?

A celebration of the game or the country or anything but overpaid hyped up oseas acts that use every pyrotechnic and stunt to distract from the rubbish music they make.

How about a montage of the greatest marks...goals...tackles...plays...... That's the next four years and cheap as chips

Maybe a local band to accompany it.

A celebration of Oz sporting events could cover the next four to eight.

Followed by the worst umpire calls and then some heroes of the country for a couple of years in different avenues.

There that's the next 15 covered.

Rinse and repeat and you have 30 years for next to the cost of a few beers at the footy.

Goodbye overseas homophobic hacks.... hello reduced tix costs and better entertainment.

Problem solved.

Let's face it.......those stuck at the game line up to buy beer and food for 25 mins during the acts and those at home go out and do a hammy or acl by playing kick to kick in the backyard or street, with a belly full of beer.

Monday after gf day is a goldmine for gps, surgeons and physios.

Anyway I'm ok with music acts but why keep importing them? It smacks of insecurity and bad taste.

And even if the older folks in the Afl have to pick a band from the 70s or 80s, there are some great oz ones for sure.

Per Capita, we punch way above our musical weight.

And I get the problem of this thread raising it's ugly head each year but maybe it should do.

I'm tired of swift...Williams... Perry..bla bla bla

If they could raise the dead they would probably bring back the Eagles.

It's the AFL.

Hoping or wishing for them to behave a certain way is a futile exercise.

I'm very much for the idea of local acts on Grand Final day, I think it's a great one. But where are all the local talent spruikers when it comes to attending their gigs? The best way to support an up and coming band is to go and see that band.

The Eagles are dead?? I thought they were still touring.

I remember attending a final during the 80s at the MCG and half time a bloke come out with 3-4 dogs and some frisbees.
Tell ya what watching those mutts take off and launch for those frisbees 6-7ft in the air was highly entertaining.
Crowd loved it.

Also always enjoyed the kicking competitions where the superboots from the local leagues spent the break dropping 65m torps.

I’d like to see a ‘Battle of the Bands’ type of arrangement, that runs through the home and away season at venues around the country, with the eventual winner being given the GF entertainment spot, as well as a recording contract and a substantial payment for their appearance. The overall cost would be a fraction of what the AFL currently spends.

Whoever appears as the GF entertainment is not going to attract punters, as the match is a full house regardless; so what does it matter who is appearing… why not give up and coming talent an opportunity to step up!

I'm not sure if your taking the p177 but that's one of the funniest posts I think I've read.

They've been dead for eons. Just that nobody has been bold enough to tell them.

Make no mistake.
85 thousand people roaring for a dog taking a speccy is something to behold.
Had to be there I guess.

Was better than anything the AFL have come up with since.

I didn't believe you at first but you've kept it up long enough.. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm going to stop calling Maynard a dog.

Ha ha ha

Thanks heaps Forkem.

I loved it.

That border Collie was excellent.

But Sailor (looked lke a different dog) if not under contract would be great addition to give us some speed and momentum out of our back line.

Is there some kind of rule of thumb as to when a band ceases to be "that band" and becomes a cover band.

Deep Purple are touring Asia. are there any original members left. Wikipedia says they're up to Version 9 but it was too long an entry for me to trace through.

Elton John at the Singapore F1 this weekend. Why not but surely it's time he hung up his Dame Edna like glasses

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
