Is there a possibility that May, Clarrie & Trac all end up in Demon colours next season?

May can't find a new home (almost certainly because of the $800k asking price)

The whole league knows about Oliver's troubles. He's high risk (and costly) However, if the club is happy to take unders, he could find a new home. But again, Lamb keeps saying that we need good value back

As for Petracca, Lamb also seems to be serious about getting back very good value in a trade (and that may not happen)

So maybe Oliver to go but not sure on the other two

I can 100% confirm the Walter thing. The suns have been trying to extend him for months and have offered 3 different variations of an offer that he’s been totally unwilling to sign to date

I’m not sure if someone is in his ear or if it’s about game time but the suns are desperate to sign him and haven’t been able to so far

What’s a bet he ends up at Brisbane.

It was a team wrecker this year and I'd put in Goody there as well.these guys need to go for the club to get stable and move forward

Yeah, all that stuff is well documented and has been freely discussed

But the trades still need to go through ... much will depend on whether the club is serious with regards to wanting good value back for Oliver & Petracca

My reckoning is that the trades will go through if we accept unders (except for May, who looks like he is back in the fold (no suitors?))

And the club needs to be careful about supporter backlash ... paying Collingwood $3.5Million and receiving a 3rd round pick for Oliver would not go down well (at all)

We're already getting smacked in the membership stakes, don't give the supporters another reason to withhold their cash

Sounds like Petracca and Oliver deals will get done eventually but May probably the likely chance he stays.

I've got no doubt that Clarrie & Trac will be gone if the club accepts unders

But the way Lamb is talking, accepting unders is not on the agenda. In fact, Lamb wants top value coming back for both players

Unless of course, he's just grandstanding. Who knows?

Interesting that May slips back with very little fanfare. All that yap, but he'll probably suit up in the seniors in round 1 (or round zero)

Not for a bag of chips! 2 premiership players , AA & B&Fs , In particular Trac

Declaring our hand with regards to the $750k* subsidy for Oliver (per annum for 5 years) looks desperate and quite frankly, rather embarrassing

Keep your cards close to your chest and don't ever weaken your bargaining power

The other clubs are now knowing that they don't have to offer much to get him across the line

It's not like Oliver has forgotten how to play top level football ... he just needs to be told some home truths

He should have spent a month at Casey to bring him into line. If that doesn't work, give him another month

Goodwin benched him early in the season but that was a soft-feathered approach (and 2 years too late)

*The club hasn't denied the $750k figure

Of course he's grandstanding. Every List Manager from every club is grandstanding.

At least in public.

Agree, most deals/trades, are eventually done.

Old mate @bing181 who is running the same line as you that it's impossible for Petracca to remain at the club said he'd be traded for a F2 if we didn't say we wanted a fair price.

No I didn't.

He will in fact be traded for a fair price. It's just that that fair price may not align with some of the fantasyland trades floated here.

FWIW, I imagine it will be a first round pick with perhaps some shuffling lower down. But whatever it is, the deal will get done.

Absolutely. It's a high-stakes game of chicken, with our premiership superstars being dangled out the window to "turn heads". Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if ALL these three greats return, somewhat chastened - to the demon fold for a "fresh start".

At the end of the day, it's the only way to prise back some of the Victorian players from the Nepo baby clubs. StKilda and Carlton (Curnow) are doing the same thing in their own ways.

Some talk North comes late for May at basically a give away trade.

I do admit the amount of membership I buy is entirely linked to the totality of trade results.

Funny isn't how many preloaded their assessments and dissatisfaction with how things are going. The lack of any real understanding is strong in many.

Fair Market 'Price' . Markets are a fluid interactive beast . Anything, and i mean anything is only worth what any 2 parties can and will agree to. Perceived Price, well thats the 'other' beast. Invariably the PP is where those 2 parties start as they are Invariably different for the two. Sometimes they CAN be close. Often not.

The Market. Is it a buyers or a sellers market ? That will depend often on the amount of traffic and in which direction. Here we are seeing , at Melb, players seemingly shown the door and another doing it on own accord. You want them gone .... Price goes down.

The volatility and tempo of the market. Unlike an open market with no date parameters, the AFL 🎪🤡🎪 occurs between set days. This may add impetus but it can also muddy things.

Dependence/Non-Dependence. Are particular deals reliant upon other deals and therefore other 'perceived' valuations . Is deal independent and self standing. Is the deal even a deal or just a movement .

Add into all of this are the dealers open to haggling or notoriously steadfast.

It's been the observation of this curious spectator that every trade period tends to create its own momentum and tempo. It nearly always pivots upon one or two 'big' trades. Rarely is anything of any significance done early. Rarely.

Most constructions require a vision of the resultant build and a plan to achieve it. The actual build starts with clearing/demolition.. followed by groundwork and foundations. This can often be the longest part ( foundations) . Once established what follows tends to happen quite quickly.

Many trades WILL happen. Some won't and then scuttle those reliant upon them.

As they are oft to say Rome wasn't built in a day.

It's now ONLY day 2 of the Circus .

Still a bit of water to go under bridges.

Again it's day 2

The market is the 🎪 is the market.

It will be whatever clubs need it to be to allow them to move forward. It ISNT about making fans happy or all warm and fuzzy.

The 🎪 can be brutal.

Where the AFL trade market DOES differ from many other commodities bazaars is that the Players have voice. Some are louder than others.

Enjoy day 2

That's right.

Trade Week is about Teams looking to get from A to B . It's not about taking in the scenery ( maybe a 🛥 cruise .. ) or other pleasantries really it's ALL about realising goals. It's a bit akin to a tornado with all its accompanying collateral damage.

A to B

Melbourne's B doesn't have Petracca,Oliver nor May ..... ideally

The path to B is whatever it needs to B

There is always tension between a motivated seller and a reluctant buyer. That is where value is established. The success or failure of a deal is not what a third party (i.e. Demonland posters) sees.

Well May looks like he has been accepted back into the fold so there's that. No suitors by the looks of it

Could not the same outcome be forthcoming for Oliver & Petracca if suitable trades not eventuate?

I still reckon the biggest issue is the length of contracts, salary amounts and the strong perception that we want to get rid of them because they are damaged goods and/or disruptive influences

Other clubs will want them cheap but will we accept unders?

The minute anyone from the club says that we want him gone, we’ll be lucky to get a future 2nd rounder.

That's far more fantasyland than anything involving Humphrey or Walter.

If we're looking at a possible pick trade for Trac, i.e. Picks 6 & 7, are any of next years free agents worth targeting with these picks? I.e. Port getting the best deal now for an inevitable Butters departure?

Any word, as we'd be negligent if we weren't sussing the possibility?

You have to convince the player to come first. Most of that is done months in advance, not in a couple of days during trade week (and a half).

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
