Bloody hell I come on this thread to read about our next coach and I’m getting schooled on how ANB is playing and other non related coaching stuff.

CAN WE PLS STICK TO THE TOPIC!!

reckon he could be a coach in years to come...

Did we get a new coach yet?

No but we have identified a potential recruit from Adelaide. Assuming he doesn’t agree terms with St Kilda first…

I'm going to rattle off some stats that I'm not mad on, but I'm not sure how to better differentiate Neale-Bullen's 2025 to previous years.

His kicking efficiency percentage is at about career average, his disposal efficiency is within a point or so of his career average and was better last year, his clanger rate is the same.

I accept you've noticed a few more dynamic plays, but, in reality, he's the same footballer he's always been.

True. Thr only difference is he's playing in a team playing well. Did plenty of 'dynamic' things at Melbourne.

I thought everyone interviewed today and yesterday?

Doesn’t want to be overlooked twice?

I appreciate the process but it might be time to just get it done with Buckley.

Best mates with Goodwin. Always seemed like it might be a bit of a conflict.

4 yesterday and another today. I presume Skipworth was supposed to interview today but pulled out.

Perhaps he's heard something ... but who knows.

Surely if Buckley wants it it's his, from what I've read Skipworth seemed to be the most highly rated of the other contenders.

You also wonder how many of the current assistant candidates are using this as a dry run, knowing that they have little chance.

Poor sod slept in. We've all been there.

only reason for skipworth to pull out is he doesn’t think he can get the job. Last year he was ready to move across the country to coach a far worse team that’s now applying for priority picks and just won 1 game and lost their captain

My initial thought as.. hes either heard something or been tapped on the shoulder from an insider at Collingwood with links still to Buckley.

Bizarre to have an interview lined up but then pull out at the last minute

Agree with other posters here - reckon he’s got a sense that for whatever reason he’s not likely to get the job and pulled out

No shame in that, but if you were wanting to coach West Coast of all teams there’s no way you wouldn’t have wanted to coach us too

I do wonder what's going on behind the scenes here with Pert. Presumably Buckley has picked his brains, and Pert would know all there is to know about the club, list, board etc. etc. If Buckley is in it, you'd think that Pert has had some kind of role in that decision?

But then outside of Buckley, would Pert have been in contact with other candidates as well, and if so ... ???

At the moment it just looks like many don't want a bar of us! Seems a bit of an odd process.

It’s 1 of 3 things (IMO)

  1. The job is still Buckleys and he knows and not wasting time during finals to prepare

  2. He was never happy having to prepare during finals. (Not the only one - Daly wasn’t happy about this either)

  3. We’re not worth it

Hmm. It's too early for the only ex senior coaches who might have been candidates, then a couple of the leading assistants seem to feel that they have a better chance staying where they are (e.g. Danny Daly). Apart from that, most of the assistants-who-could-be-coaches are in the process or have been eliminated from it.

You can't blame these guys really when we are honest with ourselves and where we are at on & off field lately.

Whatever spin is put on this, it's not a good look when so many dont want to go through the process. There are only 18 jobs at this level and if your a serious aspirant you need to have a crack. Don't waste the clubs time by pulling out so late. It's not a good look for Skipworth.

Good. We don't want anyone from Collingwood anyway. Oh, wait a second.........

Quite liked his responses, shut down the questions, stuck to his guns, clearly has a plan and won’t be going away from that.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
