In a world first Harry Sharp is sub

Let’s hope Culley isn’t consigned to a slow death at half forward but actually gets to play some midfield minutes.

I can count the crowd on two hands. It’s not looking good. Lucky to crack 10k.

Lucky to get 10k. Looks busier on the bottom and second level than it actually is because of the top deck being closed.

Reminds me of a NAB cup game they used to have in the 2000’s at Marvel where you’d get 6k and the top deck’s closed.

Crowd will be under 10k. Looked way more full when we got 8k vs GWS.

There are about 8 people here…

Two men and a dog…..

The 27 people here all got squashed together for some mind boggling reason.

Ticket allocation must be managed by selection committee.

Jai Culley is a big unit

He’s taller than JvR which is funny to me

Listening on SEN and they can’t get over how grim the crowd and atmosphere is

If the players come out and deliver 4 quarters and a 60-70 point win, will that also be telling? i.e he hasn't lost the players, and that they were all embarrassed last week and decided to make amends?

Cos I suspect the media will make the MFC the whipping boys out of this game regardless of the outcome,
We lose and Goodwin's fate could be sealed,
We win < 30pts and it's a poor effort against a poor team
Win by a big margin and it will still be about how we choked last weekend.

Still contend that the first 3Q of last week were some of the better quarters we have played this season, all undone by 25 minutes of madness though :(

25 mins of madness or... Sadness?

There's a surprise Petty forward, Disco back.

All three of them look pensive

My only guess is that shutting the top level saves money. But also I reckon it's better for the atmosphere anyway if we are all bundled together if the crowd is small. Reminds me of when we'd play random home games at Optus Oval and all be grouped together behind the goals.

What do people expect? Surely no one expected a massive crowd especially after last week

I wonder which Eagles player will Kent Kingsley us today? There’s always one unfortunately.

Hope Culley cuts loose today.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
