Defenders never have high tackle counts, not a single defender in the top 50 for tackles in the league

You are correct with this statement.

But I took that into account with these blokes who have the least.

A good defender like Bowey averages just under 3 per game.

The ones I mentioned have around one.

I think our backline has gone backwards so to speak the last two years a part of it has been less chasing and tackling

We don't seem to put opposition fwds under as much duress like we used too.

It's something we have lacked up fwd this year with Fritta being a big offender. He's lifted a lot and it's impacted the rest of his game.

It may seem like a small things but it's the basics that need to be done when your down.

Look at the lack of forward pressure there was v saints in the last.

The Eagles will be stoked with the way they played during the second half of that quarter.

We look so lackadaisical

Pretty much going to script so far. A 4 goal win over this team will do absolutely nothing to benefit the club going forward.

Salem and Gawn have been great. That’s about it.

Kosi doesn’t seem interested, Trac looks petrified of contact, and Fritsch is playing like a millionaire. Sparrow needs to go to Specsavers.

I want a 10 goal win or a loss. This [censored] serves no purpose.

Inbred Bigfooty (Collingwood) trying to insinuate clapping Melksham for ending McGovern is hypocritical because it is the same as that scum concussing Brayshaw. 🤡

Our disposal inside 50 continues to let us down.

We should've buried West Coast by now but we've given them a sniff.

In the first 15 minutes maybe but we have been shocking in every part of the ground since then. We have struggled to efficiently get it passed the centre.

I said last week I couldn't see Goodwin coming back from that loss. I reflected a lot over the week and thought he could still bounce back, and that a comfortable, strong win against a poor team would be great to kick-start something to end the year. Even if we win by 10 goals today, I have seen enough.

I am so sad and just resigned to the fact that we are witnessing his last few games as coach. He has been our best coach since Norm Smith and yet weirdly also our most disappointing.

Finally got in. The crowd is bigger than I thought

Did you think the crowd would be 10 people?

this is why Goodwin needs to go.

Who gives a proverbial if we win or lose. It's the gameplan and ours doesn't work

My footy knowledge isn’t the best, but from watching the bulldogs/hawks/crows, I’m not seeing a similar style of angling through the corridor and gut running to create space?

It’s just been the same kick it down the line on that one wing to a contest? Which is what we’ve been doing for years.

I don’t get it. We looked different earlier in the year and I could see a difference, we were at least looking in board. That’s seems gone

Northy was the best since Smithy

McVee, Salem and Howes simply don't apply anywhere near enough tackles.

Every week Viney has more than those three combined.

Why is he always tackling thou

Our field kicking and delivery inside 50 has been woeful as always.

Staggers me how one team can have so many poor ball users, it really is a blight on our recruitment.

In positive news I’ve managed to clear my work emails while watching this snorefest.

That’s a strange but accurate take.

Beveridge also in the same camp but to a lesser extent.

If only Roo could hold some.more marks

He gets to the contest. Leaps and contests well but they just don't stick

He's also a decent kick at goal. He's strong and athletic but this is a massive issue in his game and one that will probably see him go the way of Sam Weideman if he can't change it.

On the otherhand if he does solve it he could be a very reliable forward.

Not to the degree we were all hoping but a good one nonetheless.

Here's still hoping.

Petty with six touches and a goal has met his game quota in only a half and his best game for the year. But that's not exciting ,unfortunately . Just nice to say something positive about him for a change. Apart from the fact he's one of our best defenders.

Max..still a superstar of the game.

If the league is serious about duty of care and head contact, Ryan should be looked at. Was late and not impacting the contest. The fact he made the contact with his own head shouldn’t come into consideration.

worst game i have seen all year ,they are bad but we are worse.Tracc and Oli a mil$a year and dont chase or try

Can you name a decent defender that averages 3+ tackles?

IMO it's got much more to do with our untidy disposal exiting d50.

That first half would be the worst footy I have seen all year. We deserve to be where we are at as there is no system at all and when we are free, we just turn it over. JVR needs to get rid of those concrete hands or just stop playing footy as he looks way below the standard. Same with Petty.

I suppose we have a half to get better.

Utterly delusional.

Petty & JVR are both shocking as forwards. Goodwin should have played Jeffo / Kentfield or Johnson. Sack the coach tonight.

They certainly cost us a lot.

1st half

V eagles with 6/7 key players out and on the bottom with one win

Gawn 👏👏

Rivers 👏

Salem 👏

43-21 (dees led at 15minute mark … 41-8)

Terrible match . Horrible !!

X Missed tackles. Names? Chandler. Petracca. Windsor. Culley. Langdon

X let Maric run loose / 15 possessions

X Gawn handball to … eagles player!!!

X fumbles and errors Petracca Kozzzy

X kozzzy disinterested and turnovers 40% disposal efficiency

X go wide go wide go wide … kick to the boundary line

X stop and prop and stop and kick to … out on the full - Tmcd and Rivers

X JVR it’s a no he falls over he doesn’t lead up He wrestles Just not a smart footballer Really nice young man !

Both little league matches in front of me are 5v4 with one side getting flogged. Red team has more players in one game and blue in the other.

It's like watching our 666 debacle from last weekend all over again.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
