Think you are missing the point - which is that Kolt has been woefully mismanaged this year.

He was rushed into the firsts with no form & not much fitness.

He should have spent a month at Casey building up both.

This is a dreadful way to manage a young player.

Lindsay & Windsor & McVee have also been poorly managed this year.

Anything related to management is not what I was responding to.

It’s silly to write someone off who’s had two years in the system and one has been marred by an interrupted pre season.

Likewise it’s ok to admit that Kolt isn’t being helped playing seniors right now. He is barely getting the ball, and when he does get it, he isn’t using it well.

I don’t think he’d be thinking he’s performing well himself, and to keep rewarding him with games at this level where he’s often subbed off, is a bit silly.

It also makes a mockery of guys like Laurie who are consistently performing at Casey and knocking the door down each and every week.

For his sake I hope he goes back to Casey and gets to play some midfield minutes for the rest of the year. Get his hands on the footy and set himself up for a massive pre season.

Jordon always had two weapons and everyone knew about them. He could kick it 50 metres and he could run all day. That wasn't so valuable on the MCG when teams just set a man down the line on his wing, but is much more important at the SCG which has 10 fewer metres at each end.

Sydney saw his attributes and decided he could be a contributor. That's what good scouting is.

Bedford told us he wanted to leave, he had plenty of admirers at MFC. He was a victim of the 2022 "let's never, ever rotate a Premiership player, even if they can barely run they're so tired/injured" policy.

I'm not writing him off, I would like him to play out the season but I'm really struggling to see much to get excited about.

Like Windsor has had a poor season but I know exactly what kind of player he can turn into.

With Kolt I'm just not sure what sort of player he will be in 5 years time. What seperates him from Taj Woewodin, Bailey Laurie or Kynan Brown?

I’m with you in that I’m not sure what type of player Kolt can be. His attributes don’t jump out at me like with say Windsor having elite speed and endurance and a neat kick.

Or Langford who is a physical beast but with time and poise and beautiful decision making and ball use. Or Lindsay who has time and space whenever he gets the ball.

I know Kolt is rated highly for his attitude and that’s a very important trait, but it’s not enough right now. I think half forward is a useless position for a kid trying to get his hands dirty, and he’d be better off going to Casey and playing mid/wing or even half back. Get the ball in his hands and get him some confidence.

Rotting at half forward and getting 2 touches before being subbed off is not exactly progressing him in the right direction.

He is loyal, cares so much about the club and wants to do well. Apparently they're the traits he has according to what the learned footy observers tell me. How dare we even question that.

Tholstrup is a bust, cut him loose. Windsor is playing back because they want him to learn defence. McVee has gone backwards, couldnt care less if he left, hope he does. Lindsay will be a player.

Kolt hasn't shown much buts its clear that he's being treated differently to KBrown and BLaurie

The ANB hate for YEARS on this forum was staggering and all pervasive. No one seems to ever mention that once he finally tidied his disposal.

Some recruiting decisions and trades seem a busy in hindsight when unforseen events change the structure and dynamic being planned around, like:

Jackson leaving

Trading Harmes and then losing Brayshaw due to thuggery and then Jordan who was good depth.

Thol is playing the hardest position in the game and a particularly hard one in a side like ours. Sparrow also struggles in this role.

Marks are hard to come by, turnovers aren't our strength some games but if he can run in and apply defensive pressure and crum he may shine.

Similar body shape but I can’t see many more similarities. Rayner always had X Factor (including being very strong in the air) albeit inconsistent.

Kolt is more ‘meat and potatoes + tryer’ than X Factor, which is why people lean towards an ANB comparison (I think)

To those who keep on saying Jeffo shows more and is better than Kolt... just remember Jeffo has had an extra year on Kolt, had a preseason, and yet is not a complete player still (which is not unusual for young talls). If you can give Jeffo time, then you can give Kolt time to recover and then develop.

Like all players that have left have all gone onto being pretty good players,McVee if he leaves will be one of them.im thinking all the backline players are a shadow of themselves,might just be the new backline coach or it might be that some of them have had some injuries along the way,like Bowie last year
