Regardless of whether or not this is true, it was not what is reported which was my point. I simply don't see why some are celebrating this as an exposure of Geelong wrongdoing.

The point is that what is being reported is a total cover up by the AFL to protect their beloved Geelong. Either that or Geelong are incredibly good at hiding these non kosher deals.

I find this a little hard to believe. As much as we all have a laugh around how the Cats are pulling the wool over the AFL, if any of what you said was remotely true, the other AFL clubs would be all over it and calling for an independent audit / enquiry into the matter.

Except lots of other clubs do similar things, so it is not in their interest to expose the Cats.

This is not a situation that is unique to Geelong, but they do have more of a leg up because of who some of their major funders/sponsors are.

Because there was nothing noteworthy reported. Caro basically said there were a handful of administrative errors that numerous other clubs have been done for in recent times. Did you actually watch the report?

I expect one of the reasons the AFL don't rock the boat with things like this is because the salary cap system wouldn't hold up in court if a club were to ever decide to challenge it at that level.

Jeeelong are a one team town, they have been doing “deals” since Frank Costa took over.

Do you know how many shares Pavlich owns in WA mining companies, and why he never left to go back to SA?

These things are common place in AFL. Geelong just does it better than most, because they have more resources to leverage which are easy to 'hide', especially in terms of property.

You would be shocked if you knew how little Tom Hawkins got paid over his footballing journey, but he and Emma's property is worth millions. Now go prove that property was bought by the club but is now somehow owned by Tom and Emma...

what has been eye-opening about jake niall's series of reports in ninefax about the moneyed movers and shakers at clubs is just how small we are in comparison with others

harder to hide third party payments when you don't have folks swimming with cash hanging around as linament sniffers

I don't even think the Geelong supporters pretend anymore and just get on with it knowing that their club is doing better at the shady deals in comparison to others.

I've neve been sold on the rumours about the 'dollar farms' concept. It would be pretty easy to trace the flow of funds by completing some searches that show COS signed amounts etc.

One thing I have seen from there players (actively on socials over the years) was the constant change/upgrade of vehicles. I always wondered if one or two were gifted to the players annually and they just sell the old ones.

Additionally, adding a player or two in a syndicate for a land development would be pretty easy which looks to have been completed over the journey for a lucky few and previous premiership coach.

The challenge that all Vic clubs have with the cats however is that they do market themselves well to players around a lifestyle point of view. Its something that we just can't compete with.

One of my best mates brothers played there for 10 years over the 07-11 successes and they basically had the entire playing group at there house mid week for a BBQ, couple beers and backyard cricket with everyone living within 20 mins of each other at the time. Other than a very few (Chapmans apparently a horrid human and Bartel a diva) they were all incredibly close.

They also stay connected with every country Vic lad who comes through the Pioneers, Bushrangers or Falcons programs just waiting for an opportunity to bring them back to the country lifestyle.

I can't stand the club and love seeing them get done (equally with the filth, blues & bombers) but have to admit, its purely from jealousy.

They continually seem to push the boundaries, they do it well and get away it. So kudos to them and I hope we're just as ruthless towards winning.

I don't buy that we can't compete with the Geelong lifestyle. We simply need to play to our strengths. Some players like city life, while others could easily set up on the Mornington Peninsula (e.g., I believe Jake Lever has done this, as has Max Gawn?)

Competing doesn't mean "doing the same thing". Obviously we can't compete with the farm life by offering farms. But there are things we and other clubs can do/offer that Geelong can't. Ditto for every club.

Though I will admit that if I were a footy player and didn't have a hatred for Geelong I'd probably want to set myself up at Torquay with a hobby farm and a new truck too.
