The guy copped a week actually for that hit. Rightly so. [censored]!

Shouldnt they regrade it now to 3 weeks? Kozzy got done exactly the same way with Darcy.... how can a guy get off with 1 week for concussnig somebody?

How is this not even mentioned in any media broadcast is infuriating.

I love him.

I love Kossie too. Can we clap at the 36 minute mark of the first quarter for him too? (I also love this initiative for Clarry)

How on earth does Jefferson get a game ,Roo is lucky as well

Turner 1st tall forward for me

For us to win this one by 40+ as some optimistic posters believe, I reckon we would need to hold them to 6 goals for the game. Can’t see that happening but I’d love it.

Heck why not. We've only been playing 1 or 2 good quarters even in our wins. The talent and match winning ability is still there we just need to play 3 quarters, let alone 4.

Hawks do nothing bad but don't do anything particularly well, they are ranked 4 to 8 in most areas, except one.

They are by far league leading marks inside 50 (16 pg) we are 17th (9 pg 🤮). Its not just the big guys as Hardwick, Macdonald and Watson all have had more marks inside 50 than all but one of our players (Fritsch with 12). Throw in Bruest and they have a very clever and agile forward line. Wouldnt label our defenders clever or agile apart from #4. I can almost read the game day posts that some so and so 30 yr old defender is cooked.

Up forward must play front of Sicily. He plays front spot so well. Melksham would have been great.

Their marks i50 are mostly defensive chains where they overlap hb and kick to a 1 on 1 or a fwd that has run fwd ie 'out the back'

Haven't checked the stats but not sure they are up there on contested marks

So we're going to have Oliver who just bangs it on his boot to no one in particular, have fritta and van rooyen in there competing for the same contest & who don't lead. They just stand there.

Also I hope van rooyen has learnt to stay on his feet & not go to ground

Oliver has been much better at the fwd handball. Much less banging on the boot.

Strangely optimistic about this game which is odd because I thought we were going to get jumped by WC last weekend.

Any idea where they'll start Turner this week?

With JVR and Jeffo in, you'd probably imagine defence.

As well as Petty out which is why I think you’re in the money

The West Coast player was very lucky Viney didn’t present with concussion symptoms until after in the week, after the MRO ruling.

It would have been 3 weeks otherwise

So Melksham needs to be rested after playing 1 consecutive game, are they for real? Maybe don't take an almost 34 year old to Perth to play the bottom side if he is not capable of backing up the following week in a much more important fixture. Hard to believe that Jefferson is the best replacement either.

It does seem like a weird call but i would guess if he was right to go he'd be playing Poita.

Could be the knee gash has arced up or maybe a hammy / other soft tissue niggle that they don't wanna risk this week.

Playing the long game?

There's no way Melksham is a placeholder. His delivery into F50 this year has been elite. He's a valuable asset for his footy smarts alone. As long as he's fit, he's an automatic selection for me, every week. Jefferson also has a place, but it's not to replace Melksham (*this year).

Jefferson's place is at Casey! Even there he struggles most games.

The Petty one is strange. I would have thought Adams in (not Jeffo) and do everything in your power to keep Turner forward playing as second string alongside JVR.

Jeffo did absolute didly squat in Casey's last massacre and we need to find a solid structure up forward & convert to post a potential winning score.

One thing for sure this game will provide at least one thing : LEARNINGS

Tbh I don't know by whom or of what, but there will be learnings a plenty.

Ought to put into focus a lot of things we're considering 'evolving' in this season so far.

A litmus game imho

Go us

Very surprised by the Jeffo selection

We take out 3 mobile players and add 2 talls, 1 with low form and the other with no form. Mystifying.

It's time for a good game from Kolt. Another low contribution game tomorrow and he forfeits his spot.

Richardson said he had some soreness and they wanted to play the long game with him.

If it were a pre determined rest, then I would've re-scheduled the rest for next week V Brisbane given we've already lost Viney and Petty from our best 23. We have a better chance of beating Hawthorn than Brisbane IMO and could've done with Melk tomorrow.

OD - do you actually watch us play?

Jeffo is not slow - in fact his acceleration off the mark and mobility are probably his standout strengths. Those attributes were certainly highlighted in his drafting notes.

I'd argue that a key reason jeffo has been selected this week is because he covers the ground so well.

And jvr is also pretty quick for a forward - and like jeffo good below his knees.

And what on earth are you talking about when you suggest we are taking out 3 mobile players?

Jefferson is a hell of a lot quicker and mobile than the player he is directly replacing - Jake Melksham - whose lack of mobility and leg speed is his biggest weakness

Ditto JVR over Petty, whose mobility is just ok.

Ironically the player you didn't reference, viney, IS being replaced by a less mobile player.

We've all got opinions. And we're all susceptible to confirmation bias.

But you are next level in terms of twisting reality to support your relentless negativity about the club you follow.

Not thrilled with the outs, Petty has been good forward last couple of weeks, Viney has been important as a defensive mid while still getting some ball and I think Melksham makes our forward line work better with his organisation and his kicking. Only 12 touches last week but he had a goal, 2 goal assists and 7 score involvements - big loss.

I rate JVR so he has to come back at some point, in for Petty makes sense but his form hasnt been great this year. Oliver obviously a gun so plays when he’s ready. Jeffo I haven’t seen anything that gets me excited for him at AFL level but hopefully he proves me wrong. I don’t think he’s got the smarts and grit to do the Melksham role on Sicily.

Overall we’re a little worse off than last week and playing a better team so I think we go in underdogs. Hopefully pull off a surprise or at least keep that annoying gnome Watson quiet, McVee should be able to cover him.

Jeffo, Fritsch and Spargo. Form not warranted their selection. Like to see 5 goals and 10 tackles from these 3 combined. That’s par. We’ll see on Saturday afternoon.

I’d guess 3 goals 3 tackles

Oliver is better when he has the ball but Viney is still much superior what he does without it, Oliver needs to get first hands to the ball at stoppage because he’s not catching anyone if it gets out

Hawks are missing Day, McKenzie, Dear, Barrass and Scrimshaw who are all clear best 22 players.

Add Mitch Lewis and Nash to the list of clear best 23 players missing.

So they have 7 players out that they'd love to have in a final.

We have Lever, Viney, Petty and Melksham missing from ours.

From a quantity point of view you'd say Hawthorn are more depleted, but it feels like our outs hurt more. Time will tell.

I suppose Hawthorn bat deeper than us.

They are up there 3rd with 10 pg but the gap to us 8pg is not very large. Yes its their quick agile forwards that find space very well. Dont feel like thats in our kit bag to defend week in week out but lets see.

I think this is a bit harsh on OD. Everyone does see the game different. Whilst Melksham body is not elite mobile, i see his point. He is still very decent in terms of changing direction off a step and then executing either side as last week showed. No way Jefferson can do that, but then not many players can.

Ill take the other side of JVR being quick. It might be our shocking game plan, but there's a reason he's found it hard to get separation and plays back shoulder a lot.

Fwiw im ok with the selections. . Hawks play small so we are going to try and beat them another way. Eventually we have to find out if our kpfs are any good at taking us to top 4 level. May as well start the learnings and yearnings now.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.
