I don’t know. I was just told that because Sandringham and Casey both have byes this weekend they’ve organised a scratch match which will be played at Casey Fields on Saturday.

Agree with the unfairness of Kozzie’s two praccies not being counted in his suspension.

PS Laura Kane’s appointment is one of the worst decisions made by the AFL ever.

Why so? Genuine question.

In the long list of spectacularly bad decisions by the AFL for this to be one of the worst is saying something! Anyway I'd be interested to know.

This is a very sensible decision by Laura Kane and is very different circumstances to Kozzy. Open your other eye.

Very different, he got 4 weeks so must be deemed worse than what Kozzie did (which shouldn’t have been a suspension anyway - Moore flopped).

Kane is undercutting the tribunal to do the Saints a favour cos they complained. Silly and sets a weird precedent. Do AFL players now get a discount for bye rounds when they could’ve played VFL?

I asked Tmac if he’s seen the article about his amazing stats in defence. He said Ruby (his wife) showed it to him. I told him how proud of him we all are. He said, “Not bad for an ancient old bugger, hey.” 😅

I love TMAC he has always been so humble.

If you get suspended for 4 games in the vfl but because of the inadequate nature of the comp that means 6 I think the correct decision has been made. He now misses 5, which seems still too harsh to me.

It doesn’t mean 6 though. He gets suspended for games not weeks. 4 games suspension should mean 4 games suspension, always has. If the 4 games are scheduled over 6 weeks bad luck. Why should 2 byes make a difference if 1 bye doesn’t?

I also don’t think the bump was worthy of 4 weeks but that’s no reason to stuff around with it via the back door.

For those who may have taken this the wrong way (not the first or last time on DL i'm sure), that was meant as a compliment to Ghosty ie; Tom is riding off the back of her reports

are they playing two games this weekend or are we playing someone else? :

A win for St Kilda.

Laura Kane has approved under exceptional circumstances that Alix Tauru’s four-match VFL ban can start this weekend with Sandringham’s practice match against the Tassie rep team.

Will be available AFL R12 / VFL R10

@7NewsMelbourne.

also f this, kossi’s ban didn’t include the freo and north game so why does this?????

Would Pendlebury have got 3 weeks for the tackle Curtis was suspended for?

An in depth analysis of the lost opportunity on the possible 2024 trade of Oliver to Geelong by Jake Niall has just been dropped by the Age

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-multimillion-dollar-decision-how-demons-missed-the-boat-on-oliver-20250501-p5lvrx.html

Co-incidence or did they want Oliver to avoid the media.

The article is mainly about dollars and doesn't really contain much we have not always known

One source close to the discussions reckoned 75 per cent was where it might have landed, not counting Oliver’s potential pay cut. Geelong’s position was that they would stump up a certain amount – let’s say $850,000 – and it would be left to the Demons, Clayton and his management, to work out the remains (how much he gave up, how much money Melbourne picked up).

If so, the Demons could have saved close to a million dollars per year, with the caveat that they would not gain much draft-wise.

After reading what cats were offering l am happy to back oliver in to build his form back up

Highly unlikely Roost. He's a good bloke Pendles.

Laura Kane is insipid, just like Andrew Dillon. But at least he fronts the media, she has decided to decline talking to the media ever since she (mis)handled the situation where Collingwood narrowly beat North thanks to an absolute howler by the umpires. She made the mistake of publicly admitting to asking Brad Scott for advice (her predecessor) which is unprofessional.

That’s just one reason. I’m not gonna waste my time or anyone else’s time listing the many other reasons.

He was on the verge of being picked at AFL level so it is effectively an extension of his suspension (more than the tribunal wanted or intended for him) due to the idiotic VFL scheduling.

Should’ve picked him a week earlier then instead of sooking about it. But it’s the AFL where the rules don’t matter unless they want them to

Agreed practice matches should have counted as they are AFL umpired and suspensions incurred carry though to the AFL season so it should count.

Richmond included practice games in the Balta ban, so they must be valid!

Sorry but asking your predecessor for advice isn't unprofessional. Personally I'm not enamoured by any leaders I see out there at the moment. Bunch of overpaid corporate wankers, most have so many bestowed benefits a trained monkey could fulfill the role. I mean the AFL is basically unbreakable. The hard work has been done. I could run it.

Michael Long missed a couple of practice games after his hit on Troy Simmons!

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
