Trac wants success and to be remembers as a HoF'er. The Suns present that opportunity, being part of their inaugural flag and potentially more in addition to 2021 helps his legacy. I think this is the main driver for him, he wants success and can see it won't happen at the MFC in the next couple of years - the other stuff is just noise.

Also, his wife wants to live near Noosa

He doesnt have a choice

The “wife” stuff is pretty low-grade, dudes.

Sure, she probably has a say in where they live. But I would hope the same would apply to every person here who has a partner.

The fact is if Trac wanted nothing more than remain a demon, it would be so.

Sure, but it's a strong factor, which is what i was pointing out

I don’t think “he doesn’t have a choice” is an actual factor.

Another captain to move clubs then. What has this league come to?! Such a steep decline in a once great sporting league. Can anyone genuinely say that AFL is superior now to any years gone by?

I'm sick of telling the bloody Commission that there are drums beating for fresh air and white smoke. They don't take any notice

The choice between Adelaide and Gold Coast is obvious, if the money is the same. Realistically, he doesnt have a choice

That’s easy to say now. Who says Geelong would’ve taken Clarrie, and for what in return. What Pert did was wrong on every level.

Stronger draft? Their offer was this year’s draft, which is a shocker. Will end up being around pick 25. They used their first rounder last year on Bailey Smith.

Cornes on trade radio said Trac for pick 7 is perfectly fair.

In which parallel universe?

Only in the demonland universe where Tracc is apparently a selfish git whose toxic for culture, can’t kick, and will never get back to his best.

Geelong were definitely courting him.

The MFC should call the gold coast suns and just say plainly

"We will not approve any deal for Christian Petracca that does not include Sam Flanders or a better player"

Motivate them to get in his ear

It’s a driver, but perhaps not the main one. An element of the other stuff, which you say is all noise, is probably closer to being the main driver, or at least, a significant driver. Reminds me of the old adage: a daughter is yours for the whole of your life, a son is yours ‘til he takes a wife. Sometimes a person has to make a choice between their partner and their mother, especially when one state’s not big enough for both of them.

Food for thought

As a few have pointed out, Noosa is nowhere near the GC. That being said, GC is a pretty amazing place to live. I’m Brissy based but try and get to South GC as much as possible. The whole strip from Currumbin to Rainbow is stunning. No wonder Tracc is keen for a change. I might even get down to watch more games if Tracc is there. I hate watching the Lions at the Gabba… Crowds are feral.

his approach was wrong sure, but the intended outcome was correct

ah, right, i thought it was mooted for last year's pick, but obvs smith was their #1 priority

He instigated the meeting with Geelong. He himself said it likely never would’ve happened because they weren’t exactly ready to walk over broken glass for him. They’re my words, not his. His words were “they weren’t that keen.”

Best reason I've heard so far for Trac choosing only interstate clubs!

And I would say very close to the truth especially for the eldest son a family with Italian heritage and married to a 'foreigner'.

They were probably keen to get him on the cheap which we weren't willing to compromise on last year. This year he could be a bargain.

We really need to split this thread into a Teac and clarry individual ones with all that’s going on.

Gold Coast is better for us. We have Flanders down at the club. J suggest him and 1 min first rounder and something else.

How is this footy club ever to be taken seriously when they’ve literally handed the entire operation over to one person?

The board needs to be sacked for this. It’s one thing to back someone all the way in THEIR ROLE, but entirely another to have no objective oversight on the core of their business.

It’s pathetic from St Kilda, and embarrassing from Ross Lyon that he thinks this is acceptable.

Except that Christian is the youngest in the family.....

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
