Did we trade out this years first for the XL pick? Just wondering, as Im thinking this years pick will probably be a pretty good one!

I saw him running along the boundary prior to being subbed. No expert but if it was an ACL he wouldn’t be able to do that?

Unless in typical MFC fashion he made it worse!!!

Generally, if he can move ok afterwards it's more likely to be an ACL. One of the guys who did his earlier in the year came back on the ground and they didn't realise he'd done his ACL until the scan

If they thought ACL or even a chance at being one, they wouldn't let him run and test it. Whilst you cant rule it out - and the incident did look innocuous - i think it still safer to assume unlikely.

It's true that you can often quite comfortably run in a straight line after rupturing your ACL. But as GS said, it's unusual for fitness staff to let you run on it if they suspect it.

Yep, but my understanding (purely from reading posts about it from people like weber) is that the test they use isn't always conclusive, and if it wasn't, they might let him test it with run throughs.

At the end of the day, hopefully he'll be in the clear. But it wouldn't be rhe first time someone has tested it and then the scan has shown an ACL

Yep, and whilst a future first for pick 9 (which became 11) will draw the headlines especially if we give Essendon a top 5 pick that won’t be the bit that bothers me too much. Especially if XL can become an on baller and not just a flanker/wing. Worthy dice roll.

But the extra cost for pick 28 (which became 32 from the ANB trade) and 40 (roughly 46) in the trade (not so worried about 54 and 65) in a really deep draft hurts. We have to take more useful draft picks and develop them up. Constantly trading up rather than letting the draft fall to you is a way to end up with stuff all depth as we have now.

On the brightside, apparently the next draft is not going to have the depth of last year's. So even injured, XL was worth the risk. He is going to be a star.

You might be talking about the Lachman test. You lie on your back with your knees bent at a certain angle and a physio or doctor holds your thigh and then tugs your shin bone forward, hoping to feel what they call an "end point". That's the ACL doing its thing: keeping your knee stable. If there's no obvious feeling of the ACL 'resisting', it could suggest it's ruptured.

You're right. It isn't always conclusive. I remember when I did mine, the physio on the boundary said they felt something and thought I'd be fine. Then a week later, I went and saw another physio and they thought they felt something as well. But whatever it was wasn't the intact ACL - the scan showed I'd done it.

But I still think letting a player run on it is unusual unless the medical team just don't suspect it at all.

Yeah, he hasn't had much time to show it yet but at this point Lindsay is looking like absolute gold. Initiative, awareness, skill, speed, calmness, and not at all soft either considering he's still lightly built.

Could still be a good decision to get him regardless of what this year's first ends up being.

As bad as everything feels at the moment, this situation PLUS Houston but no Langford or Lindsay would be so much worse.

We could have used him down back today but I agree that it would have been a waste. Langford was clearly our best midfielder today and is also going to be an absolute star.

I think we've nailed both top end picks from last year. Langford played his first full game for 26 disposals at 77% DE, 5 clearances, 10 score involvements, and 1 goal 1 off 66% TOG.

Taylor's recruitment of high end mids is second to none. Manufacture him more picks at the end of this year please.

The ACL test they use has an 85% sensitivity and 94% specificity.

The mechanism of injury was also a classic ACL.

Running in a straight line after the injury, also relatively common.

Take what you will from that.

I heard / read that he also did change of angle running testing on the sideline before being subbed off. Didn’t say anything either way.

that seems to be the consensus at this point in time, particularly with the pointy end picks in the 2025 draft set to be - once again - dominated by academy and father / son selections

but it's impossible to know how it's going to play out for at least half a decade i reckon

I think we will pick up once we get a few players back. ATM we have a number of new players in and it shows with a lack of cohesion.

Having said that it will be very, very tough to make the 8.

Its a long season.

Hoping like 'hell' X's is not an ACL.

That is the problem with team sport at the elite level. If all team members are not 'perfectly' aligned' with each other its a recipe for disaster.

You could see how well GC executed their game plan yesterday. They worked exceptionally well supporting each other as a team
