This award is perhaps one of the most biased voting systems ever … with coaches often giving their players votes in preference to any “objective” review.

Giants win by 3 points with a goal in the very last minute

Melbourne v Greater Western Sydney

10 Toby Greene (GWS) 5,5
6 Tom Green (GWS). 3,3
6 Christian Petracca (MELB) 2,4
5 Finn Callaghan (GWS)  4,1
2 Max Gawn (MELB) 0,2
1 Jake Lever (MELB) 1,0

KINGSLEY IS JOKING !! 5 Toby 4 Callaghan 3 Green 2 Trac 1 Lever

Goody (too kind) 5 Toby 4 Trac 3 Green 2 Gawn 1 Callaghan

and … in a see sawing match that could have gone either way as well … Lions won by 4 points

Sydney v Brisbane

9 Josh Dunkley (BL)
8 Zac Bailey (BL)
4 James Jordon (SYD)
4 Darcy Wilmot (BL)
3 Jarrod Berry (BL)
2 Dayne Zorko (BL)

FAGAN IS JOKING !!!! And someone the bias needed to Dean Cox !!

I thought Callaghan was better than Green but Toby smashed us really missed McVee. I think they did have the best 2 to 3 players on the ground but then we had the next 4 to 5 players on the ground.

Petty was far more better then Lever...

Toby kicked at least 1 on Petty and Petty was on him when he set up 1-2 others

Petty was actually pretty average apart from his intercept work.

Toby Greene win them the game. deserved the 10 votes

Is goody often too nice to the opponent?

I feel like the most biased coaches are Kingsley and Chris Scott.

And Luke Beveridge

I know that I've raised this before, but do we actually know how each coach voted or just the total votes for the match?

@Lucifers Hero your input please.

We can only know the shape of the votes as per the opening post.  As to which coach voted a certain way is a guess.

In this case the shape of the votes is correct but the attributed votes to Kingsley/Goodwin could be the other way round with no favoritism or leniency.

I notice the coaches gave the same votes to Greene (5) and Green(3) and both coaches gave votes to Callaghan and Trac.   For mine that is a very similar view of the game.

  • Demonland changed the title to 2025 COACHES VOTES: Round 01

Based on Kingsley's press conference I think he gave Gawn votes.  He was pretty impressed with Max's game.  Goody not voting as highly for Gawn as the opposition coaches has been a common theme and likely explains his runner up place in the Bluey last year.

I operate on the assumption that if there is any bias in the voting, it's likely to be toward the opposition team, with coaches more inclined to mark their own players more harshly.

Pies supporters staggered at this

Collingwood v Port Adelaide

9 Dan Houston (COLL)
7 Steele Sidebottom (COLL)
5 Daniel McStay (COLL)
5 Nick Daicos (COLL)
2 Connor Rozee (PORT)
1 Patrick Lipinski (COLL)
1 Tim Membrey (COLL)

…allegedly McRae gave N.Daicos 5 and Houston 4.  His bias is unhinged !!! Definitely not BOG and would’ve been lucky to squeak a vote or two.
Btw Hinkley gave Daicos ZERO !!

In other words, nobody really knows and it's all just guesswork.

Speculated by many …

McRae. 5 N Daicos 4 Houston 3 Sidebottom 2 McStay 1 Membrey

Hinkley. 5 Houston 4 Sidebottom 3 McStay 2 Rozee 1 Lipinski

Maybe the AFL should show what we’re each coach’s votes !!!

Both McStay and Daicos received 5 votes and the above assumes it was Daicos 5/0 and McStay 2/3 but could have been the opposite ie

Coach 1.     5 McStay 4 Houston 3 Sidebottom 2 Daicos 1 Membrey

Coach 2.    5 Houston 4 Sidebottom 3 Daicos 2 Rozee 1 Lipinski

According to the stats (which I know aren't teh be all, end all),  McStay had a phenomenal game so I can see the 5/0 scenario.    It is anyone's guess which coach was McRae or Hinkley - I could make a case either way.   It is also anyone's guess the mix for McStay and Daicos 5 votes.

Coll fans are too blind to see any sort of common sense let alone be rational.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
