Some truly fascinating contests. Crows are a really smokey this year for me. Should be a good game. Port will pump Richmond but will be intriguing after last week. As for Saints and Cats... well I go for any team that plays Geelong so let's just hope St Kilda doesn't out-St Kilda itself.

VFL should have moved to 16 a side years ago.

I like the boundary idea but it could be counteractive in the sense that play would avoid the boundary in favour of the corridor thus increasing congestion. Trial it in the VFL for the first half of each year for a couple of seasons perhaps

I'd go next year in the AFL (new boundary line rule and 16 a side)

There would be less congestion and let's not forget that a ground like the MCG is 149 metres wide

I much prefer corridor footy, it's just way more exciting.  As for turnovers in the middle?  That won't happen if a team is highly skilled

We are already seeing a trend that way anyway.  So if we make the boundary line the enemy, we'll see a better game

Not necessarily looking for higher scores either ... one of my all-time favourites games was the 1990 Elimination final (Melb vd Hawks)

End to end stuff but only 18 goals scored for the match

I am getting sick of McCrae.

Said Cox was punched in the face and got stitches and he was sure the player would come under MRO scrutiny.

He is now as annoying as Chris Scott.

Crowd at Bombers v Crows at the G, on a sunny saturday, with no Grand Prix, looks poor.

Wonder if we will hear Caro and her mates knocking the Bombers’ fans.

Surely it was just a football action,  Lobb was trying to spoil but couldn’t turn in the air. High contact yes,  but that was all

Darcy was probably BoG )with Libba and Daicos) but he hit the post twice from 30m with no pressure

He must be feeling it

*side note - love how Darcy seems to hate the Pies and sticks it to Maynard.

Darcy is my favourite non-mfc player. When he polaxed Maynard last year it was a thing of beauty. He was at him again last night.

McRae is like Jurgen Klopp. Glazed by the media but a complete arsehat.

I am also starting to dislike McRae. He has an arrogance about him.

But you have taken him out of context. I heard it as him simply stating fact; that he would assume that it would get looked at simply for the fact it was a punch to the face and a player needed stitches. i don't think he was being smart or anything.

Is anyone else enjoying the "footy act" that caught Coxhead in the eye?  There's only one nicer bloke on that team it could have happened to.

Pies fear worst for defender, Lobb 'punch' under scrutiny - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1283038

Is that [censored] Michael Christian involved? If so, will he vow to quit if Lobb isn't given 8 weeks?

bombers 40 points down at half time. Real bruise free footy, crows moving the ball easily.

finals look as far away as ever. great to see

*sigh* okay I'll read Essendon BigFooty.

Yeah Cox never seems to get punished for being such a filthy sniper and loves the Collingwood method of leading into people's kidneys with his knees

Bummers recruitment is a hot mess. It's a beautiful thing.

Essenthing doing really well today.
WTF are they doing on the MCG?

As an MCC Member I am not impressed at all

Essendon and Carlton are the biggest wannabe clubs.

Carlton were only ever good because they had money.

Essendon benefited from awesome zoning and a once-in-a-generation coach.

They haven't won a final without Sheedy since 1968. Just horrific. It's somehow better to be a Saints support in 2025 if you were born this century.

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road for their 3rd interstate game in 4 weeks as they face a fit and firing Crows at Adelaide Oval. With finals now out of our grasps what are you hoping from the Dees today?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
