I don’t care if he’s the best forward in the history of world sport. He’s not delivering, if that doesn’t change and guys like JVR, Jefferson, Turner, AJ, Pickett are all playing good football then his spot may be at Casey for a few weeks. Also I’d take Neitz, Lyon, Robertson and a few others ahead over the last 50 years.

Hahahah… this is hilarious.

Fritsch was Melbourne leading goal kicker last year. Played 23 games and was the top 20 forward in the league in both total goals and average. All this whilst playing in a bottom 5 side.

please tell me how he ‘isn’t delivering’

He kicked 14 goals in the last 12 rounds last year, showed little to no second efforts, defensively he was horrible and on Sunday he was goalless and lacklustre at best. At what point does he get a whack. I’d give him another 3-4 games to show us he deserves a game.

No one is disputing BF is in the pantheon of Melbourne greats, and I’m not going to quibble where, but the discussion is about current performance, I for one am worried he has become the outlet for other teams to play through from their defense. I want a universal standard of pressure and pressing from our forward half and in fact the whole team. He needs to be kicking 50+ to get a pass from that benchmark and he’s not doing it. That said I think he gets more games to find his mojo. He’s on notice is all, and I dearly hope he comes good.

I'm a big fritter fan.

But he is not one of the greats of the Melbourne football club.

In my time supporting the dees I'd have conservatively 30 players ahead of him.

Leaving that debate aside he has credit in the bank but it's time he put some back in.

I feel for Fritsch, he needs an open forwardline to work with or at least some space to roam around at the bottom of the packs and hit snaps. We just give him so little to work with with how we set up.

If you look at where our goals came from on the weekend it was mostly either through the midfield or a messy crumb or soccer when the ball got spoiled in congestion. There was a lot of right place right time in those goals. Didn't appear to be much of a system in place.

I'm still deeply concerned about our forwardline. We've gone from prefering high long kicks to the pocket to high long kicks to the top of the goal square. When we did try to hit up a lead our forwards got in each others way. There was one in particular where we turned it over in the middle and Sparrow launched the ball to the goal square only to be intercepted by Taylor, but he had three Melbourne players sitting on their own 30 metres out on a slight angle. I just don't get why we make things so difficult for ourselves.

Fritsch is the best forward we have had in 50 years. We’ve was the last generational forward of any team dropped?

Allen Jakovich, Gary Lyon, David Neitz, Russell Robinson, Jeff Farmer and Brad Green spring to mind.

Who would you rather have, any on my list or Fritsch?

The Fritta should be scoring 3-4 goals a game consistently. He hasn’t been doing this for a long time

And without having a go at North (every team on its day can be a threat) why would you not include him in the side that is to play North?

I’ll go on stats… he averages more goals than all those players.

And where to do have him in relation to other Melbourne forwards since the 80’s? Scoring alone has him top 3

you are losing credibility mate

Lyon, Neitz…. Fritsch?

I love Bailey but he has been average recently.

What? Jakovich averaged nearly 4 goals a game 🤨

Fritta the best forward in 50 years?

[censored] hell I've heard it all now... 🤣 there's been an outright nuffy and then there's simply being delusional.

Are you being serious?

Allen Jackovich kicked 201 goals in 47 games for the dees  that's a tick over 4 goals a game.

Fritter has kicked 259 goals in his 141 games for the dees. To be fair let's take our his 15 odd games he played at hb in 2019 and give him a two goal a game average as as forward.

Half Jackovich's average.

Hell, Mark 'Jacko' Jackson averaged just under 4 goals a game with us, kicking 152 goals in his 41 games with the dees.

Expecting 3-4 a game is tough on a skinny 3rd forward

He has overachieved for years and we are used to it

His efforts and pressure on the other hand are things in his control

Past players are irrelevant to this argument. He’s a very very good forward at his best and dare I say it, a liability at his worst. He’s a few more poor games from a game at Casey I’d say.

Great post. Isolate Fritsch and get it in quick and direct. I don’t get why we’re playing him higher up the ground.

?

Fritsch 149 games 252 goal 1.69 goal per game

Jakovich 54 games 208 goals 3.85 per game

I haven't looked at the others.

Edit

Lyon 1.88 per game

Robertson 1.87 per game

Farmer 2.19

Etc, etc

So other than false truths what have you got?

OxDee has left the group

he's one game in to a new season and role, can we just give him a wee bit of time before declaring he's done?

he's playing an entirely new position to that in which he's consistently been one of the best mid-sized forwards in the competition

credits in the bank, give him time to adjust

Fritta’s 17th on our all time goal kicking, and should finish the year 13th behind Barassi. Likely finish his career in the top 10.

Hasn’t been at his best since the bung foot but he’ll come good. At least he can kick straight, JVR and Koz aside none of the others are much good at that (Turner maybe also ok)

Fritta to kick 10 against Norf in a soft kill and put a hex on his haters

Most of our forward line are good set shots - JVR, Fritta, Disco, now Jeffo!

Problem is most of the time it's our mids having the shots at goal!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
