Unconfirmed rumour from a mate that Steven May is out. No other info. Take with a grain of salt at the moment.

We've had a good spread of goal kickers in the past, with the mids having to carry some of the load.

Hoping we get a functional forward area, where we start converting the many entries, and the forwards get the majority of scores.

I'd be thinking the mids are carrying an inordinate amount of the load.

We'll  see

Go us

Anyone on the fence about going, PLEASE GO! Crowd will be low because its against GWS, the F1 is on and the weather is poor. Let's try get at least a few more Dees supporters there to show support for our boys, and especially the debutants!

Bbbut we might break a record??!?

(I have no idea whether we would - I expect a franchise holds the competition record)

18 debutants in the first game of 1897 is probably the record, held by a few teams.

At the Saturday training he was in runners (not boots like everyone else), though still participating.

Certainly wouldn’t risk May with such an inexperienced tall fwd line

Bring in a small to lock down Daniels

Or T Mac to handle Gruz

Love Round 1, hate that it is Sunday 3.20pm and F1 weekend.

I will have eyes on Jeffo who is surprisingly good in the wet (a few games at Casey last year). I am not expecting too much, but want to see his leading, effort and attitude.

Max will be a huge factor in the game - win or lose.

Can the 6 debutants quickly play our defence/stoppage game?

Will our forward line look or feel different with new line coach and new faces? I definitely hope so.

GWS are very well coached, disciplined except for their skipper, and transition as well as anyone. They go in likely favourites.

Should be a cracker, hoping for a 20 point win.

And let’s be honest… a significant portion of our fanbase won’t attend because of the rain.

Rain wouldn't keep this Melburnian Seattleite away!  Living in Seattle has taught me how to deal with rain.  (Living in Melbourne didn't....)

However there's the little matter of noone has developed a teleporter yet so I'm stuck here for the nonce and only able to watch on the tv.

I believe he's running late

This is the flattest start of a season for me that I can remember. Too much [censored] and brutality in the world. Footy seems so unimportant and not even much of a positive distraction anymore given all the pathetic dramas from the end of last season. Still I will be watching and hoping for a win. More hope than confidence.

Looks like the rain will be clearing by bounce down which is nice. Might be some light rain to start, but should be gone pretty quickly

Good luck to the demonland faithful

may the good ship AFL

bestow good luck fair seas and lots of wins

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
