Ask any player in a lower comp if they had the chance to be elevated to a higher comp, they'd grab it. If you must have a cut off make it the day before the clubs first game of the season. Quote

You can't have too many midfielders. Left footed and 194cm. What's not to like. Grab Roy mid year (possibly). 1 Quote
Deestinga2 83 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Maybe to stop the VFL clubs then being at a disadvantage due to having a player taken in the SSP, maybe the player should have to come from within that teams own system. So a Casey player for us and a 2nds player from Carlton. If we are allowed to sign another player, then Culley certainly fits the above criteria. 2 Quote
adonski 13,267 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I like the idea of Culley but how does he get a gig. He wouldn't get a game at the moment and we still have Tholstrup to come back too. 1 Quote
BC_1718_DC 1,776 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Article states that all clubs were contacted and supported the idea because it should be fair game for every club (re all clubs getting a practice match before the window shuts). Good to see the AFL being proactive. 3 1 Quote
Roost it far 10,136 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 George for me, purely speculating on his ability and his desire to make it 1 Quote

Kolt isn’t that nor is he that type of player. 2 1 Quote

He’s a depth mid but he’d be rivalling Laurie for our first choice depth mid. That said, unless he’s lighting things up I’d be looking at a half back. Or even another small forward, can never have enough! 1 Quote

Culley’s more attractive if he can play forward or wing but I think Henderson getting the nod suggests the coaches probably only see him as a mid. 2 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,675 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 Best half back outside the afl system? Jez McLennan in the sanfl? Anyone in the wafl? 1 Quote

A bit outside the box but Jack Henderson did start his vfl career as a small defender and he mentioned that the other day too. Could come into Melbourne’s thoughts with Sharp kicking the goals he did. 1 Quote

Good to see the AFL being proactive. Surprised clubs supported this given they're obligated to look after their own backyard first. Sam Michell was asked his opinion on SEN this morning and he gave the impression that he was against the extension, it was like "bad luck Melbourne and Carlton but rules are rules" (unless I misunderstood him). 1 Quote

I think he more so said I don’t know why the deadline is before every club has played the practice game because that’s not ‘fair’. But because it’s not hawthorn in that situation he’d rather the deadline not be extended. 1 Quote

All I took from his answer was that he won't be doing cartwheels that we might well be granted the extension. 1 Quote
KozzyCan 967 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Hopefully Roy George. We have a number of guys who can run through the midfield and Culley would start very far back. George would be a bit more fun and we don't have a great deal of small forwards. Would expect it's more likely we'd see George play seniors than Culley. 1 Quote

Because if that’s the reason, I’m sure there’s plenty more and better options around the state leagues than him. Lots of chatter for someone who has proved next to nothing. I’ve been to a few trainings and seen him do some flashy things but he isn’t near consistent enough and doesn’t do the defensive stuff and that is apparently the knock on him. 1 1 Quote

Really it’s someone who can cover Judd and Hore 1 Quote

rpfc 29,027 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 If your making a decision on SSP based on what the best 22 needs - god help us. Culley surely gets a go. Whether he ‘has a spot in the 22’ is as meaningless as speculating who is going to get the next season ending knee injury… 3 Quote
