Please add The Duke beside Windsor's name. I just realised 'post-post' that that's who it refers to, and I saw it on here months ago too.

Nobody at the club calls him The Duke. Not his teammates, not the coaches, not the training staff… nobody. Someone on here called him The Duke when we first drafted him but honestly, it’s never caught on.

Thanks, @Ghostwriter!

This thread is a stark reminder of how pleasantly trivial, diverting and consuming Demonland can be 😄

Do any of the names vary in the heat of match-day battle? TMac, for example, might be a bit of a mouthful?

Does Clarry get Clazz much? (as used by Richo (*) in his interview, for example)

Ditto Koz v. Kozzy/Kossie?

Poor Harves had to take second best, eh? Ricky, though, hasn't been forced there by the 'unentitled' Rick.

And, finally, we mourn the passing of the good old days: only 5 genuine 'nicknames' imagined by this Gen-something-or-other (and PC?) lot!

(*) Perhaps a coaches' list, too, Ms Friendly Ghost?

Nothing’s hard and fast with these things. You mentioned Tmac and that’s one of those grey areas. I’ve heard the boys call him Tommy and sometimes Macca as well as Tmac but I reckon it’s fans who mostly call him Tmac.

Harvey would likely have been called Langers except for Ed already having that nickname and Ricky Mentha is Ricky despite Jake being nicknamed Rick.

Clarrie gets Claz from the coaches but I hear the boys call him Clarrie. Kozzie seems to get Koz and Kozzie from the players, except not from his uncle Roy who has a family nickname for him which he told me but asked me not to tell people which is not a problem since I can’t for the life of me remember it 😅

I thought that Judd McVee's nickname was knuckle. Singular.

It definitely started as singular. When he was on the G & G Podcast they called him Knuckle.

Now he must have the added bonus of an 's'

Didn't Gus give Blake Howes the nickname Halfway, as in Halfway Howes?

And I thought it was going to be Ed Langdon = Lingers, and Harvey Langford = Langers.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a player call him Lingers out on the park. They call him either Langers or Ed.

Yes Gussy gave Blake Howes the nickname Halfway which Blake said was funny but isn’t what they call him. It’s Howesy all the way.

A couple of years ago Deakyn Smith told me that his nickname was Deaks. I said that’s not very imaginative and he said that’s how the giving of nicknames always goes: they toss around a heap of suggestions then end up settling on the first (and least imaginative) one. 🤣

Ok. It's just nice to read posts without having to chase things up. Sure, you mention something like the Western Oval in '87 or the Cordnors and some people will know about these and some won't - and that's fine. But a vaguely obscure nickname for a main player is a little silly.

I don’t give them their nicknames, I’m just telling folks what they’ve told me are their nicknames and what I hear them call each other. The Duke is a great nickname for Caleb but they all call him Leb and he really likes it.

Wasn't it because Howesy only got halfway through a subway footlong sandwich? 😂

Excuse my ignorance, but where does a nickname of Dirk come from?  Dirk as in a type of dagger? Dirk Gently and His Holistic Detective Agency? Dirk Welham? Dirk Van Hartog? Dirk Nowitzki? Deadly Dirk? I needs ta know!

I always thought it was in reference to Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog. Recall posts to that effect around his time of drafting/arrival.

@layzie, you'll have to help them; they appear not to digg it...

Can’t say I’ve heard about that being the reason but it’s funny. 😂

He told me Gussy came up with it because… Halfway House (Howes)

'Kick it to me, Halfway!'

Would require a strong lead...

I thought he should of been nicknamed “Crowded”

" Zat" would have been more succinct.

Now I'm tempted, Mr. Stone.

Really tempted...

Hah… so this nickname was bestowed upon him as the team showered post training?

My middle son calls me Knackers. But that’s fair enough because I call him [censored]-knuckle 😁

My mate calls me knackers occasionally, it’s a term of endearment

A good pun is hard to beat!

I'd have to listen to Gus and Gawny again to confirm, Gus told some good stories about nicknames arising from certain deeds or misdeeds (like someone abandoning through golf course during a storm)

As Gus told it they were playing golf and Howes buggered off after 9 of 18 holes

I'd say he got Tmac a bit more when Oscar was still around at the club.  Forget exactly what they use to call Oscar, but I recall it being a good one.  He was a bit of a whipping boy for the fans, but think he was genuinely well liked by his teammates.

Wasn’t Oscar “Porterhouse” and TMac TBone?
