Knocking Longmire is like knocking the all-blacks, you look churlish, he is an all time great as a coach, heโ€™s been respectful in the game and his personal life has stood out as a model of dignity. By the by, as happy as I was for the Dogs to win it in 2016, they had a 20-8 free kick count and it stands out as the worst GF performance by umpires I have seen. Have never heard Horse sook about it when many others would have. For sure Horse goes in the woulda/coulda/shoulda GF coaching basket like Tommy Hafey, however I look at 14 years of sustained success as the measure of his abilities. ย I also would like to know what the hell happened to them last year.

Yes, imagine if it had been Brad Scott on the receiving end of that performance!

I work with a rusted on ex South Melbourne supporter who regularly goes to watch them up in Sydney as he is one of our sales reps. He said that there's a big difference in the mindset of both sets of supporters. The Victorian based ex South supporters are very grateful for all Horse has done for the club whilst the Champagne Charlies that go watch them up there just want to win and be entertained all the time.ย

Woah there @DEE fence.

a good coach yes, but he definitely ainโ€™t no all-time great.

Maybe too strong, but career average of 62% ainโ€™t no muppet, in the top 25 coaches for games at 333, 5th I think for winning percentage out of that bunch, is a high level of consistency, and equal 9th for number of GF reached. Iโ€™m not calling him Smith, Barassi, or Jock, but is a fair body of work. If I was grading him at school Iโ€™d say A-, is that better?

They are one of only two teams to win three World Cups (the other being South Africa). Since world rankings were introduced in 2003, the All Blacks have held the #1 spot 80% of the time. They have won 10 of 16 Tri-Nations tournaments; six of seven Rugby Championships; and retained the Bledisloe Cup for 17 years.

I got a big bag of churlish to hand out for anyone who wants to compare that to 1 premiership in 14 seasons on an easy wicket.

RDB - 17410 = all time great.

Note to CHRIS FROM CAMBERWELL...

This is what winning looks like, Chris! When are you going to realize that Dwayne Russell has you on to serve his own anti MFC bias?ย

I donโ€™t agree with this comment.

Dwayne Russell is one of the rare commentators that thinks we can bounce back next year. He mentioned this on his show after trade week.

Fair nuff! My point is that Russell, like most football hosts on radio, is manipulative. He looks for ways to stir up an audience who will continue to engage with the topic. A tried-and-true method grants airtime to listeners whose point of view is known to rile other listeners. Enter CHRIS...ย ย

He is in Swans folklore. Most successful coach ever I presume.

Most Clubs would die for the last 14 years 62.% winning run 5 Grand Finals 1 Flag A culture of winning and team ethos plus a development program thst is the envy of the AFL.

Crowds have risen consistently over this period along with membership and 12 Finals in 14 years.

And are well and truly respected along with The Cats as the most successful teams that have not had to bottom out to keep competitive.

Much like Collingwood of old since 1958 but always around the mark.

As long as they don't emulate Hawthornย

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven Mayย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
