Correct. I would actually view it as an investment into our future more than just employing someone.

Of course. A 6 year old kid today, is 16 next decade. Every child who engages with the Demons is a valuable asset to the club

for childrens Membership i would love to see 1 game options available

3 games, 5 games. It doesn’t matter, even throw in a Jumper. Get them involved.
I still remember the 1st Game i saw live at the MCG

Social Media is just as important as Sponsorship, the Club needs to think this way…starting today!!

Unfortunately whilst the pall of the old boys network of the MCC, the ski trips and the cheese boards continues to hang over the club, which slowly but surely is being eradicated, the appeal of the MFC to the younger generation might be a slow build,

The club continually provides communications, if supporters could be arsed reading or looking at them, there has been posts everyday since training resumed, on the Clubs Insta and Facebook feeds, plus interviews with Jones, Bassett, Campbell and Sharpe, the fixture list with Tholstrup and AMW, there has been clips on Youtube also, etc etc so your point is?

I’m old Saty, but even I get how important social media should be for our  Club. It’s obvious from your post that you don’t, and perhaps it’s you that needs to do some research to broaden your outlook.

All well and good to communicate to an existing supporter base.  Even then not much good to supporters who don't use those mediums.

I now rarely even go to the mfc website, it is as boring as ....

And those mediums are useless in appealing to new fans especially those in the 18-25 age group.  Like it or not that is where the growth in the fan base is as GWS and Hawks have shown..

There's been a drastic improvement since the players came back to training this year.

The board review announced a member engagement committee.

It's abundantly clear that the club are going to invest more resources in this area.

My point is that our social media needs to be about 300% better than what it is now

kids have no idea about skiing trips or cheeseboards, so that old chestnut is irrelevant

We lag behind in the AFL with social media, that is a fact. Employ a team of young kids 20 hours a week to get it up to standard, the Club would make money and also gain exposure to young potential members

Went to the World Cup in Russia in 2018 (great experience... learnt it's all about the bar scene but that's for another day). At the games I was amazed by the number of people videoing the games. Very annoying if someone was holding an ipad in your viewing line (I later realised that few actually see the match as everyone stands up in their seats).

Of course videoing is de rigeur at concerts (Taylor Swift at the MCG choked the wifi) but it got me thinking.

Why not have a section of the stadium where interacting is encouraged. Give them some instagram type props. Have a few key players dedicated to driving the vibe etc.

Needs work but it might work

My holiday town of Penang became a world wide instagram hit by getting a Lithuanian artist to paint street murals that encouraged an interactive selfie. You could sit on the back of a virtual bike or go for a swing etc. I'm sure you could do something with a similar MFC theme. "Holding up the premiership cup with Max Gawn for example."

In my view, Melbourne's presence on Social Media has been very limited.

Even North Melbourne has more content than us on Social Media, which is embarrassing!

Tik-Tok, SnapChat, X/Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc all need to be utilised much more to advertise the Melbourne Demons to possible new supporters.

The more content the better!

Disclosure on my part:  I'm a bit 'old school' so don't use social media preferring face to face interactions wherever possible.  But I totally get the appeal to a younger generation.  The whole social media thing to them is entertainment and lots more!

I assume Demonland qualifies as social media...so a somewhat ironic line in the OP (which is a very good OP, by the way.)

Too many replies, to quote, I am all for Social Media, I have accounts on Insta, Facebook and X, not sure which bit of the club needs to improve their presence, those answering my post, have you looked at those this week, do you actually follow them so they appear in your feed?

If the Club website is boring, what do you want to see on there?  MFC is a footy club

The club has posted 3 times today on Insta, as well as the players.

If you want superfluous content, then suggest something.

Employ a team of young kids? Have you any idea of the money they want SWYL? I do coz my daughter does it. They don't do it for free or the love of the club, I would prefer any spare money put into the Footy Dept, start winning and successful finals campaigns and the support and membership will follow.

Here is a question about Social Media and see if somebody can answer, why has no male AFL player come out in public and announced they are gay, perhaps they are fearful of the reaction Sam Kerr received with her announcement.

Social Media can be a bonus or a cesspit.

Have a look at the vitriol that's expressed after a loss on the clubs feeds or the players feeds

Member engagement will be more about what members think or want to see the Club do, so we don't get a repeat of the Lawrence situation, I would assume we may get a few more forums to participate in.

I was quoting the cost of hiring additional staff, nobody works for free these days, spend money on what, MFC is a footy club, it plays footy, so therefore the social media posts should contain what?

Everybody seems besotted with what the Hawks did, they didn't do it, the players did, I follow most on the MFC list, so I see the non footy feeds, is this what you want to see on the club's feeds, "here is Ed Langdon in South America on holiday, buy a membership" I can see that working, all the young followers, "gee that looks a great place let's go on holiday to South America"

I would like somebody to answer why there is no male AFL player who has come out as gay?

I don’t need to look at the MFC Website, it’s not designed for me. We need to engage the younger generation. How many times do i have to say it

We have a long way to go with primary school aged kids, we need to win their hearts on Matchday and during the week

Social Media Platforms are under utilised

Haha!  Yes, a bit of a contradiction, eh?

I've never used Twitter, Tik Tok, Snapchat etc.  Last Dec I turned off notifications for Insta, fb and withdrew from my Whatsapp Groups and from Demonland!

However, Demonland eventually drew me back albeit far less frequently.  Whatsapp I use when overseas.  Back home I prefer to ring and catch up with people.

So again, as MFC is a footy club, what content should be on the social media platforms to engage.

Most posters on this topic have stated yes great idea, MFC is rubbish at the moment, but have not said what content they think the club should be putting on the platforms.

Maybe, and this is for the more mature on here, maybe one of the players in a Jack Thompson pose? That may get the more cosmopolitan involved.

Good call. EArlier in this thread someone discussed the poor pay at AFL for I.t. roles. Afl generally pays poorly unless your Gil and SMT.

But their biggest current concern is lack of junior members and attendees and don't have a solution. Might explain a few things re this topic.

Night games and midweek don't help but general young fan engagement is sliding due to lack of interest.

Hawks might be onto something

Agreed. It’s pointless trying to discuss with him any further

To run a Website properly, a full time wage is a fair call, but if the content of our output is good the money would be recouped very quickly.
The club should be able to run it, independently from the AFL

As harsh as it sounds....it isn't nearly enough.

Look to emulate what other AFL Clubs are doing as well as making more of our own unique and funny content.

Perhaps try  to get a bloke like Caden MacDonald who has over 90,000 subscribers on YouTube more involved with our Social Media. He is a very passionate Demons supporter.

There are others too, like Broden Kelly, the blokes from the Deebrief Podcast, Titus O'Reily and Hamish Blake who all have varying levels of influence online and in the media.

Anyway, that's just a few suggestions.

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
