I dare say the majority of our premiership squad would credit their professionalism to this guy taking them under his wing when they first entered the club. You can’t put a price on that kind of leadership. Welcome back Captain!

I recall making that observation re Jones back in my Ology days.

Kicking and always something each year..it rarely got acknowledged.

He also tried to carry the whole team on his back for a few seasons there.

Tried a bit too hard sometimes I thought.

There were stories of tension with Jack Viney in the change room and he's no commentator

But still..

You have to love a footballer who surfs rather than plays golf though....hmm that might be a lead to follow up next next year.

I 'm surprised that Nathan came back on board given the Club seemingly begrudged 300 games, made sure he didn't overtake Neeta ( who they gifted a whole season to) and then the coach who  couldn't find him a  spot on the best 22 on G/F day.

Geez, they only had to beat the rabble that is "foot as grey" which is like beating Ivan Lendl at Wimbledon.

He may put a bit of ginger in the group..can't be bad thing , but not likely to put them in the finals

It was our premiership season hardly think it was the time to be gifting games. End of day he wasn’t in the best 22 there should be no grudges there

A fully restored version of Wim Wenders Paris Texas is being screened at The Classic in Melbourne and The Ritz in Sydney over the next couple of weeks. I'm planning on going tonight. Love that film. And the incredible sound track by Ry Cooder.

This is without a doubt the most misplaced post I've ever made except for the one quoted above but anyway following on. I went to this last night. Forgot just how good this film is. Can't recommend it highly enough. Incredible script by Sam Shephard. Natasha Kinsky in her absolute prime. OMG. Changed Harry Dean Stanton's career. I think he did Repo Man next. Another classic.

Way too slow for me. Great to look at, but a bloody hard watch. We studied it in film school.

I'm glad we've got a structure that eases him into the big time coaching ranks. Giving him stoppages is a smart start.

I suspect the soft cap has had something to do with the midfield appointments too, although I could be completely wrong there.

The pacing is what I like so much about it. That'll either make it or break it for you. Funny how the memory plays tricks. I thought the cross country walking was a big part of the film but watching it now it was actually quite short.

The soft cap still not being restored to pre Covid levels is an absolute shocker by the AFL. There has been plenty of press about the cost to the Assistants of this in terms of workloads and lack of appropriate remuneration. Needs to have been fixed several seasons ago.

Agreed. Wtf are the AFL doing with this. Everything is back to normal and has been for 2.5 - 3 years

Pretty rounded view of things, has Jonesy, and coming from a number of good and relevant places into this apparently well-conceived role.

So good to have Nathan Jones back at the club he has had time to get over his hurt, he has had a spell in the Media, watched lots of games and would have his own ideas about game plans, midfield strategy and how to inspire his midfield group plus he has Sam Radford in his corner who has years of experience developing teams. Not to mention his 306 games, that puts him up with the legends of the game plus a multiple Bluey Winner. Looking forward to seeing the midfield changes in ‘25, welcome back Champ.

Great to have him back.

As midfield coach I'm not so sure.

The last first year midfield coach I can remember succeeding was Brett Ratten with us 20 years ago.

Boy you have a short memory you don’t think our flag was based on Yze plus bang bang bang and Jacko. Maybe have a a relook of the 2021 Finals especially from the 19 minute mark of the Granny.

Not sure if you're aware Mr 58er but Adem Yze was a multiple premiership winning assistant coach at Hawthorn before coming to us, not fresh out of the game.

Along with Jonsey, ld love to see James Mac back helping with development and even leadership

You won't be seeing Junior Mac down in Melbourne anytime soon.

He's settled up here in Albury in a real nice property just out of town and is heavily involved in the agriculture world.

He coaches the Albury Tigers juniors and I've been keeping a close eye on his young fella Harry McDonald who is a upcoming gun junior footballer.

Harry won the under 14's best and fairest this year and finished 4th in the league beat and fairest.

Jonesy certainly brings some fun to training.  Usually smiling and quick with a light hearted comment or two.

Same… hated that

And that would have been even worse than sitting JJ on the bench the full game.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
