    Agree we don’t gift games but Jefferson was listed as an emergency in a number of games, so I am assuming that he isn’t far off according to match committee. On the other hand Turner May put a spanner in the works as I thought he looked very promising late in the season.

    Petty down back is the way

    Turner is a possible swing player if Lever is injured

    Obviously you didn’t see many of the last 10/12 games of Jeffo in the VFL did you OD? 

    Rather than simply judging him on his record and other judges ( which is complimentary, amazed, or still like you disillusioned and negative about his weight and competitiveness.) 

    Most fans have at least mentioned his physique is much more developed, and his performance has improved immensely in intensity and tackling has been good. Consequently he has kicked 30 goals this season which is about the same as JVR in his 2022 (31 goals) results. 

    The only way we will discover if he can bridge the gap is to give him opportunity when he earns it if a vacancy occurs. 

    Input forward the suggestion that we look to play him on a HFFlank to be a mobile forward and  marking addition to the forward line. 

    My point is that Jeffo has IMO some very good forward line skills and shows the aptitude of a forward and this gives me the conviction that he may well be successful at a higher level.

    Let’s not get too negative about his weight or physique as not all forwards are muscle men ( Josh Kennedy for eg.) but wiry and still strong bodied. Fritta is not a strong or muscled up player but has enormous forward skills to compensate.

    Unfortunately many D/Landers think Fritta should  be getting 8/10 tackles per game instead of 2/3 goals per game.

    I know which I am happy with for our team. 

    Same  as with Jeffo don’t try and compare his style say with JVR both are potentially good/ maybe in long term great forwards as is Disco also.

    We will gain an advantage with contrasting skills of all our players and it’s a team game after all.

    Correct most of the games I missed were in the second half of the season. I hope you are correct he is sorely needed as a good player in the forward line. I just wish we didn’t have to keep using JVR as a ruckman. IMO he is barely passable as a ruckman and using him that way takes him out of the forward line. Reduces his chances of score involvement.

    Agree entirely that we shouldn’t use JVR as a ruckman (except for deep forward contests where the main ruck can drop a kick behind the play) but I don’t agree that his ruck work was barely passable; the fact that it was quite decent unfortunately made his a better choice for ruck back up.

    My last look at his stats as a ruckman were not good. IMO the best he does is provide a contest.

    If Fritsch got 5 tackles per game we would likely score 4-6 goals from those efforts.

    Unfortunately its his efforts that are lacking

    Hopefully he gets a shot next year. Would be massive if we could turn this guy into a player but I get the sense our coaching group has little confidence in him.

    Why are you so sensitive when it comes to Jefferson? We all want to see him succeed.

    I'm with you that he's showed some promise at VFL level. I went to quite a few Casey games where he really showed his potential but still struggles staying engaged and doing all the little things like blocking, shepherding etc. Its hard maintaining that intensity. Unlike JVR for Jefferson the competitive intensity doesn't come easily. But much like Fritta I think he can build on this and become AFL standard for sure. He has quite a lot of versatility too which is great.

    I don't see being named emergency as a massive show of faith.

    I think chasing just about every potentially gettable key forward over the past couple of years including guys like Waterman, who would have cost a decent amount, gives me the vibe we don't think Jefferson is going to be much of a mainstay.

    I just think they see him as long term project player, I can see him sitting on our list for a while and playing a small amount of games over the next two years . I’m okay with that too.

    fwiw Jed Busslinger is on a similar path at the dogs

    Check out Jeffo's Rookie me September power ranking and comments in his draft year.

    Described as a good KP but skinny.

    He was always going to take 2 or 3 seasons before getting get a game and that is the path the club chose.

    Some expectations in these threads have been way over the top.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
