24 in 23 and 18 in 24 ain't bad, it could be better and hopefully it will be better this year. To say he's not in the best 23 by round 1 this year is just plain stupid.

He's a good little player to say that Brown or Woewodin should take his place is dumb they ain't forwards Moniz maybe but he's making his way as a half back ATM so I say keep him there. The way Salem has played the last few years and the way Bowey played last year he has more chance getting in front of them than getting ahead of Chandler.

I don't see where the hatred has come from? He is a more certain starter in the 23 than your love child Jefferson. Jefferson gives me Weid vibes. Weid was good in the VFL just couldn't handle the expectations at AFL level.

Um hatred?? Um no just pionting out what he doesn't do! Unless you dont believe that forwards need to kick goals to justify a spot in the team! Sorry but that to me is MANDATORY! 18 doesn't cut it!

I think you are confusing most goals and best.

Don't get me wrong, Fritter is a gun.

But even at his best I have koz and JVR ahead of Friitter in terms of ability.

And he was miles from his best last season.

Sure he once again topped our goal kicking list, but his effort and intensity was sub par as evidenced by his polling in the bluey.

Barely missed a game, kicked most goals but still couldn't crack the top 10 - unlike three other forwards in nibbla (3rd), koz (4th) and Chandler (8th).

Fritter looks very motivated this preseason, so signs are positive he'll pull his finger out.

But if he doesn't there's every chance he'll be dropped.

Frittata goal kicking record speaks volumes despite a poor (by his standards) year in 2024.

Im interested who you think would take his spot if dropped?

He was one of the few who had surgery post 2024. It may explain a few things.

Chandler came 8th in the Bluey yet you’d prefer to hang your hat on a untried hunchback with questionable attack on the ball…..got it!

8th in a team that finished 14th yer well, if that floats ya boat!

Well let's not over egg the pudding on the goal kicking front.

Sure he topped our goal kicking list, but he only kicked 41 goals.

Who would take his spot if dropped?

Well for a start Langford, who is 3cms taller than Fritter, will likely be a forward mid.

So Fritta has got one more medium forward to compete with next season - two if you count AJ.

Melk is a medium option as is McAdam if he comes good.

Again, Fritter is a gun. Love him.

But if his intensity is not AFL standard he'll find himself out of the team.

I am confused how you can have Lindsay in the side when he has been in rehab pretty much all preseason so far and if I understand comments wont join full training til end of January.

What do you base this on?

Unrelated, I love Melksham and think he will offer fantastic depth and assist player development but if he is in the side more than a handful of times this year (even as sub) our list has not developed and I doubt we are playing finals. We must start to see up and coming players pass him by,

He'll be right by the end of March plenty of time. You underrate Melksham crafty little player.

A late withdrawal from the team means an unexpected last minute debut.

It’s nothing to do with where the team finished and everything to do with his standing in the team.

41 goals is not something to be sneezed at particularly when playing in a team that is poor moving/transitioning the ball fwd and without it’s A grade midfielders. 200 goals over 4 seasons is elite for goal kicking.

None of the playing group mentioned will have the same impact as Fritta, and I am not talking just about goal kicking. Oppositions place their best backman on him due to his scoring impact and ability take the game away.

Love the man, but at least understand the deficits placed on him with the game plan, lack of viable support up fwd, and not being allowed to be HFF he is. He is not a KPF.

Too much expectation on the guy, then perceived supporter disappointment is being placed on him. IMO.

IMO his intensity dropped to a level that is not sustainable, as evidenced by his tackle numbers:

Does this take in consideration oa knee injury and lack of mobility in 2024. How does that match up with other mid forwards in the game? Being played as a KPF when physically suited to a HFF role?

Kozzie and JVR are different types of fwds therefore they are not 100% comparable. How does all Fritta’s stats compare to similar fwds in the AFL. Including goals per game?

Stats are great, but need to be used appropriately, and in comparison to similar types of player. Not with a small fwd who is elite defensively and an athletic beast, and a crash and bash KPF in JVR.

Stats are a useful resource, but are flawed at the same time. Every expert in The game talks about natural ability to read the game. How do you stat a tagger vs a natural ball getting midfielder. Who has more talent to read the play and get the ball? Who has more impact using their strength?

Stats are great to prove a point, but they don’t prove a point as AFL is different beast of a game. Too many variables as evidence with the interpretation, umpiring and adjudicating the game.

Getting back to the point, there is no way Fritta gets dropped in 2025 if his output is 41 goals for the year. I suspect it will be more as last year was a poor year by his standards. He is more a 50 goal a year forward if you average out those stats.

I don’t think Fritta was ever right last year, physically or mentally.

Hopefully this year he is back to his best.

An issue with Fritsch is that he is really only valuable as the deepest forward. He is not a great kick inside 50, is one sided and lacks the effort when the ball hits the deck. This means that he can be a liability up the ground and we need to structure our forward line with him close to goal.

You need to ban yourself for a week to have a think about it! By all means say what u like about me but leave personal attacks on our players out of it!

I think Binman has the best opinion on Fritta. He is irreplaceable in our forward line and an extra 20 goals to 60 would be priceless for our forward line.
in fact all our forwards plus new recruits XL Langford and AJ plus Sharp can all add to our flexibility and goals to make up the necessary points up to 90 plus for a Finals team.

I would hate for Fat Tony to summarise the weaknesses of all our forwards based on his summary of Fritta.

Last season was his worst really so I have full confidence he will be back in his best with support from new players and existing alike to ensure we get back to a confidence that will ensure a forward line with many options for the crest of the competition to fear.

I see Fritta's position coming under threat if Melksham is banging down the door and McAdam gets on the park and plays with intensity that Fritta sometimes lacks.

It's a bit sad to compare McAdam and fritta's intensity. I do hope Fritta comes out all guns blazing.

...the AFL players that are not one sided would make a very short list.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
