Do you really know anything about Wade ?

Others that are posting seem to have some knowledge and are relatively keen.

I’d back them rather than your off handed comment.

Most people are are just reading what is written and have never seen him play.   He will be playing at Casey not in the red and blue.

194cm... so he’s ruck depth?

No

Forward and Back depth

He can play

If he can smash a pack playing as a key forward and can ruck the F50, he’s worth a swing. Maybe add some physicality and tackling too.

The reality is that we need JVR freed up to become a true key forward. The club is looking for ways to do this.

That still our Club btw.  But you recruit for AFL not VFL really.
I believe Derkson sounds ready to step up and like the style of GWS recruits. So YES from me.

You're right - GWS list him as 194 cm - earlier reports had him at 197 cm. Lost an inch somewhere along the way. 🙂

Moving to western suburbs of Sydney will do that to you.

GWS has him on their website as 194cm but in the accompanying blurb he is 197cm so go figure....

The GIANTS added athletic key forward Wade Derksen to their list in the 2022 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft. Plucked out of the WAFL by the GIANTS in the middle of the year on the back of an eye-catching 22-disposal, four-goal, seven-mark performance for the Peel Thunder, Derksen is a latecomer to the game after starting off playing rugby. Standing at 197cm, Derksen was previously part of Essendon’s VFL program before playing with Nightcliff in the Northern Territory. Derksen showed strong form for the GIANTS at VFL level in 2023, finishing as the side’s leading goalkicker for the season with 35 majors from 18 games. He was rewarded with a two-year contract extension which will see him in orange and charcoal until the end of 2025.

Nah WAFL had given him extra cms for his draft stock

Was actually only 185cm at 18s

He's the same height as Hogan and Harry Himmelberg so 194-195cm

I feel we need to get to the bottom (or is it the top?) of this!

Maybe they took these measurements both with and without footy boots on

I'm just going by lots of photos of him standing next to and being the same height as Harry and Hogan.

I always find this so funny in other sports when they do the bare feet measurements. Its so silly. Unless players play in barefeet its a stupid exercise IMO.

Do they go as far to measure with studs on? On grass or hard surface? If on grass wet or dry day?.. Would make quite a difference I'd say 🙃

Hopefully they can combine well to Dutch-oven defence opposition into a spell. Metaphorically speaking *ahem*

Is Snake  Plissken available?

The good thing out of this is we are building a group of youngish talls with potential that we have previously lacked. Petty 197cm, Fullarton 200cm, Verrall 200cm, Adams 196cm, Jefferson 196cm, van Rooyen 194cm, Turner 194cm, Kentfield 194cm, Derksen 194? Maybe. This group have the potential to grow together and cover all KPF and KPB positions at VFL/AFL level given we have Max, May, Lever & TMac as our 4 tall leaders. We desperately need a mature tall to fill in for Max in an emergency.

Derk has twins already. get him to 100 games and enjoy the fruits of his labour

Whilst not disagreeing, how many of these are actually any good? Or good enough for us to challenge for premierships?

That is the burning question Dee Boys, we know that three of them are on the rise, we need another three to show their worth next year and the other three to be ready to roll in ‘26. It all comes down to development, we need to snag a great forward & ruck coach asap. We do not want to waste these youngsters.😁

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
