I am disappointed not getting Wade, not that I know anything about him, other than his age and height and 0 games so far, but rather for the simple fact that TL and JT wanted him and I trust their judgment.

If they wanted him it it was for a reason.

The fact that he is probably the lowest player on the totem pole of players seeking a trade and yet couldn't get traded is baffling, when you consider he hasn't played a game in his first 2 years as a mature age recruit and is now 11th in line for the role he plays.

Someone used Jeffo as a comparison but he was a high draft pick and was taken at 18 and these players are given more time to develop.

Can anyone here see him playing ahead of a fit Hogan, Cadman, Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg, Riccardi, Gruzewski, Brown, Aleer, O'Keefe and now Stringer.

He asked to be traded for more opportunity and a better contract, to look after his wife and 3 kids. GWS said no. We let a Premiership player who was 3rd in the B and F go home for compassionate reasons.

We are not talking about Taylor or Cadman for example.

I hope his Manager remembers this and if Wade doesn't get a game next year, hopefully he gives it to McCartney.

You could end up spot on and both Derksen and Jefferson will have long and successful careers. All I’m saying is that the odds are against Derksen and I don’t see it in Jefferson. Really never made an error of judgement?  How about listing a few more wisdom statements ?

Do you don’t  think  we should have given ANB a clearance to go home? After all his decade of service and team orientation towards our success etc.

O’Keefe is a very ordinary player and it’s not fair comparing say Hogan with Wade. He is staring his career and needs opportunities which it looks like he won’t get.

They just refused because they had already lost better players to make a stand. Very hard on Wade hope he doesn’t give up.

And I agree with him.

I think Jeffo can make it despite what an assistant coach said.

He should be ready to go this season.

PS: I can't say much about Adams, but I am a Verrall fan and think he will make it as well.

We can assess at the end of 25.

I'm not sold on Jefferson and I'm not writing him off entirely either. Just thought it was funny given how picket ****cans certain players and then hitches his wagon to some other strange choices.

Read my post again.

I never said we shouldn't trade ANB.

If O'Keefe is such an ordinary player, it shows what Giants thought of Wade, as O;'Keefe played games and Wade didn't.

I didn't compare Wade with Hogan.

I said that there were probably 11 players who play his role/position, that he is clearly behind and on that basis, having been there 2 years as a mature aged player, without playing a single game and having a good reason to want to leave, unlike us with ANB, they refused to assist him.

So you are having a bit each way on Jeffo, not sold on him, but also not writing him off entirely. So you will be correct whatever happens with him. That is fine and it is also fine for Picket to have his opinion on players. I won't defend him because he is a big boy and can do that himself, if needed.

I recall plenty on DL wanting McVee and JJ delisted, when they hadn't played a game and those same people are probably fans of both now.

We all have favourites and some make it and others don't, but I don't know what you mean about the other strange choices you suggest he has hitched his wagon to, which players were they?

I personally would have liked to get Kennedy, a big bodied mid who can also score when forward, but obviously our FD don't agree with me. I think with Tracc and Clarry getting over injuries, we are light on for good quick mids and if we don't take two more in the draft, who can play early, it could be a problem if injuries strike again.

I don't know if this has been  mentioned at all, but it looks like Wade might get a game after all in the first month of the 2025 season.

With all these potential suspensions to be handed out for Wacky Wednesday, this could be the reason BWS didn't want to release him.

Greedy prix.

I wonder if we decide to keep Adam Tomlinson now that we missed out on Wade Derksen?

At least we know what we are going to get with Adam Tomlinson who is a reliable (but slow) defender.

The reason I'm fence sitting is it's foolish without all the facts to write off players, and as you rightly point out, some players like McVee and co take time. Countless others. Max, Nev Jetta are others I got wrong, at least I couldn't see them as the players they became.

The other variable is talls take longer.

But the foolish, knee jerk side of me would say he won't be good enough for AFL level.

Let's see what he looks like at the level next year though.

Jefferson is a strange enough one to hitch your wagon too. Blind Freddy could tell Oliver was going to be a star from his very first game, so being a Clarry Choo Choo subscriber doesn't hold much water.

I was thinking the only hold up was GWS getting Stringer.

Not sure how Derksen gets a game now.

This is a really frustrating outcome. We had a need for Wade - who hasn't played a senior game yet, and wanted to come home to his family.

We correctly let ANB (as a required player and within contract) go. GWS held onto Wade for no valid reason.

Probably speaks more to their culture than ours - wonder if that will be examined.

I think it’s being examined right now.

Jeffo will probably have to step up this year, or his list spot will be in jeopardy.

Even tall players who may take longer to develop only get a limited time on a list if they are not showing something.

I think Jeffo will get some chances this year.

Yes, with respect to the other stuff. But given the microscopic level scrutiny we have received with everything, I hope this is bundled together with the other issues.

It should be noted Wade Dersken wasn't involved with the "Whacky Wednesday" antics.

Probably another reason  he wanted to leave GWS!

Just a shame it never worked out during this year's trade period.

I’d imagine we won’t be be bending over backwards to assist GWS if they want another Toby Bedford from us.

They turned a pick in the 40’s into a very nice player, and didn’t particularly repay the goodwill 2 years later.

I think you’ll find we bend over whichever way is requested for almost everyone. I was stunned we had the intestinal fortitude to say no to Geelong for Clarry.

So we let ANB go for family reasons and our culture is apparently [censored] house.
GWS hold onto Derksen for SWF even though he wants to move for family reasons. What a [censored] joke GWS are. PATHETIC CLUB AND CULTURE.

GWS CAN GAGF for any future trades.

Thanks Redleg maybe it was someone else that intimated we shouldn’t have given ANB  his wishes. But the fact that you listed 11 players that GWS have above Wade in their pecking order is wrong for them to refuse on the grounds heasked for a clearance to us.

The reason I suggested that Wade was a 2 and half year player he was similar time of 2 seasons to Jeffo and he is near to getting his chance. I done subscribe yo the time principal but to treat each player on their own development and progress. And that is comparable to Jeffo in their journey. I also have no real idea on who Wade would replace to come into our AFL team but he rucks plays defence and forward so is versatile and well credentialed to opportunity.  Jeffo probably only forward but a half forward flank could suit him early and go to a KFP in the future as necessary or planned at our time.

I hope Wade keeps asking for a move now next trade period.

I guess the question is if Wade still can’t crack it for a game in the seniors and his form in the 2s is just ok will we still have interest?

Yes a lot can happen in  1 season.

I wonder if person has a case for unsafe culture at the giants post breakup party and demands a contract release?

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
