Hunter was a smart pickup - allowed us to move Brayshaw on-ball and he was more than handy in his first season. Combination of the arrival of Windsor, injury and age haven't helped him this year, but it wasn't the worst trade by a long shot.

My issue with Hunter is that heโ€™s contributed nothing positive to our culture. In fact, quite the opposite. Was not worth it IMHO.

thank you. That was my point too!

Jay Clark on triple M yesterday stated that Caleb Daniel is a "massive chance" to be at the Dees next year.

I'd take the punt tbh

At the same time, it pushed Jordon out of the wing spot, which probably contributed to him leaving. Hunter also has had issues with professionalism, and i don't think it has helped his injury profile this year. Seemed pretty checked out this year.ย

Hunter was a terrible short-sighted pick-up, as Caleb Daniel would be.

He was. Unless he's really fallen off a cliff, Daniel is a far better footballer, but I'm not sure about his age.ย

Is the idea that as long as we have Oliver, Viney, Petracca, May and Gawn, we're in the flag window and so somehow duty bound to top up with 28 year olds?ย

Rightly or wrongly, yes, that's exactly what they'll be doing

On the plus side, we took two first rounders to the draft last year, and will take pick 5 this year, feels like we'll have a solid group of youngsters bubbling away. I'd rather take a punt on cheaper options like Daniel, rather than spend first round pick(s) on Houston that's for sure.

Dogs handball us another one and laugh whilst we think weโ€™re clever.ย

Hunter effectively pushed Jordon out of the side.......That's aged well :(

Daniel is so done.....please no

Why waste a pick on Daniel?

Lamb and Richardson need to go, pronto

Good player who has been bevo'd. If we brought in no established players people would whinge too. At least he'll be cheapish.

Surely we wonโ€™t waste the mid 20โ€™s ANB compensation pick on him? Youโ€™ll get a seriously good player with pick 25 in this years draftย

The same Dogs list management team brought in Oskar Baker and James Harmes, I don't think they have all the answers personally.

Swans' pick 38 probs

caleb daniel is reportedly on a heavily back-ended deal, $700-750k a year for the next two seasons

his best position is as a running small defender who, well, doesn't defend that well cos he's so small

i struggle to see how we can play bowey and daniel in the same side unless one of them changes roles

Just play the one of the two that actually finds the ball

Me too. Houston seemed like a really bad idea to me.ย Especially in this draft brimming with out-and-out onballers.

I'm not sure how solid our under 22s are, though. Windsor looks excellent. McVee is really good. I think everyone is hopeful rather than certain about Jefferson. I'd rather bolster this area of the list than get another 28 year old "maybe" player.ย

Agree, Daniel is a good player but he's not quick. Daniel and Bowey in the same zone defence would be vulnerable.ย

I did like it when he was on the Wizard briefly on Friday night - as someone said - both hoping for a contested marking opportunity.

You're taking the [censored] if you're including Daniel's sub effected 2024 stats

as opposed to those that bowey was subbed out of?

my point stands - to my eye they play similar roles and having similar statistical outputs

we don't need two of them, and certainly not a significant wage as a 29 and 30 year old

ย

NO NO NOย

HES SMALL AND SLOWย

has lost his paceย

he can kick the footy but only over short distancesย

definitely NO NO NOย

donโ€™t take another salary dump player for farrrrk sake !!!ย

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
