So if my plane leaves at 12am is that the same as the year 2000? Asking for a friend.

What’s stopping us from offering one of their players a mammoth deal? It can be unsettling for the team but with the pending increase in the salary cap can also be justified for the right player. But as we’ve seen in recent years mega deals aren’t always enough, just look at North’s many failed attempts to land top end talent. We must get back to being a stable club off the field and back to being a dominant force on it.

Darcy’s on stupid money. Personally beyond Gawn I think we look at average rucks from around the league and put the money into another midfielder. We got lucky with Gawn s and we ain’t likely to replicate it. If Koz goes we want the equivalent of 2 top 10 picks. It’s why a deal can’t get done.

That's what we said about Jackson.  Clubs don't walk away from trades if the player wants to go.

Best to recruit Jacko and his Mum back.

Sorry for this stupid post but let’s be serious let’s get Tracy or Serong or Andrew Brayshaw or two of them for Kossie if he ever goes to Freo.

Haha let's be serious followed but both Brayshaw and Tracy for Kossie

It would be very interesting if Freo didn’t make it out of the first round of finals. Would he still want to go? Would others be open to move out?

They finished 10th last season, yes they had some injuries but so did most teams. They picked up Bolton who is an enigma, on his his day he can gather 25+ touches and kick 2-3 goals but he can also go missing for large parts of games when the going gets tough.

Your arithmetic is faulty.

When 1 BC ended, 1 AD commenced.  There is no year zero.  How could there be?

According to the AFL your arithmetic is wrong. How else could we get a Round Zero

Freo will only give us draft picks. No chance we’ll be getting a Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong or Young as Freo will want to improve their list rather than going sideways.

This is a really a dumb statement...

Do you think we really want to let Kozzie go?

What is it with our supporters...think one of our contracted players will go but for some reason think we can't get one back.

Of course they want to improve their list, what we don't.

Our job is not to help them get a better list, it's about ours and if they really want Kozzie then they are going to have to give up something really good to get him.

I give up...

Evidence suggests it is rare that we would be getting a great player back in a trade where Kossie signals he wants to depart… it’s not just freo we have to convince, we also have to find a great player that wants to come to us, which is hard because their playing group  would believe they are on the rise and us on the fall.

It’s a not a dumb statement in the slightest because when was the last time a gun player was traded in return for a gun player:

Dangerfield Bolton Rankine Barrass J Cameron Taranto and Hopper L Jackson Horne-Francis the list goes on and on.

Technically Port got Lukiousos in for Houston but that was a very convoluted trade

I get that you want top value by way of a player in return but a club in contention will not be willing to give up one of their established players. Then the ball is in our court on whether we accept unders. We probably would if his future is untenable here.

The point is that we're still in contention.

Why would we be willing to give up one of our established players?

My concern is that he’d be so desperate to leave later in the year that we’ll have no choice but to trade him for unders.

Hopefully it won’t get to that.

Dangerfield was a free agent but Geelong softened the blow. Bolton, the tiges wanted picks, Rankine was on the GC roundabout, who cares...Cameron a free agent, Taranto and hopper work middle of the road and got it...Jackson, an interesting one but we came out ok in the end, Barrass WC didn't seem interested to keep more wanting picks, HF, well it didn't matter much to North, they weren't in contention and picks were good enough on a list build...

Ok, that’s fair.

Now point out to me examples of trades where clubs lost a quality player and received a quality player in return.

Where we differ in opinion is that you think it’s fair and just that a gun player like a Young or Brayshaw should come back our way for Kozzie. My contention is that there has been no recent precedence where a gun player was traded for a gun player, and it would therefore be extremely unlikely to occur in a prospective trade between Freo and Melbourne.

If he's desperately homesick then we need to play the how homesick are you card and invite WC to the party...

You're probably right but there have been murmurs about Brayshaw plus Darcy will probably be usurped by Jackson or visa versa so there may be room to move there.

edit: it's a big season for both clubs. If they fail again then the glue won't be so strong to bind the team, players will look to move. If we do then it's rebuild time for us.

That I agree on for sure.

The “I’m so desperate to get back home to WA, but I’ll only accept a trade to Freo” is a blight on our game.

Let's say you are correct and by playing hard ball we are forced receive unders.

We will receive that in 2027 as if we keep koz to his contract he has to play in 2025 and 2026.

We have the whip hand. If he wsa tin the final year of his contrat this year it would be a differn scario. But he's not.

If koz wants to get to another club in 2026 that club will have to come to the table with some decent capital.

The threat of not getting much in return at the end of the 2026 season is a pretty empty one given all that can play out in two years (i'll bet Lachie Neale is happy he stuck fat with the the lions).

I am missing something here. The club held Petty, Trac and Clayton (?) requests for a trade because they were under contract. It was really cool of the club to do that and doesnt Kozz have 3 more years? Thats why we give big contracts isnt it? Surely we tow the same line and presedent which is more than fair enough. Like Trac last year under stress (love the man!)  Kozzzie prob hasnt got his head around the contract situation in full.

Jackson was not under contract and I have no idea what the neale bulleen situation was but I got the "dont ask, just trust us its for family reasons" vibe from the club for that one.

Kozzie, whethere likes it or not is a well looked after jewel for the club and there is no way they will just roll over. Not any more.

Just my opinion, but i think when we let ANB get to Adelaide, that must have triggered something in Kozzy. He's always wanted to go back home, there is no doubting that.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
