We have culture?

Sorry mate but thatโ€™s the same rationale that stopped us drafting Dusty.

We drafted Clarry and Trac and are now imploding, but I guess you're right. The leadership needs to be better next time.

Great more problems. I'm trying to run a business here which is that business of my own sanity on a weekend and these things are like inconvenient employees coming to me with problems.

I have problems of my own.

To me, it Speaks volumes about the way the club has/is being run.

You do realize that Richmond players have done the same and their club gave them even more than what we did.?

Mate. Get Reid back to any Victorian club with any semblance of senior players worth a pinch of [censored]. Theyโ€™d have his head pulled in and playing properly.

West Coast are Melb of 2007-2013 right now and they have 2 more years until they hit 2013!

Very fair. And the fish bowl probably doesn't help.

Itโ€™s going to take a really good couple of years before players start considering us for trades.

This. Can't be emphasised enough. And if we sack the coach it'll become even more true.

Not having a CEO isn't helping either.

Itโ€™ll take a very strong club to get the best out him. i donโ€™t think heโ€™ll make it tbh.

Anyone on this forum ever played in a team that lost more than five games in a row. I have and you got dirtier and dirtier every game. I coached a school team that hadn't won a game for nearly two years. They had it but it just wasn't happening. Eventually when they all realised that they were good , they satisfied themselves and went in different directions in life.

exactly complete [censored], focuses more on getting in fights and giving [censored] to the crowd instead of actually playing footy

If Goodwin goes (one way or another) Pickett will be next out the door.

And won't be alone I imagine.

Yep. Wouldnโ€™t want to rock the boat too much. If you thought 0-5 was bad, imagine how bad it would be without Goody!!

With Kozzy out the door at season's end guys, the old question arises a la LJ in 2022 whose body was on the field but heart & mind wasn't...

Should we be getting games into the likes of Brown (he's ready now) and Culley (if he hits some serious form / fitness at Casey at some point) from here on in instead?

Well, I can tell you there are plenty of players who weโ€™ve approached in recent times only to be rebuffed due to our style of play amongst other reasons.

Kozzy himself was unhappy with our style of play. His end of season review in 22 or 23, made that very clear.

Another is a Coleman Medalist who was worried about how we move the ball forward.

Sacking the coach might have the opposite effect to what you suggest.

Now not having a CEO is a different story, we donโ€™t look appealing to agents, hence they advise their clients accordingly.

Itโ€™s be traded to the Eagles or stay.

Harry McKay?

Im not a fan of him regardless.

So we get Freoโ€™s first pick this year and next, both potentially mid to late teens for arguably our best player. Sounds fairโ€ฆ.

If he wants to go west then to the highest bidder it shall be.

He's contractrd and we are in ABSOLUTELY no position to sell ourselves short!

If itโ€™s freo im demanding Murphy Reid and a pick.

Maybe, but had we kicked straight in 2023, it could be a very different story.

Playing our old method, minus Trac and half fit Clarry, we lost to Port by 2 points (prelim finalist), GWS by 2 points (semi finalist) and by 5 points against the eventual Premiers in Brisbane after a soft free was paid to hand them the winning goal.

Put Trac back in that team, a fitter Oliver (apparently not), allow our guys to play the contest game they've honed; add the ball use from Langford, Lindsay, Windsor and McVee; and exploit the greater pace on the list from Lindsay, Windsor and Kolt, and away we go.

This is why I was buoyant going in 2025. I thought we'd play essentially the same game style with a greater emphasis on being able to score off turnover.

We've gone away from this trying to play something that has clearly killed the instincts of the players, to the point where there is no identifiable brand or game style on display now and the players appear confused.

We should return to contest, stoppage and defence. We should even consider playing a hybrid of the territory game.

The next evolution of the game will be defensive and that is what we've built our success on and built our list for.

There is a reason why Adelaide and Hawthorn won't truly contend- they can be scored heavily against too easily. It won't hold up in finals.

But even if we go back to those fundamentals as you say, we are still horrid moving the ball forward. It wasn't just inaccuracy that killed us in 2023. We went forward against the Pies about 60 times and kept kicking it down Sidebottom's throat. The same issue persists. We can defend like superstars. It won't make a difference.

We're terrible moving the ball partly because the players aren't on the same wave length.

In 2023 we didn't have Windsor, Lindsay, Langford or Kolt. All much better users of the footy than Viney, Oliver and Petracca.

Don't disagree entirely with what you're saying. But my point was that some of the players are very close to Goodwin (including Kozzie), and if Simon goes these players may see it as a time to move on as well.

During Collingwoodโ€™s last two wins against Carlton and Sydney they had a lot of very ordinary delivery inside their fwd 50 but it went in quick and went into an open fwd line to sone dangerous fwds ie Elliot / Hill / DeGoey in one on ones. The skill of their fwds turned ordinary delivery (sometimes for to opposition pressure, sometimes due to poor kicking) into goals because of their ability to beat their opponent and having space to work in.

GWS and Brisbane are the only teams Iโ€™d consider to have elite kicks arcoss all lines over the ground, GWS being the most balanced side in the competition.

Was Kosi not going last season if he could? At that point Goodwin was contracted for two more seasons.

I don't think retaining players that want to go is a good enough reason for keeping Goody. Why are they trying to leave?
