Was listening to triple M yesterday and Jay Clark and Damo Barrett stated the following

• Kate Roffey is the first of a few changes. One of those big changes is Gary Pert also being pushed out potentially.

• Steven Smith is pretty much in the box seat to be our next president. Will be going on a much needed holiday in the next couple of weeks after negotiating some pretty big business deals and may be announced in the back end of the year.

• Trac and Goodwin caught up at a Cafe in Armadale on Thursday and by all reports it was a positive one for both parties.

my suspicion is that pert will go some time into the 2025 season, not prior to it

i don't understand why smith would WANT to come on to the board and be president if he's that exhausted from his long legal career; will he be actually motivated to enact change or is he simply coming on as a last resort for the club?

i love the way these players / officials always meet in the same places; catching up at philippa's for a croissant is hardly out of the way - now if you'd told me that they shared a snag out at casey watching the aflw then i'd be genuinely shocked

Does Pert have a contract or is he ongoing?

Re smith, being a footy club president is an unpaid passion project. No where near comparable to a full-time high intensity profession.

I'd like a PJ review from top to bottom and Al Nicholson to become CEO. That'd be nice.

And this is how Mr Pert acts towards a member if you step out of line (from Lawrence's deposition in the recent Federal Court case):

On 22 November 2022 at 12:30pm, I met with Mr Pert for a coffee at his request.
During our meeting Mr Pert said words to the effect that:
(a) MFC had incurred costs of some $500,000 in the last two years as a result of
my actions in running in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 elections, and a separate
proceeding in the Supreme Court of Victoria (in which I successfully obtained
access to the register of members); and
(b) there would be many ripple effects if I continued to agitate governance issues,
such as player sponsorships (for example, my platinum sponsorship of Kade
Chandler) no longer being offered to me, and my donations (such as my
Club 11 donation for the development of Gosch’s Paddock) no longer being
accepted by MFC.

On or around 5 December 2022, I spoke to ....... who was coordinator of the
Inner Sanctum and Player Sponsors, over the telephone. ...... informed me
that I would not be offered the opportunity to renew my platinum player sponsorship
of Kade Chandler in 2023.

PJ sounds like the natural choice.

I do feel like Geoff Walsh has got good experience with reviews but that might be more footy department focussed?

I guess this is the prevailing attitude that keeps people like Pert in a job, while others scratch their heads.

Unsurprisingly sounds like bully tactics to drive the incumbents agenda & maintain the status quo, i.e. showing blatant disregard if not contempt for the best interests of the members.

Which is consistent with my own experience.

Don't believe it was disputed. Rennick gave evidence on behalf of the Club.

What a shocking waste of Money…

If the board/club acted like an organisation who had no alterior motive & nothing to hide, then the costs wouldn’t have been incurred.

I agree, there is Fault on both sides

That is a wage for extra staff in the Football Department

The whole thing stinks

Yep, clearly individuals putting themselves ahead of the club’s best interests.

Maybe it’s time to install Max as Pres, CEO, GM of Football, Coach & Captain

I get the feeling Pert is exaggerating a bit there. Why is he guilt tripping a member for running for election and putting the costs to the club on his head?

Just pointing out some corporate kpi's absolutely in Perts hidomain.

The broader issues in the club have many contributors.

Ever wondered why the Dee's doctor resigned during this year's pre season in November 2023.?

Being brilliant in her field ( just ask Steven May) she was snapped up elsewhere. Our huge loss.

Why? That's one for pert to have influence over I would have thought.

I think Brad Green will sponsor the review but an external consultant will be engaged to undertake the work and deliver a report.

It needs to be an independent external review or serious issues swept under the rug will re-appear in 2025. Count on it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
