Congratulations on the literal sh!ttest take of the season.

Agree 1000%. Contract is nost likely on less $$$$ to enable the club to go after free agents.

Absolutely bizarre extension.

Leadership is going year by year when you’re 32, not asking for a 3 year deal.

Zero faith in the Melbourne list management team.

Very shallow! Incapable of seeing the larger game that is in play!

*sigh* there’s always one. Even in a thread that can’t possibly be  considered bad in any way, there’s always that one person.

You know there are so many other ways to get the attention you so obviously crave.

The larger game is a 36 year old with 1000 injuries collecting a pay cheque like Ben Brown was this year.

It’s ok to just be patient with veterans and sign them when required.

If the club needed a sugar hit of a Gawn extension we are in big trouble.

Like join the happy clappers in the cheer squad and all clap along with each other?

My opinion is my opinion. There’s no need to have Gawn signed for 3 years.

So tell me the details of the contract extension?

Maybe he's taking a huge pay cut?

Nothing to do with the pun. I'm just OCD with the thread titles for Re-Signings.

You’re OCD with thread titles? Why, I’ve never noticed.

Unrelated: have you gotten over that time I put a rogue comma in a training thread title? Or six months isn’t long enough?

😘

So he will retire a 3 time premiership captain.

Do you know this to be true or just gossip?

Sauce?

Are you seriously ok?

Gawn with 1000 injuries (1000, really?) is the best goddamn ruckman in this game, by a very large margin too. He is currently ranked better than in any other year of his career.
He’s also a brilliant leader.

What the [censored] sort of idiotic take is this? You don’t think this man can contribute to our club for another 3 years? Both on field and off the field? Would he not be an amazing mentor to all the young guys coming thru, especially in the ruck?

[censored] go away!

Kalany White for starters 😉

The most influential Demon of my lifetime and pretty close to the best ever player - probably only Flower ahead of him.  The greatest ruckman of this century and the best since Simon Madden.  And still playing at an elite level. A tremendous leader as well.  Thanks for the show of faith Max!

Well done Gawny, and well done Georgie boy you are a gem ❤️💙

100%. The man is a legend and arguably the greatest ruckman in the game ever. That’s right, EVER. He will don his 7th AA jacket this year.

Just wish CP5 - Mr Petracca would like several of the recent mfc (GC game) and Gawny’s post - he’s obviously keeping a wide berth on the socials lately for unknown reasons. Unlike him really for someone who has been continually active on his insta.

He’s played injured in finals the last 2 years and there’d be doubts on him carrying this injury through real pressure games this year if needed.

His so called brilliant leadership doesn’t sound so crash at the moment either.

I expect he can play at least 2 more and every chance of 3, but unless there’s a huge discount in his 2025 wage I can’t see the upside here.

And time will tell but so far it’s hard to see where the cash will be required.

Gawn’s now got his. So Viney wants his too, when Jack might not up to the level in 26/27.

Maybe this is good, but I don’t see the amazing optimism to cheer for this like the rest of you lemmings.

He liked a post that Viney made earlier today.
But let’s not make this yet another thread about Petracca.

Exactly. But kudos the the club. The period is sensible for both parties.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
