He grew up inĀ SheppartonĀ before accepting a scholarship to attendĀ Scotch CollegeĀ inĀ Melbourne. He was drafted by Gold Coast with their third selection and ninth overall in theĀ 2016 national draft.

Brodie played 24 games for Gold Coast across 5 years as he struggled to get ahead of other younger midfielders. Ā Following theĀ 2021 AFL season, Brodie was traded toĀ Fremantle.

Brodie played every game of the 2022 season a career best and established himself as an important part of Fremantle's midfield. He finished the season eleventh in the league for total disposals tallying 607 across 22 games.Ā
Ā

In 2023 and 2024, despite dominating at WAFL competition, he had limited opportunities into the Freo AFL team with Young, Serong, Brayshaw and Omeara preferred. With Worner & Erasmus coming through, Brodie will likely be squeezed out. Ā

Brodie presents as the classic Moneyball trade pickup. Ā He will cost a ā€œfuture 5th roundā€ and be a reasonable salary contract. But he can step in and play immediately. At 189cms, he has the physical ability in the contest and skills to deliver. He has good contested possessions numbers all through his career. Definitely one to consider in the off season period. Ā

Ā

lock him in

we desperately need good midfielders

Assuming your history of him is correct.Ā
then being 5th or 6th string in freo sideĀ

getting a bit old, but would be cheap and should push to get a run with our lotĀ

plus he would only have a few years left so would want to make the most of his time left in the game. Ā  Well worth a chat.Ā
Certainly a good backup if not a fair bit more, IĀ

Ā

I’m of the mind we need to get players in who are either young and building form below great midfields or players who are playing in midfields. Over 28’s don’t grab me as I think we have enough of them.Ā

Begs the question... why has he had so much trouble breaking through elsewhere?

I thought it was his tank more than anything.

Would prefer Dev RobertsonĀ

We really have two list to improve. We are going to have to bring in a number of kids over the next two trade/draft windows. If we want them to develop well at Casey then we need to improve the standard of footy there.Ā
Dunstan wasn’t up to AFL standard but he was a bloody good VFL player and helped keep Casey up around top of the ladder.Ā
Given his numbers in WAFL at worst Brodie would improve Casey or he could take Sparrows spot in the first team and Sparrow improves Casey. For a low pick it’s a yes from me.Ā

Ā

the problem with will brodie and deven robertson and players like that is that they don't have an particular weapons or traits that make them a standout player

they're the harmes / dunstan type depth players at good sides for a reason, and i don't think they'll particularly stand out in poorer sides

i'd rather a ben keays type, which is ironic that anb is linked to the crom, as keays plays a very similar role to him there

If we had Ben Keays the club would need to employ a barber for him and Fritta

Drink!

I absolutely would, at worst he'd add some depth and help Casey be more competitive next year. His best footy is really solid.Ā

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven MayĀ

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
