there are usually 10+ quality players that move each trade period.

Woah. Who were the 10 quality players who moved last year? Grundy, maybe Lachie Schultz and then ... Jack Ginnivan? Mabior Chol? Ratugolea? Paddy Dow?

After a couple of marquee first rounders, often due to the go-home factor, it's pretty slim pickings and I don't see any of these players making a real change to a club or a list.

If we’d gone after Mabior Chol instead of Fullarton and McAdam last year we’d probably be in finals and Steven May’s ribs would be feeling far better. He’s a quality player.

Chol, Ginnivan and D'Ambrosio. Hawks did very well last trade period and gave up not much.

Or immaturity and the desire to gossip?

It's not even immaturity, everyone talks, it's the reasons spys and journos have jobs, 80% of the internet in Australia (one of humanities' greatest achievements) is dedicated to social networks, (would have thought something else). Expecting footballers and anyone around them to be a Mauna or monk undertaking a vow of silence is unlikely to say the least. Leaking, Gossip etc is always going to be there. That people here buy into it so quickly as definitive information, is Exhibit A in listing MFCSS as a clinical disease in the ICD. The evidence that the MFC is not a bin fire is not as exciting as the gossip, just read a training report and look at the sum total of all our games good and bad in the last 5 years and I say the thing that stands out is the collective endeavour, not the failures.

We've definitely had successes for sure! I guess though, clubs can have 'binfire' worthy issues but still be very successful. Probably the best example is, West Coast's issues by all accounts had been known since 2000, they almost won 2 flags in a row 5-6 years later when half the team were off their face and one even flatlined and was brought back in Las Vegas on a trip. Absolute Binfire worthy club, but super successful.

(This part isn't aimed at you DEE fence, but to any frothing at the mouth posters - No I'm not saying our issues and west coasts issues are analogous)

For the naysayers who mentioned it was all media noise, Jon Ralph reported on Fox that Petracca and his fiancé both personally approached other clubs to find a trade solution to get out of Melbourne in the last few weeks. They also exhaustively approached pro scouts etc to find a potential trade route. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Pretty effing bizarre if you ask me. Did they honestly expect it not to get out? Or that clubs would find a way to make it work? Super weird thing to do to your employer who you supposedly respect

So if that is true he did a Luke Ball and did everything he could to avoid playing for the dees (in his case again). If true that is pretty sad really.

I mean its kind of like we are a partner that has been cheated on, everyone knows what happened and yet we take the partner back with open arms. lol

Imagine the outrage if we’d traded to get Ginnivan with his history and then fell out of the top eight …

Ouch. Not really sure why the club want to retain him if that is true. Doesn't sound like someone who made this noise to try and better the club.

I would hope that behind closed doors we try pretty hard to convince him to give the Gold Coast or North Melbourne a shot if he hates Melbourne so much...or maybe even see if he'd void his contract and we let him go as a free agent. Take pick 6 and see if we can draft a character who'll keep 2 feet in the door from start to finish.

They are turning into an ugly couple. If this is true, the club should now get rid of him during this trade period and negotiate the best deal possible. This guy is not going to stick around after next year. If I were his manager, I would dump him. The club must be really [censored] off. Let another club spend time and resources getting him fit and well.

It is difficult to comprehend the dichotomy between what Ralphy is reporting and this statement by Christian:

"I make no apologies for wanting to better our club and contribute to our success both on and off the field".

There is something odd with Ralphie's statement. I mean could you imagine being the partner of an AFL star just cold calling player agents for legal advice? Seems a bit weird for mine and unlikely.

The same segment mentioned his frustration with other players not working hard enough or putting in the same amount of work as he does.

Be keen to work out who we all think falls into this category. Buckley’s comment mid year comes to mind around skin folds.

She is his commercial and brand manager since April, not just his partner. As people have mentioned his player manager advised against this course of action in terms of seeking a trade, they went ahead anyway.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
