I’m just wondering whether there’s a transcript of this interview available so that people can verify what is being attributed to Kate Roffey in the conversation?

An example is the blanket claim that she hasn’t spoken with Christian since he was injured on King’s Birthday. She does say during the interview that she hasn’t spoken to him on the specific subject of whether he wants to leave the club but she also says the following (at 9:21) -

“Any time. Christian is clear. I’ve said to him, any time he wants to talk to me, any time he wants me to come to a meeting (I’m) very happy to do so …”

That suggests that she has spoken with him at some time recently.

There are a number of other matters discussed in the interview that have been relayed in this thread and elsewhere that don’t seem to match what Roffey is saying and which leads to an incorrect interpretation of the conversation.

A full transcript might be helpful in this respect because I’m fearful that some conclusions being drawn both here and outside are not based on what she really said in the interview.

I wonder if one of the AFLW girls was in ICU. Would she wait 2-3 months to talk with the player and family?

This was my first thought this morning as i was listening live

Nearly choked on that first Cuppa….

The fact that we need a transcript to work out what she was saying, speaks to how poorly she was saying it.

I understand that public speaking and media is not for everyone, but it needs to be bread and butter for a president of football club.
She comes across as completely unprepared, as if she didn't think they would ask her 100 questions about Trac.

The role of a leader is to instil confidence. Did anyone walk away from this interview feeling confident about anything other than the fact that we have a lot of problems?

I'm seriously thinking about going.

By all means go, but you better be nice to Clarry.

Don't need Monday's headline to read "Oliver asks for a trade. Not happy with the direction the club's supporters are heading in".

So let me get this straight, the meeting at Gawn’s bar had someone from the public leak details and now this other casual drinks with players has been leaked. How dumb can you be?

The rustic Marion Wine Bar in Gertrude St, Fitzroy, was the scene for a peculiar little gathering of Melbourne players on Tuesday night.

Clearly, the players didn't seem to care - or they thought they couldn't be heard — by the table of serious football fans sitting at the next table.

The pleasant surprise seeing AFL players on a windy Tuesday night was one thing, their astonishment at what the players - clearly frustrated - were saying about Christian Petracca was another.

So much so, notes were taken.

Words such as "weird" were heard, and how Petracca's "weirdness" was accepted at Melbourne, but would not be accepted at another club.

Pretty close to a full/much of the transcript here:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/demons-president-admits-she-hasn-t-spoken-to-petracca-about-his-grievances-20240829-p5k6b4.html

As usual we don't know the full story (and shouldn't expect to). For example, if she hasn't spoken to him, it could be that others who have done so told her she shouldn't or no need for whatever reason.

Yes even if she made it clear later that she has been in regular contact it came across at the start the she had not

Or you know, it could just be people making up absolute [censored], going to the media, and the media is lapping it up.

From everything I've heard that the players are saying about Trac, "weird" is definitely not an adjective that's being used.

But hey, at least nobody set anything on fire.

Goes without saying though, players shouldn’t be discussing this in public. Hopefully they’re not that stupid.

Wasn't there another report of this meeting that Christian was there!  And there were hugs and handshakes all round.  It was reported the players understood his issues but they didn't know how to fix them ...

For sure and I would think they would have forked out for a private area anyway.

I had mixed feelings to this part of the interview.

From The Age:

Did you do enough during the two weeks following his horrific injury?

'.........So I’m not sure, again, as I say in the media, a lot of this rhetoric around not enough was done, we need to actually sit down and go, ‘What wasn’t done? What would you have liked to have been done? If we didn’t do enough, you know, we can work through that and apologise’. But I’m not entirely sure what the, I don’t believe it relates to medical care, is probably all I can comment on."

The beginning of her response to that question which you edited out I think is worth including, as it paints a clearer picture of the situation. It sounds like Petracca hasn't raised these particular gripes with the club, and there's only so much the club could have done at the time due to the private nature of healthcare. So she says the club needs to sit down and discuss the perceived shortcomings. If Petracca hasn't been willing to do so, then there's not much that can be done. She makes it clear elsewhere that she has indeed reached out to him, her door open.

Did you do enough during the two weeks following his horrific injury?

Roffey: I’ve read some bits and pieces about this in the media. I have no idea where that information came from. I’ve no idea what specifically that is referring to, so I won’t comment on the specifics. What I will say is that when you’re in intensive care, you can’t pop in and visit. You get one person who’s allowed to come in. In terms of the medical care, you go into the system as a patient of the Victorian health system. And so we’re not in direct contact with him for medical care at that point in time, that’s happening through his doctors. And so we have to find out further down the line what’s happening, what’s required of us, what we need to do.

It's beyond laughable. Petracca is a certainty to play for the Dee's next season . Happy to take on all wagers to the contrary.  Cue crickets.

I guess the thing I am most perplexed and upset with in all this, is who the hell is leaking all the inner workings of the clubs exit meetings etc to the press?

I left it out as I didn't think it was that relevant to what has most people dismayed ie the apparent lack of communication with the family while he was in ICU and its aftermath.

I mentioned in another post that I hope our doctors sought feedback from the hospital medicos just to be aware of what was happening.  If they did they would have known he almost died on the operating table and that should have been passed on to our player welfare staff and the Roffey.

As Andy Maher said, even if there are organisational processes in place a president is within their right to pick up the phone and say:  Here is my number, call me anytime.  Let me know if there is anything I can do.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
